Good video Les. I have to agree with you about the living standards in the UK. After retiring to Thailand (Korat) a number of years ago, I went back to the UK earlier this year to take care of some business, I was shocked at how essential things had increased in price since my previous visit back home. It's definitely better here in Thailand, my pension dosh goes a lot further here and I don't think that I will be visiting the UK any time soon. Take care 👍

Hi Les, I've watched your KZbin videos for quite some time now and always found them informative. But this video really touched a nerve with me in the sence that I will be leaving England for Thailand next year with the view to permanent retirement in Thailand. The reasons I have been feeling, you voiced in your video. I am so disappointed in Britain and cannot contemplate spending my retirement here. It feels good to know I'm not alone in my thoughts. You've given me extra confidence in my plans and thoughts on moving to Thailand...

As a point of interest make sure you actually live there 6 months or more before making that decision , the village and local town where our place is in issan is surrounded by foreign paid for ex pat buildings that have been abandoned now for years , where most of em came to Thailand for around the 30 days on the tourist visa , then retired there and the reality of the heat , not speaking the language and boredom set in then the drinking then they went back home again having lost small fortunes . Having said that some people are very happy with that life so good luck to you if that’s your kinda thing , but it’s best to spend at least 6 months in one block to make sure before hand 👍👍

@Retired Painter thank you for your advice. I am in fact giong ti do exactly as you advise, I'm spending an initial year with my girlfriend before returning to the UK to apply for my pension. By the time i come back i should know whether it's for me or not.......

Yes mate well done , sorry if it sounded like I presumed you wasn’t going to , it’s just over the years I’ve seen so many loose so much . Another tip is if your going for a year ( again you might well know this ) but the best visa to get would be a years multi entry from the embassy in London which you will need amongst a load of other things to get a thai driving licence if you want to drive , as you can only drive on your IDL for the first 3 months . Whereabouts area wise are you thinking of moving to ? Good luck with it mate , hope it all works out for you and you have a great retirement out there 👍👍
@leegreenwood6316 Жыл бұрын
@Retired Painter ok, I'm looking to live down south near Nakhon Si Thammarat. The girlfriend's family live there and are good people. I was thinking of going on a sixty day visa then extend that to a non immigrant o visa. But the multi entry visa is something I will look into. Is the multi entry visa the same as a non immigrant oa visa?. I'd really appreciate your advice.

Thanks Les, i appreciate your sharing of your journey and views. The concerns and negitive aspects of the UK appear to be unfloding in much of the western world, this includes Australia. I do notice that (like the frog in a pot story) people do not notice these changes for the worse until its too late, people that travel and can see a better life and opportunity have far more scope to see what is happening to our, Western, homes is less attractive. Have a great life Les.

same as you les you know i live in thailand and like you am back in uk for a couple of months and its nice to be back to see friends and family . After being in thailand now for a time you realise that some things are cheap and others not so cheap it has different ways to look about it ,i wont bring the weather into it because thailand is hot nearly all year round but eventhat can be frustrating as most people try to find shade to get cooler having been here in the snow and cold you just wrap up and go for a walk sometimes in thailand its too hot to do anything so in the uk i find more people walk and hike alot of people go to thailand for the wrong reasons and we all know what they are and if you dont know what your doing it can be expensive than the uk we are talking partners its alright going for younger models but that can be expensive youmve got to think why would a young pretty girl go out with an older guy( you guess it money) thai women know the game so be very wary another thing is dont tell people what you,ve got i,ll say one more thing when you are fit you can have a good time in thailand the problem is it can be very expensive on medical bills in thailand especially ongoing treatments which pushes up medical bills alot and alot of companies will not insure for ongoing problems people come to thailand for a holiday thinks its great, well it is but holidays are not like stopping there you,ve got to weigh up things rationally dont just jump in i know the cost of living is cheaper in thailand but so are the wages dont just think of sun , sea and women which alot do

Just remember that if you have trouble with the retirement visa in Thailand, you are always welcome in Cambodia. Thanks Sean, having spoken to my Doctor almost 5 weeks after my A&E visit still no info from the Hospital she is referring me to a specialist about Emphysema she said it could take up to 3 months. I will be sat in sun drinking coffee on my veranda by then. I will get some treatment in Thailand if required. The UK was admired World wide years ago now were looked upon as fools. The UK is being taken for a ride by our own laws. Criminal than we can't defend our own boarders. Perhaps the Germens should have invaded England by small boats we can't stop them.
I would badly regret if I have to leave my motherland, Thailand, too. I keep telling the new gen not to hate our nation. They still do hate every single bit of their own blood and keep dreaming of a better life in the western world. Let them grow and learn n hope its not too late for them :(

It's a growing problem when Brits on a decent pension aren't recirculating their wealth in the UK economy. The grey pound is absolutely key to the survival of pubs, restaurants and the high street in general.
@barrydwyer2039 Жыл бұрын
Les, It seems like the UK is on a downward spiral and has yet to touch rock bottom. You'll be much happier back in Thailand at half the price, value for money seems to be a thing of the past here. The fact you have a decent pension from the fire service will stand you in good stead. The state pension on the other hand will become much less attractive as it receives no inflation updating in Thailand unless something changes in the next few years. Anyway enough of the morosity, I will be in Thailand in a couple of weeks 2/1/23 for a few months and I wouldn't mind meeting up for a beer and a packet of crisps (chilli flavour). I'm using this trip to see if I can hack Thailand full time come 2024 when I officially retire @ 66yo. Take care. regards Barry

As a Thai, I first heard of things like "decadence has set in" from my 80 yo Brit friend since 2015. He was back in the outskirt of London to live his home, which he worked so hard for decades to afford. He's back there because he was diagnosed with cancer. I just couldn't believe what he always described because what I saw on the BBC was lively and colourful UK. People packed on Knightsbridge with shopping bags in their hands. And the UK is industrialized, very well organized, ruled by law with advanced economy. The World's Financial Centre. Yet my friend told me to not believe in what I saw. He told me that the doors of his home are always open for me whenever I want to visit London and travel in the UK. Then covid struck the world. International travel was such a hassle and expensive. He died earlier this year. I failed to see the UK with my own eyes. I still miss my friend. He possessed some traits eerily similar to my biological grandpa, a Chinese who fled Mao Tse-tung's sweep victory over Mainland China to restart his life along with my grandma and his siblings Thailand. Although I have watched this video, I still need to see the UK with my naked eyes eventually. I just couldn't believe it.

Hi Les! 12 yeaes ago, the Tories came into office, the country had a 750 billion national debt. Today, we have, after their stewardship a 2.5 trillion national debt. Still, they no what's best for us. I DON'T THINK. I fly next month myself to Thailand, but I go the 18th. Have great Christmas mate and safe journey.

runaway social fiscal spending. runaway censorship. immigrants failing to integrate into society. gov protecting grooming gangs. social fabric breakdown due to regressive social policies. money printers go burr. just this year, we had sanctions on Russia. fwiw, UK was not alone. EU and US are doing similar, although UK and Germany policies also caused its own energy crisis. lucky it's a mild winter.

sadly, media does not appear to care about national debt anymore. Just look at various EU, UK, and US balances. Way up. I get it that we had to handout money due to covid, but, it was excessive. multiple factors causing inflation. US and EU cental bank raised rate yesterday to fight inflation.

My mother and I are Thai. My mother won the prize. We had enough money to go see a real clock tower in England. But my mother and I met a group of children in winter clothes and hats covering their faces. Speak badly of me and my mother. But that's just having a bad experience sometimes. But that doesn't mean England is bad at all.
