…… Larry Bird is easily the greatest all around player in NBA history , hands down . You can’t name one player better than Bird in 2 out of 5 categories…. Shooting , passing , rebounding , free throw and the three pointer . And , anyone who dosent have Larry Bird top 5 , never saw him play or just dosent know basketball .

The rarest trait with Bird was that he only held on to the ball more than two seconds, only when he posted up a mismatch. This made it easier for his teammates to get involved. He was also a master at off ball movement, rarely seen with ball dominant stars. I rate Bird above everyone except MJ.

His only weakness was his health. He played that body out. He was the toughest SOB… Sadly, availability is a necessary ability. Just imagine what could’ve been, if Larry hadn’t hurt his fingers before coming to the NBA, his back making a driveway for his mom in the offseason, and his ankles/feet wearing those crap shoes they used to play in… If today’s medical technology existed back then, he’d have probably been great for 20 years. We’ll never know.

The era he played in only strenghen his case. Imagine Bird playing today... when no one is allowed to even _touch_ him. Bird would average 35 points a game in todays league. Sure, hes not fast... but when you force everyone else to play the game at yourn speed that doesnt matter. Just look at Luka if you want a modern day reference. And with Birds skill, aim, IQ, tenacity and absolute murderous intent I dont see anyone stopping him if he played in todays league.
