The series takes itself pretty seriously on the tattoos since they're so integral to Yakuza culture. They even got a real traditional tebori artist to help with the designs. Kuze's tattoo is of Enma, the king of Hell. On his left and right arms he has Gozu and Mezu, Horse-face and Ox-face, two guardians of the underworld.

Based entirely on how handily you handled Kuze, you may enjoy playing it on Hard mode--biggest differences is enemies hit slightly harder, and the game doesn't just give you healing items laying around. You'll have to manually stock up on healing items. It's a *good* Hard mode, and it makes the boss fights even more satisfying. If you want to test it out before deciding, try loading up just before you go to Dojima Family HQ to get expelled and run that whole gauntlet again, on Hard mode.

And it's also enjoyable to watch all of it, so don't worry if you go on a personal quest to play every arcade game you come across, or want to become Kamurochos greatest dance queen, karaoke master or pocket circuit champion.

You know, how these Yakuza groups function is really confusing (and the translation can be unclear at times, especially in Y1 and Y2). So let's spell it out: The Tojo clan is the biggest Yakuza group in Eastern Japan. It's essentially an alliance of dozens of other Yakuza clans. The Dojima Family is one of it's biggest, and is also an alliance of several clans. Sohei Dojima is the Patriarch, and the actual leader. Kazama is the Captain, the patriarchs "eldest son", who will inherit control of the family. There may be advisors (or "Lieutenant Advisors"), who are also highly placed, but not in line to be the Patriarch. Then the head of the HQ, who is a Lieutenant who runs the home base. Then there are the Lieutenants - Kuze, etc - who answer to the Captain. And then the bottom level guys. Each of the Captain and Lieutenants, at least in this case, have their own little family, and their own lieutenants. And because the current Captain is in prison, all the lieutenants are trying to get promoted as the Patriarch's new favorite.

@chukm7128 That seems to be the popular opinion, and I vehemently disagree. I have never seen a game be so successful in serving as a complete and respectful celebration of the franchise. It's a story that's only really hard-hitting for people that played all the main games (and gaiden) and understands Kiryu's character well enough. It didn't get anywhere near "too crazy", 4, 5 and arguably even 2 and 3 and way crazier.
@chukm71284 күн бұрын
@@yanribeiro7108 2 is crazy because of sengoku’s weird castle. Y8 was crazy to me because of the fact a bunch of hawaiians are fluent in japanese, and they’re fighting an evil priest who wants to kill a kid… and then the whole thing about Ebina being a half brother was just a write-on. Also The guy in the chinese mafia got so hyped, only to fumble a few hours later. If Y8 did something well, it was the plot twists, definitely that.

57:25 Yakuza games always deliver on the dialogue and story, but I feel like their gameplay is incredibly drawn out. It’s like the devs have some sort of competition about cramming in as much goofy side content as possible. It’s kind of amusing and fun for a bit, but it reaches a point when you’re tired of it all and would prefer to just watch a series of movies than to play through each game.
@tinnie754 күн бұрын
I like that it gives you the option to spend 100 hours on the goofy stuff but also to just power through the main story. Because sometimes I'm so gripped by the main story that I don't care for anything else. Other days I just want the silly substories and singing karaoke. Especially if I don't have the time to get locked into a long fight sequence and a bunch of 20 minute cut scenes.
