For the lechuza pots without the removable insert, you can get a siphon pump and feed it through the water meter section of the planter and pump out all the water in the reservoir. That way you can flush your pots ☺ and the siphon pumps are pretty cheap. Hope this helps x

I agree with everything in this video if you aren’t loving soil anymore and you are an anthurium lover I highly highly recommend lechuza pon and lechuza planters bc my life has been amazing since not having to water my plants every 3 days or actually not even having to worry about them has been very nice!

I've been using it for hoya, begonia and philodendron. All seem to like it. The only plant that died on me was an alocasia. When the fertilizer expired on the substrate (6 months), I just used my hydroponic solution for LECA. So far, no issues. Thanks for sharing your experience.

All my anthuriums LOVE pon but I have noticed with my anthuriums when I didn’t use a lechuza pot they stayed too wet with a reservoir unless I put a layer of leca down on the bottom first so that was a learning curve but I got it now but now all my anthuriums are in lechuza planters I just have my less loved plants in different set ups 😂😂💯

Just think of it as a very airy soil. For my smaller pots I water about once a week. For larger pots I wait about two weeks. You can usually tell by the weight and if the top stones look dry.

If you have a window, maybe consider a portable a/c unit that can vent out the window to cool the room on really hot days. Just be sure to put it where it won’t blow directly on the plants of course. Might even find a a good used one on FB marketplace or something. Best wishes 🌱💕

Hello. First of all, I love how informative your videos are. You helped bring my plant game up :) Just wondering if you use self watering wicks on all plants in pon? Also, the water in my city contains calcium & mag (hardiness level is hard), so I'm wondering if I should still get CAL-MAG? Lastly, please let us know how you recycle your pon (what you do when you re-use it to pot a new plant). Thank you so much!

Yesterday evening that room was 86F 😅

Hiya, I wanted to ask what you think of neem oil on your plants, specifically the velvet aroids?? Thanks 😊
@ThePlantsMeow
@ThePlantsMeow 3 жыл бұрын
I honestly can’t stand the smell of neem so I don’t use it 😂 I find dr. Bronners peppermint castille soap has the same suffocating effect on bugs as neem. I also add some rubbing alcohol in for good measure. If you do use neem I recommend using it when after the sun goes down and when temps are low. You risk burning your plants with high heat and high light. Also, make sure to water your plants before using it so you don’t risk them absorbing too much and damaging their leaves.
@justiceg1789

@@ThePlantsMeow The reason I like the idea of neem is because it can be used as a systemic pesticide. Do you have any idea for what might work in an inorganic substrate specifically pon?

@@justiceg1789 True. Again any ideas for a systemic pesticide??? 🤞
@ThePlantsMeow
@ThePlantsMeow 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly I don’t think you can actually have a systemic in pon because of how porous the substrate is. Systemic like Bonide granules would just wash right out. Of course it still might work because it could fall into the cracks of the rocks but I would recommend you use it more often. I have honestly started using beneficial mites as a preventative. You don’t even notice them because of how tiny they are and they have ate all my spider mites 😂👏🏼

Do you have to water more often that in a soil mix with Pon? I was imagining u would, since it’s mostly rocks, with nothing to hold a bit of moisture?
@ThePlantsMeow
@ThePlantsMeow 3 жыл бұрын
It holds more moisture than you would think. I was using airy soil mixes before this so it hasn’t changed my watering schedule much. The one thing I’m more confident in is that I won’t overwater my plants. I think another reason it retains more water (along with pockets in the rocks) is the humidity. If you ever look at pon in a clear pot you can see all the condensation. While it is normal for plastic pots I would say that in terracotta I would assume you would dry out way faster than normal. Especially since it is wicking away the moisture and not allowing that condensation to develop.

@ThePlantsMeow
@ThePlantsMeow 3 жыл бұрын
Zeolite helps the mix maintain its ideal PH balance but I would say you could absolutely use the bonsai mix. The only drawback is the bonsai mix’s I’ve seen are actually more expensive and they use Akadama instead of pumice, which will break down in time.

What fertilizer can I use with pon? I know the pon has a slow release fertilizer, but what do you use after that? Can I use all type of fertilizer or only hydroponic fertilizer? If I have clear pots, can I wait to water until I can't see any watermarks/condantions or is that to dry? Thank you for your awsome videos:)

If you don’t have a reservoir you can still use a slow release. Other than that any fertilizer will do as long as it’s a good balanced one. In hydroponics they have to supplement for every nutrient because leca has none. Pon will hold onto nutrients until your plant needs it and acts more like a soil. I haven’t tested out clear pots but I would pick up your pot and see how it feels. If it is very light but has condensation I would say don’t wait. 😊

Will do! Elvira is almost ready so I will make sure to record it. I’ve already recorded myself taking pollen from her 🥰

I was thinking of trying pon when everyone was making videos trying it...then 6 months later people are complaining of root mealies. Still fun to watch though

No root mealies here! Could be diy pon that hasn’t been properly sterilized? I know Lechuza had their own process for creation and cleaning of their product.

@@ThePlantsMeow not sure. The last KZbinr I watched actually bought lechuza and still got root mealies.

You should turn your mic volume up and the pop up sound effect down. Kinda struggled to hear you with my phone turned up and ask that popping got annoying at the pots part. I stopped watching at that point. Just some feedback :)

Also when do you trim the inflo on your anthuriums?
@ThePlantsMeow
@ThePlantsMeow 3 жыл бұрын
If it is an anthurium that I don’t want to spend energy on an inflorescence (like one with not many leaves or one that is not the most healthy) I trim as soon as I see them budding out from the petiole. You can really do it at any stage. For established plants I leave the inflorescence on until it completely dies off so that my beneficial insects can eat the pollen. 😊
