I was in South Lebanon from April 82 to Nov 82 with UNIFIL, I was on a checkpoint outside Tibnine on the morning of June 6th and it was quiet but a glance to the hills further south told a different story, dust, clouds of it and the distant sound of track vehicles rumbling towards us, the first tank appeared around the corner a 100yds or so away and stopped, levelling his barrel in our direction he approached the checkpoint, we pushed back the tank stops to let them through, there was nothing else we cud do, as they moved forward they were slightly aggressive but when they seen we were Irish their mood changed and they all started shouting at us about Guinness and George Best, a lot of them were American Jews who came home to fight and they were going tru all day, quite an experience for a young 20yr old Irishman but as the weeks went by we were in contact with them on a daily basis and we began to ignore them, we gave them no respect and we didn't take their bullying from them, one American Israeli officer described us as the most pig headed he ever met and hes probably right but the Christians who were backed by Israel were a different story, they killed several of us and they hated the UN especially the Irish, they were not allowed tru the UN zone if they were armed but when the Israelis came in they brought them with them, it was Haddad and his men who carried out the Sabra and Shatila massacre and they passed tru our checkpoints going back to the south after they done it and that was hard to swallow, a lot of our lads didn't like that but we had to grin and bear it. I went back out again from Oct 84 to May 85 and this time the Israelis were going the other way but they left Lebanon in ruins as did the PLO and the Syrians, I think the Lebanese people are a lot like the Irish, it took us 600yrs to get rid of the British from occupying our Country the Lebanese are still living with occupational forces who threaten Israel on a daily basis, it's not wise to poke an angry bear, luv Lebanon and its people and I wish them peace and prosperity in the future.

Forest Dweller PLOs were using civilians as shields, that’s how brave they are hiding and using civilians to protect them. They learned this from the Russians. PLO are not Lebanese. The PLO exerted their military power (Iran proxy) over Lebanon. Lebanon at the time could not push out the PLO, until Lebanese forces that were sick and tired of the PLO’s usurpation allied with the Israelis so the PLO can be kicked out of their own county. Remnants of PLO morphed into Fatah and Hezbollah (Proxy soldiers of Iran). This hatred that exists there will endure more and lead to continued blood shed.
