For q2(b) if I found the distance from the from one corner of the parallelogram to the other using the distance formula and then the perpendicular distance from the point of the intersection to the side of the parallelogram then calculate triangle. I have already tried this and got 36 so I want to know if its something wrong with my workings or my method doesn't work.

For question 4 b(ii), why can't you use the cosine rule on triangle SRQ as you have angle A(143.13 deg.) and side opposite (10 cm ) ?
@SimpleScienceandMaths
@SimpleScienceandMaths 5 жыл бұрын
There's no reason why you can't use the cosine rule there, you have enough information to use it. In this case I thought the sine rule was more straightforward to use but you are free to use any method as long as you have the relevant information.

Just wondering, for Q7 a) iv) I got -1.76 when I put the inverse tan into my calculator, how did you get positive 1.76? Thank you!
@SimpleScienceandMaths
@SimpleScienceandMaths 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, hopefully you figured it out in the meantime but if you didn't: the calculator shows a minus but the reason why I worked with the positive is because it's the reference angle that I'm interested in which is positive in the first quadrant.

In Q8 (the sketch), why does the net include the base, when the question states that the light shade is open?
@SimpleScienceandMaths
@SimpleScienceandMaths 5 жыл бұрын
The square in the middle is the open base. Its as if you just unfold it if it was sitting on a table. That's the net in the marking scheme, they didn't accept any other versions but I would think other versions should be fine

Hey, at 1:04:50, Could you please explain to me why the chance of 10 fails has no 10C10?I mean, I see the pattern, that you only look if there are any passes, but for the right side, when you look for 10C1, would you get the same result if you did 10C9 to find all the fails? that seems wrong to me, but in the real exam, I am unsure for which 10C I should go for.
@SimpleScienceandMaths
@SimpleScienceandMaths 5 жыл бұрын
There is no 10C10 with the 10 fails because 10C10 = 1, you can put it in if you like and there is nothing wrong with doing so. On the RHS you could use 10C9 because 10C9=10C1, either one is technically fine but when using the formula for this we do nCr for the passes rather than the failures. In any case you should get the same answer because 10C9=10C1, 10C8=10C2, 10C7=10C3 etc...hope this helps, any further questions just ask!

@@SimpleScienceandMaths Oh wow, that actually helps alot, thank you! I expected 10C10 to be 1, and 10C0 to be same, but I did not expect 10C1 to equal 10C9. Thanks again!

For question 3b did you not have to specify which line was L or K?
@SimpleScienceandMaths

No that was not important for this particular question. If there was a diagram showing the lines then it would have been important.

Hi wondering for q8 a part iii i think you used the wrong height for area i believe you are meant to use the slant height as it is the perpindicular height calculated in previous question
@SimpleScienceandMaths
@SimpleScienceandMaths 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I think you may be mixing up the sides. The slant height was found to be 29 in the previous part, this is the distance from the centre of the base to the top of the lampshade along the face. The other value that was calculated was x=35.23, this is the length of one of the edges where two triangles meet going from the base to the top. So the perpendicular height of a triangular face to calculate area is 29cm. Hope this helps!

The formula I used z(sqrt)p-hat(1-p-hat)/n is the one to use whne we are referring to a 95% confidence interval and p is unknown. Are you wondering why the 1.96 was there? If so it's because of the 95% confidence interval

Q9 - 56.54 (ii) how is the z score of 0.75, 0.675
@SimpleScienceandMaths
@SimpleScienceandMaths 5 жыл бұрын
The difference there is the accuracy of the tables that the marking scheme used. If you look for 0.75 in your normal tables the closest you get is 0.7486 which gives a z score of 0.67, these values should have been accepted by the examiner
