Whoever says "Ew" to Tales of Ba Sing Se or calls it a filler should honestly rethink what makes the show so great. It's the world building and the character development. Tales of Ba Sing Se was a perfect episode to showcase just that, which is why this episode, which many call "filler", is considered to be one of the best episodes by some people. It also just adds so much atmosphere to Ba Sing Se and the entirety of Book 2.
@tobiasfletcher53456 жыл бұрын
@@TimoKanal I think that at the start you would think of it as a filler before watching it, but then realize while it has not been much to do with the main plot, it was great character development and an amazing episode
@darthrevan47485 жыл бұрын
@Timo Tales of Ba Sing Se is filler. It doesn't advance the main plot. That doesn't change the fact that it's one of the best episodes in the series, of course, nor that it really deepens your understanding of the characters, but the definition is correct.

this is so beautiful! bravo. I found Iroh and Zuko's arc one of the best written, most subtly beautiful things ever shown on any TV show. Iroh was such a complex character. Seeing through the wrongs of his people and sympathising with the peoples of the world after paying the ultimate price. Zuko growing as a person and accepting Iroh as the father he never had. Iroh accepting Zuko as the son he lost. It is just so much beauty. I cried so much in the scene when Iroh forgives Zuko. I'm crying so hard now. This is just too much!

my first reaction to the tales of ba sing se was: really? a filler episode? then as it played, I realized that while, yes it IS technically filler, we get to see so much of the charecter's thoughts and emotions. then the last one.... well. is the most amazing, sad tearjerking scene that I have ever seen. The movie called grave of the fireflies (by ghibri, btw can you believe that they took insperation from ghibri films AND cowboy bebop for AtLA?!) took the whole movie to make me burst into tears, this managed to do that in TWO MINUETES.

A filler episode isn't really a filler episode if it has something integral to the storytelling of the show. And it doesn't have to have a plot advancement to be an integral episode, either; it can just be a small character moment, like this one, that makes all the difference.

Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile, tiny shells Drifting in the foam. Little soldier boy Comes marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home. Ash in the snow Falling so slow Like fragile, broken hearts With no place to go. Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Come marching home He thought he knew What he was fighting for, But the sight of blood Made him question war. Poor soldier boy Cold and alone Bomb fall like rain, He's all alone Those leaves did grow From branches overgrown Drifting slowly down Resting in the snow. Little soldier boy Taken from home Forced to fight a war That is not his own. Leaves from the vine Changing so slow Like empty, fallen souls Looking for a home. Little soldier boy Thought that he could soar Died in their war.

When I first saw this show, it was my little brother (11) watching it, and I said not to watch it, it's for little kids and it's dumb, boy was I dumb, I watched this show because I had nothing else to watch, I thought I would stop at the first episode and stop watching it, I watched the whole thing in three days, this happened two months ago, and then I watched LoK, which took five days, now I'm watching anything related to this show, song covers, reactions, and my favorite scenes.

"I gave it a counter-melody and key change into the middle of the song to give it something different." I was insanely skeptical, but that turned out really well!

"You are no longer the man you used to be; you are stronger and wiser and freer than ever before. And now you've come to the crossroads of your destiny - it is time for you to choose. It is time for you to choose good." Iroh to Zuko, crossroads of destiny.
