I've done this without the pin in the past and truely appreciate what genius your central pin is. Thanks!

If you had left the glue a little longer there would have been no need to use sellotape, the sellotape made the tear more obvious when it pulled the fabric together, in the end it was better than it was to start with though.

After cueing the two side together l would fill the remaining gap with silicone and after heating with a blow dryer paint with appropriate colour paint. But you have applied the basic principle correctly. 👊🙂👌👍
@LeatherRepairUKАй бұрын
@@Thereisariver-y3b Thank you for your comment and suggestion! While using silicone and heat can sometimes be effective for certain types of repairs, this type of repair was to demonstrate how tears can be fixed without silicone and heat, ensuring long-lasting and professional results by using the correct glue and tools. We always appreciate feedback and are glad to hear that you found the principles we shared helpful! If you have any further thoughts or questions, feel free to share.

What about pre gluing the backing fabric and letting that dry off completely before fitting it into the tear? That way there’s probably less chance of smearing glue on the face. If it was me (messy, impatient) I’d probably protect the vinyl with masking tape during the glue up.

Just curious… Why wouldn’t you just use a vinyl upholstery repair kit to make the tear completely invisible?
@LeatherRepairUK28 күн бұрын
@@Delta4N6 this is about fixing a tear in vinyl, rather than making this a repair where we applied grain also to make the repair as close to invisible as possible. But that is an option for those that wish to take things that step further definitely

Great video - exactly what I needed. I have a small tear just like this on the side of a vintage car seat (Morris minor vinyl) that I want to repair. Can I ask what the backing material that you used is? Is it just another piece of vinyl or something else?

A better way i think, is to use a two part adhesive that you apply to the underside of the vinyl, and to the material you're going to place under the split. Wait for the adhesive on both the vinyl, and the material to dry, which takes about 5 minutes, then place the material under the split, and using a Tefalon sheet, gently heat the area using an iron. The heat will reactivate the glue, and set within 20 seconds. A very strong and quick repair, and if you do it right, there's virtually no sign of the split/repair.

@@trytellingthetruth.2068 there are so many different methods you can use. But when the clients states what they want we deliver what they want. The client is king, if the client is requesting something that isn’t achievable then we will advise them if this. We could even go one further and spray on grain if this client wanted that.

I just stitch stuff up and use super glue.
@agn85528 күн бұрын
Unfortunately super glue is hardening instead of staying flexible. Later on it will start cracking under pressure loosing its ability to keep both parts together.
