I was raised UPCI, I walked away in my early 20s, I am 57 now. It had taken me years to sift through the teaching. I loved my childhood pastor Jessie Williams from Fayetteville NC. I think of him fondly and still have a great respect for him. I appreciate my Mother and her walk with God, she was my template, to be a Christian. I came to the revelation of what I call "Heaven or Hell" issues. That helped me break down my thought process through it all. Any thing that wasn't a heaven or hell issue I threw it out. I was in my 30s and speaking with a young man about the Godhead. He was Trinity, and very staunch in his thinking against the oneness Christians. He had no idea, what my beliefs were, I hadn't told him. At that moment it dawned on me, "Wait a minute we are both children of God" I feel God, in that moment gave me revelation. He may believe in 3 separate persons, but he still believes in One God. Why make an issue of it, if he believes in One God. We sat and discussed it, and we both realized, we were both right. We both were scriptural, as we both believed in One God. It changed everything for me, and my way of thinking. Whether one believes the Godhead is the spirit, the son with One God or all three are One God, it was one God. As far as tounges I believe, and came to the same conclusion as you did. Tounges is the "evidence" of the spirit, I don't need to see your evidence to know if you have been filled with the spirit. There was a moment, I heard tounges in my head while I was speaking (prophecying) to someone. I was amazed by that, as it had never happened to me before. I realized I can never know what is happening in someone else that is between them and God our savior. As far as water baptism, I had someone tell me the story, I had heard a thousand times before about the thief on the cross, alongside Jesus, Christ told him "Today you will be with me in paradise", He wasn't baptized. I've never had the same mindset about it since. I remember when Tommy Tenny left the UPCI, I felt like someone understood. Not to mention I had a pastor that had left as well. I Thank God for what I learned from Bro Williams, I trusted him and his judgment was sound. The most important thing that I learned, was to seek out my own salvation with fear and trembling. I now go to a non-denomination church, and I speak to God every day, often in tounges. My greatest memories are of my Mother praying every night in the home, and interceding for God in tounges. I would not change it for the world. God has us all on a journey and I am in it all the way.

There are doctrinal issues that can condemn people. The trinity, not being baptized in the name of Jesus and not holding to the doctrine of God. I haven't attended a UPCI since 2000 but I hold to the doctrine of God, the apostles and prophets also

I think trinitarians and those who believe as the UPCI actually believe in the same thing. An individual person can be many things yet one. Like a man can be a dad, a brother, a son, a friend, a neighbor, an employee, etc but they are one person.

Praise GOD for setting you FREE from that bondage of traditions of men and Lies and manipulation... I have also been set Free from the same organization as you guys! I am so very thankful and Have so much more Joy & PEACE now. Thank you for sharing this! I know a lot of people are struggling with leaving also. I know a few of them. We were called into the office a few times, the Last time the pastor called us into his office after a sermon/message on if you don't pay your Tithe to the building then you will be cursed.. We SPLIT. Ditched the office call, and never went back again, didn't feel led to even explain ourselves because the LORD told us NOT to. ~Galatians 1:10 ~ God or Man?

What you said towards the beginning about the unspoken things and ignoring whatever makes the church look bad... you are spot on. I even saw a message title recently from a Pentecostal church that read: “Don’t leave because of what’s wrong. Stay because of what is right.” I could only think, wow, just their way of neglecting anything they could be in error about. Thanks for your testimony. Just sent you both friend requests on FB

When I was at TBC, a young couple, together 3 years and about to graduate, we’re forced by the “board” to break up because the young man went to an apostolic church that didn’t come under the authority of the UPCI. They were heartbroken and did break off their engagement. So, it’s not about doctrine, either. It’s about complete dictatorship unless you are UPCI. The saddest part is that they let him go to school there and pay huge money before they told him he didn’t “measure up” at the end of his 3rd year. Hypocrites and politics.

Within Apostolic circles, there is perception against who is truly Saints, versus “Christians” (i.e., Christians who don’t measure up and are treated as outsiders by one’s own arbitrary criteria). Evangelical social circles can be extremely competitive to the point of being toxic. Although Apostolic life can become what is called a “guilt culture,” however being Apostolic carries with it much more of an “honor/shame culture” dynamic. That is, your reputation is everything. What you do doesn’t matter, it’s all about what others think or believe to be true of you. The fact that these subtle judgments are all couched in “what they believe God thinks” and “what they believe Jesus would do” expressions and demeanor absolves individuals of responsibilities for their often harsh and unethical behavior in trying to enforce their perception of right and wrong of saintly standards. Relationships are casualties of a religiosity that places a far greater focus on conformity, rather than on compassion. We don’t realize how much of an impact from someone’s judgment/chastisement feels exactly like rejection until you’re on the receiving end. Many people which compete for the spiritual crescendo just to feel respected themselves have no idea how much harm they’ve cause others until they slip up and find themselves the target of those smug stares. Shame is quite an effective way of controlling people’s behavior and vicissitudes, until they decide to get off the merry-go-round and cut ties with your toxic religion-at which point they are labeled apostate and effectively shunned.

One thing that was a sticking point to me, is that one of their "Premiere People", Rev. Johnny James, actually preaches that, even if you have asked God to forgive your sins, that God withholds his forgiveness, until you've been Baptized in Jesus' Name. And: Come to find out (Surprise, surprise!), they also teach that you're not even a Christian, until you've not only been Baptized, but have "Spoken in Tongues", which they claim they have Scripture for. This Scripture states:"If any Man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his". This is their way of saying that, unless you have spoken in some kind of a "Religious Garble", that you're not even a Christian. That, my friend, is an absolute twisting of the Scriptures! If you have come to Christ, and asked God to forgive your sins, as His Spirit convicted you of your sins, then God HAS forgiven and forgotten every sin you've ever committed! At the time you are converted to Jesus Christ, you ARE saved! Don't let Dr. Spook, or Dr. Spick try to tell you you're not Saved, if you've received Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, because you ARE saved! The word of any "Religion " isn't what matters. The Word of God-Now THAT'S what matters!!!

One of the problem with some "Pentecostal groups" is that often times these so called apostolic churches do not teach people properly. There is too much emphasis on tongues , and baptism and they leave the rest. Specially UPCI , they think that after Acts 2:38 you do not need to know anything else. We are saved by grace through faith and not of our selves (Ephesians 2:8-10). Everyone has to believe Christ's death, burial and resurrection to be saved (1 Cor 15:3-10) and then they have to repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost (Acts 19:2-7, Acts 10:44-47). The scripture is clear that we need to be born again of the water and spirit. People do not need to speak in tongues to be saved, when they get the real Holy ghost they will speak in tongues as a sign of being filled. Not the other way around. It is sad to hear that the lack of sound teaching caused you guys to stumble and to go backwards. I pray that if you guys truly desire sound doctrine, the Lord will lead you to a church that has the Apostles' doctrine and that is sound in the scripture.

When I left to move many miles away (with blessing) and a letter, God Himself orchestrated my circumstances and was no longer part of UPCI. After which I found myself serving as a senior pastor, then went to seminary and was duly ordained. God Himself planned a 180 in my journey right out of that group. No bitter feelings, no problems, had a great and respected pastor. But know that I know I am 38 years later in The Will of God!

5 mins into it and I’m stopping because the Apostolic Church, is not perfect. If you are in a church that wants everything to be perfect, that doesn’t mean you give up and leave the Apostolic generation to go live in the world. First of all, it is Gods job to take care of that Pastor/Bishop who is leading that church, not saying you said otherwise. Second, every church has there issues. What I see in today’s day in age, when people leave an Apostolic church, they think that the rest of Apostolic church’s is like that. That is not the case. Now, what I will say is that what your doing right now IS making that Apostolic churches look bad. We are not perfect, every single one of us sins daily, and that is why repentance is vital!!

This is Dan. Watch all of them. Would you tell someone who belongs to a Watchtower assembly not to leave because, you know, the Watchtower "isn't perfect"? We belong to a church now that is still not perfect, and we are totally fine with that. This is not about finding perfection within the broad Church body. This is about false gospel/heresy. Quite different.

@@FreedominJesusUPC Dan- Your argument is flawed here because of the doctrinal viewpoint of the watchtower society. The Apostoilc doctrine is the only doctrine of the NT. @@FreedominJesusUPC Well, there were probably about a hundred things. But I started asking questions about why we teach that speaking in tongues is necessary for salvation. It was very genuine, and the last thing I wanted to do was leave because, due to the foster care thing, the church had become the only family I knew. People really started freaking out and tried to cast “the spirits of rebellion” out of me. They told me to “get my education (I was in college), and get over it.” I thought my mind was designed by God, and He made me analytical, and if I was using it to seek a better understanding of Him, how could that be rebellious? Also, there was this one woman with thick, thick hair that was down past her knees. She was a sweet, kind woman who I adored. She always had migraines, and the doctor told her it was from the weight of her hair, so she cut it to about the middle of back, and people were so mean to her. That really made me mad. But it was really a ton of things. I still miss it bc I feel like I lost yet another family. But I just try to remind myself that Jesus is even better that the UPCI can fathom. Now I work in a refugee camp in the Middle East.

@@bethanyestes5126 wow, what a story! Yes, I think many of us come out because we’ve sought a better understanding of who Jesus is and what the Bible truly says, yet, we are labeled rebellious or backsliders! I think this is what causes many people to stay in and bury their doubts or questions. They’ve dumbed down the Holy Spirit to an “experience” and have forgotten he is the one who leads us and points us to our savior in all things! Not everything is the devil! We are going to be putting our a new video soon on that topic, because we’ve witnessed such a preoccupation with the devil and how it’s used to control people. I remember a woman in my area with thick, red hair down to her feet. She was glorified as being the epitome of what an Apostolic woman should be, yet she also suffered from migraines and had to cut her hair. She was the talk of everyone! It’s just so sad.

Seems you guys experience what, unfortunately, has plagued the upci and other organizations for many generations. Legalism, authoritarianism and nepotism lead to supression-ism. This in turn leads to a downward spiral of seclusion and spiritual depression. The areas of governance, management and culture seem to suffer from an unhealthy balance in these organizations. However, there is a tremendous remnant of authentic people in the upci. Ive grappled many times with the ills of this organization and yet the Lord keeps promting many us (including me) to be the change that is needed and not leave...prove that it can be be different through action. There are very progressive UPCI churches, and very old school ones as well. Also many adherents do truly love The Lord, and are beautiful people. I left in the 80's and suffered greatly, but I have forgiven. I been Apostolic for 41 years and wouldn't change a thing.God has been my everything. I have plenty of Christian friends that's not apostolic, I don't judge them, God is our judge. Sorry about ur experience, my pastor is a great man of God and only preaches the word. He is great friends with all the the pastors in town. Trinity is three persons in one God. (Dan) That's dishonest. Children can come to saving faith, right? Are they expected to be theological giants at that point? No. And if they've been saved and don't have the proper guidance from believing parents or a church, it doesn't make them not born again anymore. Likewise, a novice in the faith can drift into error and be brought out of it, and through it be made to stand on more solid ground.

The bottom line is there is only one Church that Jesus Christ is coming for and it is not a denomination or organization on this earth. This church is made up of those who overcome in Jesus Christ. They are born-again because they have accepted the grace of God through faith that Jesus made a way for through the shedding of His perfect blood! It is important we defend Jesus Christ and His words not the doctrines of our denominations such as the Apostolic oneness churches who are in error, and many know they are in error but ignore it to stay the road! There are some in the Oneness church who are born-again and overcoming even with wrong teaching. But we will be held accountable for the errors we preach! More people in the Oneness and other denominations are led astray because of these errors than will make it because they somewhere trust in Jesus and follow Him. If you are defending your “church organization” as “holy” then you are BLIND! And the blind will lead the blind into a ditch! It is about Jesus as savior. I believe in the Trinitarian doctrine that God is one, one period! I believe that the One God is manifested in 3 persons as we see from Genesis to Revelation. I believe it because it is truth in the word of God not because I was taught it in a denomination. And I sure do not worship my denomination or local church doctrine! I worship and cling to Jesus, I serve Jesus and not as a METAPHOR. I GET SO SICK OF HEARING THIS FALSE NARRATIVES ABOUT THE APOSTOLIC CHURCH IS THE ONLY CHURCH like the early church when it is ALMOST the OPPOSITE IN MANY WAYS! Thank you Jesus that you save us as INDIVIDUALS, not as church groups!

I have been going to an Apostolic Church for a couple of months but I am a Baptist so it is weird for me bc I don't believe any of their doctrine and the have a very infantile view of the Bible. Like they don't understand that the word name has different definitions and the way it is used there is not a proper name but as: Authority; behalf; part; as in the name of the people. When a man speaks or acts in the name of another, he does it by their authority or in their behalf, as their representative. Anyway they said they are doing things handed down since the apostles but they let women speak in the church. They have testimony time and all the women ramble on and on about a bunch of nonsense...I was at the grocery store and blah blah blah for 10 minutes. That's why Paul said they need to be silent in the church. And a bunch of other stuff that is not Biblical. I don't wear skirts either. I just go there and act really oblivious to everything.

1 Timothy 4 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; I pray in Jesus name for all who left the truth will come back. 😊 I love my Apostolic Life. I love being baptized in Jesus name and filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the spirit gives the utterance. God had truly blessed my life I was Baptist before I came to this faith. I wasn’t saved or living my life holy. I was baptized in titles with no remission of my sins. I thank the Holy Ghost for leading me into the truth. 😊🙏🏽. Continue to pray my strength in the Lord in Jesus name 🥰

(This is Dan) Perhaps you didn't come to saving faith til later. That happens to many who have been in all kinds of churches, including Pentecostal. But the dogmatic teachings of the Jesus Only movement is not "the faith". Regardless of whether speaking in tongues sometimes happens when filled with the Spirit, and regardless of being baptized in Jesus' name is a valid mode, to say these things have to happen specifically or else one is not saved and "in the faith" is itself, I'm sorry to say, a doctrine of devils. The movement needs to repent. Btw, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are not simply titles. Look at Isaiah 9:6. His name shall be called . . . everlasting Father. ; )

What truth?? Most of the "truth" spoken of in this church is manmade truth. One cannot read the Bible and come to these conclusions. The Bible says what it means and means what it says there is no secret decoder ring needed. Thats what this church does is puts manmade deciphers into the message to TRY and make their point. Loving God above all else and following the teachings of Jesus, believing in Jesus as the one who died for your sins and repenting of sin is ALL one needs to do in order to be saved. That is factual and that is Biblical.

@@PCloadletter1981 Three times in the book of Acts examples are given of believers recieving the Holy Spirit. The first thing that happened was that they spoke in tongues. The bottom line is whether when we stand before the Lord whether or not He sees those three examples as proof that a believer should expect to speak in tongues as confirmation that they have recieved the Holy Spirit.

I BELIEVE IT IS ONLY THE PASTORS RESPONSIBILITY TO CALL OUT SINS. IT IS NOT FOR US CHURCH MEMBERS TO POINT OUT PEOPLES SINS. THE PASTOR HAS THE OBLIGATION TO CALL OUT SINS, BECAUSE HE IS WATCHING OVER YOUR SOUL. REMEMBER MIRIAM WHO QUESTIONED MOSES NUMBERS 12:1-14 PEOPLE MAY NOT BECOME LEPROUS PHYSICALLY, BUT THE LEPROUSY MAY BE IN THE SOUL AS A BLINDNESS IN THE HEART THAT CAUSES DECEPTION.

It is every Christian's responsibility to lead others to repentance. We are to name sin specifically. It isn't solely the pastor's job to do that.

I watched this thinking that there might be some genuine biblical substance for these videos and was sadly dissapointed for 2 reasons. Firstly, your explanation of your experience and observations revealed a genuine lack of understanding of the Word of God. There is no question or debate that the Apostolic doctrine is both correct and essential. Yet- you overlook/ disregard this reality. For example, your initial complaint about pastoral authority fails in view of Heb. 13:17. Its non-negotiable. As your husband correctly stated, that does not mean that the Pastor can ask you to sin, violate the Word of God or do anything illegal. However- Apostolic authority in the church as stated in several biblical passages, requires submission. This is not control or superiority but rather fulfilling oversight. Secondly- is your assumption that others that are truly Apostolic are "blind" (church members). This is called 'projection'. It simply means that you are placing your perspective (and opinion) as reality and truth and judging others as potentially, like yourselves. I would caution you on this. When a person is walking towards the light, their shadow is behind them. When walking away from light, the shadow (darkness) is in front of them. Lastly- is making the grave mistake of coming out publicly against the truth/ God's people instead of leaving respectfully, quietly and with dignity. This could easily be defined biblically as both seditious and potentially heretical. Its too bad that you possibly may be in a congregation with certain negative personal/ pastoral dynamics. My recommendation is...find another Apostolic church and sit down with the Pastor. Lay it all out there. Doctrinally, there is nothing out there that is as biblically sound and accurate as the Apostolic doctrine. I trust this helps.
