A marvel of hydraulic enginerring, expertly narrated and filmed. What an amazing concentration of industrial archeology. Thank you.

@@malcolmrichardson3881 the area is amazing, I’m going to go back and do the high peak trail, not for the channel as it’s not canal related but I’d love to see some more. I may do a search for the soughs as well

So, so glad you managed to go back and film all this, as you'd hoped you might from the last visit..! Brilliant vid Steve. Makes me very happy to see how folk do respect and admire/maintain these fabulous machines of our collective industrial heritage... Amazing engineering... Am just in awe of what was achieved, with the technology of the day. Thank you.! Am watching again, right now... 😄😎

@@25mileswest86 thank you, yes as soon as I got home I inquired about it, as if fate was on my side the latest edition of the Cromford canal magazine had dropped on my door the day before I filmed the last visit. When I got home and read it they had all the open days listed!

It really is an impressive engine, almost spiteful in how good it is!

The 1 thing that I hate about your videos is that they are forever showing me what I missed! 😡😱😂 Never got to experience this marvellous relic of bygone days on my 1 stay in the Matlock area - but at least now in my dotage I can visit from my rocking chair. 😜😊 It's always interesting as to how such huge pieces of machinery were moved to seemingly inaccessible locations. In the old mining areas around my own present home, it always boggles the mind that huge boilers, pumps and stamper heads were somehow dragged up and down heavily forested steep rocky crags to mines that initially had only horse and bullock team access at best before future development brought today's roads and railways. 🤔

Matlock is a pretty cool area, I only recently visited the area for the first time but love it up there, the Derbyshire dales and the peak district is stunning. It’s mad isn’t it, I always think the same when visiting Tin mines in Cornwall, it’s so rugged and they got these huge engines in

Hello Sir , Have you got any plans to visit the abandoned part of the Lancaster canal that goes to Kendal soon ?

Not at the moment, it’s one for the future but I’ve got a bunch of projects that’ll probably see me through the year. Maybe next summer

Another example of what happens when the trees are allowed to run riot and obscure the detail. One of your best episodes with clear explanations by the resident engineer of the politics at the time and how the issues were resolved. Some say that we are still coming put of the mini ice age and global warming may only partly to blame for climate change. What is very impressive is the enthusiasts' willingness and ability to restore our industrial heritage in what are straightened economic times and the self harm from denying access to cheap power at world prices from our own new gas fields..

I believe the same, I’m not denying global warming, I believe we have sped things up but the planet goes through these stages, the problem is the next stage is the big freeze!
