How did you change the log5y to get the 1+2 log5 x in the second line

Great Video! I approached (b)(ii) of the questions by converting back to indices using part (i). It is little bit more challenging, but a good way to save time for able students. The quadratic equation comes together within two lines. Overall, I prefer the way you approached it with logs, more accessible for the majority of students.

Thanks Sarah! I actually didn't even think of your way! but it sounds quicker not having to mess around with the awkward log fraction...Lots of room for students to make an error in this question I reckon.

Hi just wondering how did you simplify the equation at 6:04 to make it = 5?

It’s the law for converting logs with indices, pg.21 of maths formula book. Log Y to the base A = X .. converts to A to the power of X = Y

Where is the log55xsquared coming from at the beginning

starting with y=5x^2, take the log base 5 of both sides.
