I peaked at one moment at 27.5 mph on fletcher. But most of my top speeds were around 22 mph. I watched your video and then mine. Not sure what fps you record but mine was at 24 which generally makes it look faster and you looked quite a bit faster than me. So I wouldn’t doubt you got close to 30 mph at one point. Nice video.

A basic function cycle computer will record your max, avg, time rolling, distance etc - plus real-time speed. I went back to using a wired unit and favoured brand (Cateye Velo 7 - cheap, tiny and light), after countless fails with dead batteries and failed sender units with (relatively) expensive branded wireless computers. Plus, my last wired Cateye lasted from the 90s to 2017. The battery lasts forever and you know its time to swap the battery by the dimming display over a dozen rides or so (but it keeps functioning because it's wired), so you have plenty of opportunity to swap out.

If you just want to collect the stats and not do a hud, You can get a garmin watch or a garmin edge and add the speed sensor to your rear wheel. Record your rides with the garmin and you'll have all the data you could want.

Yep this is what I was going to say. With Garmin GPS tracking you don't need cell service. As much as you put into your riding and your fitness I am amazed you don't use garmin. there is no subscription fee and they track all kind of fitness and ride info for you, like max speed, HR, etc. Add a watch and track sleep, O2 saturation, etc. Cheers. Love your vids thanks for another one.

I have found that rolling distance and speed (from bike computer) on mtb trails (because they are not flat or straight) are greater than distance and speed measured by apps such as Strava that use gps. So on a steep downhill, 30 mph top speed on Strava might actually be closer to 34-35 mph.

Phone GPS and Strava both glitch out. My Strava has shown me hitting 57mph on my local trails. Now I never know whether to believe my PR's or any trophies. Probably best to just ride for the stoke and forget the numbers. 🤘🏻

Probably the best and most accurate way to measure speed is a speed sensor and a way to access that sensor with a bike conputor . I held off on bringing technoligy on my ride but i came around . I did not even bring my phone . Now i have a garmin computer and watch . I have strava and trailforks . For an old guy this may seem surprising but having some stats helps me monitor health and give me some morivation on repetitive rides to make it more interesting. I have got above 30mph on singletrack which is max for me and maybe above the control i like to have . I am slowly realing myself in on speed and keeping myself no more than 80 percent of max capabilty .

@stevencole7331
@stevencole7331 Жыл бұрын
@@matt45540 Actually my Garmin computer registers jumps with distance hangtime and speed . I am not sure if they have a algorithm to compute that with overall speed . I would assume they do . The jump calculation is a nice addition to what you can learn from a ride with technology. I don't see any of the MTB KZbinrs doing a test on this tech from Garmin . It also may give insight in your jump performance and may even help to improve skill . Not sure if the accuracy but for me it seems consistent .. I can say it's helpful .

For future reference, phone apps like that generally can't record stuff when they're in the background or when the phone screen is off. The phone will kill the process to save on battery, protect your privacy, and so on. So basically to have a reliable recording you need to have the app in the foreground and the screen on while you're recording. Or just get a Garmin. (Or whatever your favourite brand is / can find a sponsor for)

Hey Alex love the videos man. I finally took the plunge and switched from riding BMX to picking up a Marin hardtail about 3 months ago. Been loving it so far. But I've pretty much stuck to my local bike park (Duthie Hill in WA) and a couple local rides where I haven't needed anything but a water bottle. Now I'm looking to get into proper trail riding out in the woods. In doing so I know I'm gonna have to carry some gear. Going to pickup an Evoc hip pack pro. Trying to figure out exactly what I should be bringing along. I'm thinking a frame mounted pump, a tube, small patch kit (haven't gone tubeless yet), a multitool, some tire levers and food. Those seem like the essentials, but beyond that, a lot seems up for debate. Anyways, I was thinking that it would be a cool topic for a video. For the beginner rider who is pretty comfortable on the bike, but making the transition over to proper trail riding. How you can go a few different routes with mounting everything to the bike, using a hydration pack or a hip pack. What you need to carry and some recommendations on specific products or items that have saved your day on the trail that people may not think of (quick link taped to brake cables I've heard for example.)

I have a question….where did you start from exactly because I see several different trails called Spencer . There’s lower, gap and upper. I plan on riding there when I visit Asheville for my bday in April so I’d like to know where I should start. Beginning from upper looks fun and takes you all the down to fletcher so would that be ok? I also plan on riding Kitsuma one of the days also. Gateway trail system will all those flow trials is on my list too which looks close to Kitsuma. Any help would be appreciated brother.

This has probably already been said but in case it hasn't, you aren't going to get accurate speed just from a gps on your phone. Especially when going really fast. You need a speed sensor linked to your phone or head unit. So in a sense this isn't accurate at all.
