Legendary playwright, composer and director Mbongeni Ngema has died at the age of 68. Ngema who rose to fame for his award-winning musical, Sarafina, died in a car accident while returning from a funeral in the Eastern Cape last night. His family says he was a passenger.
The icon made several hit songs such as Stimela Sase Zola which portray the hardships and struggles of black mine workers during apartheid. Ngema’s career spans over five decades.
