Its only straightforward to get a Non Lucrative Visa if as a single person you have €29,000 passive unearned income per annum ( this figure goes up each year). Thats not savings that has to be evidenced regular income from a pension or dividends from stocks/shares or rental income etc. If you are a couple with 2 kids it is €43,000 per annum. Many people could comfortably afford to live on much less than this, especially in inland Spain but this level of required passive income means they cant get a visa. Thats why so many people opt for Portugal or other EU countries where the passive income criteria are set much lower.

If Brits working on the black were obliged to go home because they didn't feel they could make a go of working autonomo legally post Brexit that's fine with me, and if long standing British residents failed to register with the Hacienda or local authorities to dodge local taxes, likewise. @@neilmahoney7458 I'm 63 and pay €750 a year for full PHI. I've had three experiences with the Spanish healthcare system. 1) A Spanish neighbour cut his hand badly pruning a tree and I drove him to the local hospital - I walked him into the A&E and left him to park my car, which I'd left blocking the entrance. By the time I returned he'd been x-rayed, and was being seen by a doctor. Absolutely first rate care. 2) Another Spanish neighbour had an inguinal hernia that needed fixing. I drove him down at 8am and he was still waiting at 3pm (bear in mind he wasn't allowed to eat or drink since midnight the previous evening) to be prepped for surgery - this was for an elective procedure that would take two hours from admission to post-op recovery with release being in under six hours assuming no problems. I'd had exactly the same surgery with the NHS in the UK a decade ago - I was in and out within four hours. The UK surgeon was doing nothing but inguinal hernias that day and as one was wheeled out the next was being wheeled in, the whole team was geared to rapid throughput of patients. On this one I'd say the Spanish NHS were woeful in comparison. 3) I had a recurrence of a back problem I'd suffered in the UK 15 years earlier. I had copies of my medical records and MRI scan that I took along for the first consult with a GP. She decided that I needed a specialist (2 week wait), the specialist took another week for his report to be ready which I had to collect in person, another few days before I could see my GP,.she decided that she wanted a sonogram (another two weeks but at least I could take my report home with me - and I got to visit a part of La Rosaleda Stadium I hadn't seen before!), then another week before I could see my GP - who agreed that it was a recurrence of the problem I'd had in the UK. What particularly blew my mind was that none of these people actually emailed anything to one another - I literally carried paperwork from one doctor to another, who would type into her records the details given by the specialist whilst I sat there before we started the consult proper. Don't get me wrong, everyone was extremely nice, and the healthcare itself very good but it just seemed grossly inefficient. I suspect it probably depends on where you are in Spain (the state system is administered at AC level rather than nationally) and what healthcare you need - my impression is that A&E is first rate, particularly in areas with lots of tourists (and I suspect most Brits use A&E more than anything else) whilst the rest of the Spanish health system is creaking a bit around the edges. Certainly local news reports (I live near Malaga) indicate problems in the system.

I'm an Essex boy, living in Vienna Austria since 2009. As in Spain there used to be many more Brits living here before Brexit; every year saw many youngsters arrive to experience living in a major european capital. Since 2020 the only English speakers you hear round town are Irish and Americans. British international influence has greatly diminished since Brexit.

@musitecture.vienna3 ай бұрын
@@mw01908 yeahI get that, but influence is more than just trade. Cultural influence is borne of direct unhindered interaction, and the EU is the most successfully integrated example of this in action. @m2thep2theaargh3 ай бұрын
@@mw01908your comment is flawed. GB was always free to trade with the whole world, our trade deals were very favourable to us because of the political weight and bargaining power that membership of a 28 country bloc afforded us. They were the ones that legged it to Spain and deregistered for UK tax and lived under the radar as "tourists" while working on the black economy. Did not register for Spanish tax and legged it back to blighty if they needed health care and used the UK health insurance card to pay for medical care. Now, they have to register for residency, tax, and healthcare and learn the language. Then there's the people who thought the Spanish government would just let them stay.

If the new ETIAS system is introduced, many more British people will be deported from the country or simply no longer enter the country. ETIAS not only checks your criminal record, but also if you have outstanding fines. you cannot enter the country if you have committed serious traffic violations and if you have had fines exceeding a thousand euros. Well, they had time to sort their status out - I guess some (probably the very ones who voted for Brexit) never got over their sense of British exceptionalism to even bother checking the new rules and their options before it was too late. But even for those who did, devaluation of the pound has made living in Spain from GBP based income a very different economic prospect. This is what happens when people allow themselves to be wound up by populists so much that they deny themselves freedoms as long as it denies others too. And I'm not even saying that their anger was wrong (nor am I saying it was entirely justified, that is a separate argument) - but Brexit was never going to be the solution to anything.

We became residents after living here for 2 months though it was really easy then. Made sure all our " ducks were in a row" and have never looked back. Sorry to say the only downside is the number of English, mainly, exceptionalists we have to avoid. Scotland had the second LOWEST turnout in the UK (NI had the lowest). Of the sixty percent of the electorate in Scotland who got off their backsides and voted, 62% of these voted to remain. So, 62% of sixty percent is actually around forty percent of the electorate voting to remain. Let's just be a bit more honest.

However, some of the difficulties you have encountered such as applying for visas, private healthcare...you could have prevented. There was a limit time giving in all European Countries including UK for applying for Permanent Residence or straight away Citizenships. Just with permanent residence your healthcare would have been free and you wouldn’t have the need to apply for any visa. It is not just due to Brexit Spain has changed. As I said above, I am Spanish and found life in Spain has become a lot of more difficult. There are tax increasingly on the go to be paid for almost everything. But the worse problem these days in Spain are the super massive of millions ilegal invasions have suffered since Spain member in EU. These invasions have brought into Spain terrorism, criminals of all kinds, women rapist, thieves, murders, drug dealers rings, organised criminal organisations, gangs... even when Spain is my mother first Country I do not feel secure when I travel to Spain any longer.

I know about applying in the UK(1yr Visa) at the Spanish Consulate, but it's difficult to understand where/how to do this in Spain. Immigration Centres in Andalusia/Almeria? Anyone else applied whilst in Spain?

The visa application with all the extras required cost £524 each paid when you take the paperwork into the London (or other UK) office.
