I was horrifically depressed since childhood. It was relentless. I assumed it would ultimately end me somehow. About twelve years ago I randomly accepted the offer from a friend of a few doses of mushrooms. I did them two consecutive nights alone. First night was pretty mild. The second night? Wow. I saw my depression from every angle, realized much. Next day: depression totally gone. Never came back, never coming back. It's like it's a forest far away I can remember, and could probably find again with enough effort, but it has zero impact on anything in my life or mind. They honestly saved my life and improved it immensely. I never did them again, either. I wish there was a good, organized way to administer them to people who would benefit from them.

I have the inattentive version and even I'm stressing while seeing this. Girl, you living on hard mode. I'm sending you love and wishing for your success in the difficult mundane dealings we so often struggle with. Subconscious routines have saved me from this chaos. If you don't have the executive function required for a task, if at all possible create "scaffolding" where you need that executive functioning as little as possible. I never lose my earphones because they never leave my ears. 😂 I sleep with them, I shave with them. I only take them out to shower.
@bagodrago4 ай бұрын
See this works in theory until they run out of battery or fall out while you sleep and you have to pull apart your entire bed only to realize it was under your pillow and you missed it somehow. This also doesn't work as well for my glasses despite them literally being on my face almost 24/7, I sometimes can't find them in the morning or if I take them off to relax my eyes. Wallet and keys are normally easier for me because I often just leave them together so it's hard to miss them.

So horribly accurate. I'm either an hour early, or just late enough to miss my first connection and end up outrageously late. An absolute game-changer for me, though, was discovering the concept of the "Every Day Carry Bag." It's essentially a handbag but FOR MEN. As a bloke who's always been a bit fond of anything with pouches and compartments, I discovered I can weaponise that love against my ADHD. I have a tactical bag that contains everything I need to carry every day. I can immediately check every pouch for the contents its supposed to have, of which most of it NEVER needs to leave the bag once I'm home. It's also small enough I can carry it around the house with me, so if I need my phone or bank card, it's all right there. It even comes to the bedroom with me. It means I always know where my wallet, keys, water bottle, phone, headphones and book are. Now... If only I could remember where I put my bloody trousers...
@faescotland41744 ай бұрын
But WHY, why is it like this? I plan to leave half an hour before I need to, and try and be ready to go 10 mins before because I inevitably need to pee and check windows are shut etc. I HAVE to keep my keys in the same pocket - I need to wear or have a coat whatever the weather, it's too stressful not knowing where my keys are if they aren't in the same place, I have to buy coats with zippy pockets or my keys might leap out and get lost, and I can't stand the thought of locking myself out. And WHY does no one understand these difficulties?!

Like the sudoku app on my phone that I can use while waiting for my appointment. The anxiety of being late is so much worse than being bored 'cause I'm 15 min early. It ruins my whole day. If I open KZbin in the morning I'm guaranteed to lose half a day😅 Having multiple alarms stress me out, so my playlist is the calmer version of that.

Being free to take responsibility for our own routines in my own family was great. And i help them without judgement when it goes wrong. Seeing that by leaving their shoes somewhere random without thinking, or leaving their trousers inside out, disrupted their future self, helped them to choose to love themselves & give future them a helping hand when they need it most. The lack of object permanence means that we won't know we need this thing until we are right on it sometimes, so finding the ways around it when it is in mind is so helpful. The struggle is real! 😅 I have to trick myself just to arrive places in time. I put everything in my phone calendar 15+ minutes before the actual appointment time. I have travel time turned on by default so I get multiple alerts before I have to leave. My phone connects to my smart watch that I wear all the time in case I lose track of my phone, which I do frequently. I set out clothes the night before and put everything I need to leave the house in the same place every time so I always know where to find stuff. I also can track my phone with my smart watch, so even when I put it somewhere and forget it I can find it quickly. Everything from hanging out with a friend to work deadlines goes in my calendar and I check it daily so I know what is coming up and I can prepare ahead of time. Having a system that works has been such a game changer for me! I know it wouldn’t work for everyone, but I have only been late to an appointment once in the last 2 years and that’s honestly a huge accomplishment! All you fellow ADHD folks out there, I feel for you. I had to try a bunch of stuff before I found a system that works for me. Try different things out and see what works- I believe in you!

My sister got me headphones for Christmas last year. I was able to meet my online friends for the first time in real life thanks to them. I am 100% sure without them I would have felt too ill to stay because we were at a very loud place. Those things are a lifesaver. To anyone who feels ill when in public places, i highly recommend headphones. You might be experiencing sensory overload.

I can't tell you how many times I realise I can't find my keys just before I'm about to leave

This scenario perfectly explains how I ended up locked out of the building at 10pm last night, and my husband had an hour left in his flight. I went through my mental checklist (keys and phone) to head to the dumpster, couldn't find my keys so I grabbed his. He had the building key with the car key so he didn't have to wake me up. Thank God it was a nice clear night, actually made miss having a front porch to sit out on at night. Also thankfully one of my neighbors came out and let me back in

I had no idea about the clothes and dressing thing. I was like that so often. Now I generally choose my clothes the night before. But I still quite often forget and end up dressed but either way a bed full of discarded clothes, and shoes, and bras, and knickers, and stockings, etc!!!!!

That is me to a capital T. Then comes the worst part of ringing someone to say you’re going to be late that’s usually when I burst into tears and anger. Then I wonder why I have no friends any more😢

Why is it that things only go wrong when we're running late 😭 Or the train that gets me there right on time (I normally take the one before) is suddenly delayed, just that train just that day 😅

Anyone else feel like troll bots like to comment they feel attacked. Is this sarcastic? Anyway I feel 100000% seen and love these little ways to feel less alone in it.

That's why I set my alarm for 2 hours before I actually have to be there then I can snooze four times get up take a shower and do all the things I need to do and have time to remember what I forgot to take with me😂

To combat this kind of situation, i get everything i need ready the night before. It takes some effort but its worth it.

This is why I plan to catch the train before the one I actually need to catch and pack up everything I need to go and put it by the door the night before. It isn't perfect, because it means I'm sometimes ridiculously early to things, and I don't always remember to pack everything I need the night before, but it works for me much better than what I was doing before

Well done having your phone,wallet and keys set on your dresser, a few recommendations by @HowtoADHD is pack what you can the night before, set out clothes the night before and have a “launchpad” by the front door aka spot with everything you need to grab before heading out the door

That sounds like a level of organisation which I could maintain for maybe three nights max.
@julietteferrars30974 ай бұрын
I've tried that, but it leads to me getting distracted and staying up too late, so then I'm exhausted the next morning and sleep through my alarm, making me late anyway. 🙈

I go back to my house sometimes 3 times before I've remembered everything I need. It really gets to me because by the 3 time I'm just too exhausted to do what thr day demands of me. 😔

Me in the mornings when I have an opening shift at work. Theoretically I know how much time I need and I try to ration it out, but day-to-day fatigie (or energy) plus whatever my decides to do that morning always throws me off kilter and I wind up either with no time to spare or late.

It's either... WAAAAAYYYY to early, or everything has to be done in a rush and I forgot at least one item, probably also missing the train.
