In this lecture, we will analyse the application of Positivism in the Sociological domain. Positivism as an approach advocates the use of scientific method in the domain of sociological studies. Positivism was first advocated by the founding father of sociology Auguste Comte in his book "The course on positive philosophy". Positivists regard human behaviour as static and predictable and hence advocates for building of universal theories. Positivists like Comte, Durkheim and Spencer advocated for value neutrality, objectivity, causation, quantitative method in sociology.
