Upon my FIRST trip to Thailand, I knew that I didn't want to leave! My first trip was 28 years ago and realized that with ALL of my international travels, Thailand was the ONLY place I felt I could call home. When I came back stateside, I asked myself WHY did I return to the U.S.?! It was from that moment on that I KNEW Thailand was my NEW home!!! I adore Thai food, the kindness of the Thai people, the feeling of safety, the peacefulness and the tranquility I experienced in Thailand (inside and outside of Bangkok) is what really presented a comforting calm for my spirit and my for soul. Doing my research and will return to seal the deal very soon.🙏🏾

My Husband and I have never been to Thailand. We are in our 50s and we keep hearing so much about it and would love to plan a trip to go there. We wanted to retire to Dubai but its too expensive as far as housing. Now we have Thailand on our list to consider. Thank you for this video.

I've been telling everyone- Thailand is the place to be. I've been there five times, and I can't get enough of it! I've also been encouraging people to rethink the whole idea of retiring in the U.S. and waiting until their 60s to do it. In my opinion, the sweet spot for retirement is your mid-to-late 40s or early 50s. Once you've spent time living or traveling abroad, especially in a place like Thailand, coming back to the U.S. really makes you realize, we've got it all backwards here. I've spent time living abroad, four years in the Middle East and a year in China, and there's nothing quite like the peace that comes with it. It's a whole different experience, one that changes your perspective in ways you never expect. Is everything better overseas? No. Is it for everyone? No. But you'll never know if it's for you unless you take the chance. And honestly, it doesn't have to be Thailand. Go anywhere! Just leave America and do it as soon as possible.

Thank you for taking the time to write this. Traveling abroad can really open your eyes to different ways of living. It sounds like you've had some incredible experiences that have shaped your perspective!

Double check the bank deposit info. I believe the DTV doesn't require you to have the funds in Thai bank but just having evidence that you have the funds in a bank account.
@docandbean7 күн бұрын
You're absolutely right! That was my mistake-it's the retirement visa that requires the funds to be in a Thai bank. Since we’re also close to retirement age, I got a bit mixed up while explaining. For the DTV, you just need to show proof that you have the funds in any bank account, not necessarily in Thailand. Thanks for catching that!

I'm moving to Thailand too but selecting Hua Hin. Check out the long term visa as they reduced the requirements a lot recently. Basically 1 person just needs $500K of USD assets and they can get a 10 year visa for themselves, their spouse, kids, and parents! No need to leave the country every 180 days (with the DTV) and I believe you only have to report in once a year instead of every 90 days.

Not one person was jealous of my move back then, but it seems things have shifted drastically and a good number of Americans want to get out for a variety of reasons. You guys seem to have all your bases covered, prepared as best you can, it’s just a matter of whether you like living in Bkk or not. In today’s world, that is a good problem to have.

One problem you might encounter, and I’m sure you’re aware of it, is air pollution from burning agricultural fields. Thai farmers in the north and northeast have a troubling habit of burning their fields after the harvest season, and the Thai government-especially the current administration-won’t do anything to address it because it’s in their strong support area. They don’t want to upset their voters, so the whole country has to endure the smoke during the burning season. It wasn’t much of an issue when I was there two decades ago, but it seems to be much worse now. Almost every country around Thailand is contributing to the problem as well. Burma, Laos, Cambodia, and Indonesia are the four biggest culprits. I was in Singapore once when Indonesian palm farmers burned their fields, and the smoke covered the entire area, even reaching Bangkok. It was terrible, and it made me stop using any products containing Indonesian palm oil as an ingredient until now.
