Lectern Based Potion Brewing Station 🧪 | Java 1.21+ Redstone Tutorial

Love this design, just came across it today, had to build it. Just a note in 1.20 (and possibly earlier), the circuit, as built, appears to be directional. When built west-facing it will not work correctly. This appears to due to the update order of the comparator at position 14 when it unlocks. It seems that when the input signal is 1 (page 14 selected), the comparator output remains 0 for an extra tick. This results in both 15 and 14 being fired, though only the dropper at 15 gets a chance to trigger, as the comparator is locked again immediately by the powered block adjacent to the redstone line. (I validated this by placing pistons in front of the torches, and removing the blocks above, I also tried all other orientations, but only west seems to be affected)

i had build it with my own system that pulls potions after they are finished in creative but after i had finished it on server facing W-E instead of E-W comparator somehow fires dispenser 8 instead of 7, 1 - 5 are ok 8 is ok but with 9 it fires 10 again it sucks i have to dig up another room to build it in different direction

@@Scorp0102 before you dig up/rebuild, you can try extending the comparator line by one module. This fixed the directional issue for me. I can try walking you through the changes if you like.

@@Ultinuc in my testing, yes, I only had issues when built west-facing. If you are having the same issue, but not west-facing, my fix (Posted on Rexx'x Discord) may still work for you.

Hey Rexx, really well done build. For anyone curious, this still works in v1.19.60 on Bedrock Edition. The book however, needs to be 30 pages long due to the double page book system on bedrock.

this is really confusing, why does the title of this video say 1.20? 1.20 was released today, this video is from 4 years ago. to make matters worse i first heard of lectern redstone while 1.20 was being developed so naturally assumed it was a new feature, only for my sister to condescend to me that its been in the game for as long as the lectern itself. why the hell has nobody been using lectern redstone?! I absolutely love this build and it works amazingly. The only problem I’m having is for whatever reason when I try to brew the potion of the turtle master it just gives me phantom membranes and makes potions of slow falling

Awesome tutorial. Dou you see a way to split the terminal from the storage part? Guess I could extend both signals, the lectern and the start button, easily. But you mentioned it would only work with a wooden button for the reset? This means I gotta get a specific pulse extender working? I would like to have the terminal in my storage room, but the brewing storage some levels below. Gonna se if I can get that going. Any tipps are highly appreciated. :D

Hey :) Since this machine uses a single lectern for selecting the ingredients, it only really works with up to 15 ingredients. :/ Expanding it with the same interface would not work unfortunately. I guess the easiest option would be to just choose the 15 ingredients you most likely need and modifying the book and droppers to match. :D

Having problems with this. Seems to be calling some right items some wrong item or no item at all. Page 1 calls fine. Pages 2,3 & 4 all call item 4. Page 5 calls fine. Page 6 & 7 dont call anything, Pages 8-9 work fine Pages 10,11 & 12 call item 12, Pages 13,14 & 15 are fine. Any ideas? Only thing I can think off is that I have mirrored the design. Would that have an impact on it? What do I need to change?

Hi, I've found out if you press the button when the lectern is on fermented spider eye before loading the new water bottles, it loads the spider eye first, so the nether wart is clogged if you click the button for loading the new water bottles to make the potion of weakness. But you can take the second nether wart that goes in the brewing stand manually. If you want, you can just make the dropper of the dragon breath into dropper of fermented spider eye, and just put the water bottles yourself into the brewing stand, press the button for the fermented spider eye and then use the lectern for redstone/gunpowder.

Really love the idea, but it doesn't work in 1.17.40 Once I select a page, it makes correct potion but then it keeps adding ingredients on its own trying to make other potions. What do I do? Could someone look into this? Plus, because the book now show 2 pages at once, I found that i can't select the second page's potion. I tried adding blank pages in-between each so only 1 shows at a time (which seems to be better)

I used to have this build and it’s nice unfortunately they changed bedrock book and 2 pages open at same time. Don’t there will be a fix since you can’t select one page.

Nothing should have changed in 1.16.2 that affects this brewing station. Check the dark blue circuit again for any mistakes, maybe it's that one!

Eyo I'm having some slight trouble with this. When I hit the button to recieve the bottles, It only drains the first bottle and not the other 2. What seems to be wrong there? I have the inputs extended out to turn the build sideways, and likewise the input is the same.

Heya, have you made sure to use a wooden button? Stone buttons have a slightly shorter activation duration, so that might be the cause. Hope this helps!

Hmm.. my guess is that your book either has the wrong number of pages or that you didn't put your items into the droppers in the same order also shown in the video. Hope this helps!

Can you combine this with your other auto potion brewer with an added function of specifying exactly how many to brew and of multiple types? So if I wanted 15 health potions, 12 poison potions, 1 invisibility potion and 3 fire resistance, I would input that into the machine and be able to come back later to find exactly that inside a chest. It should be able to do that without the player needing to walk to separate machines for each potion type. You walk up to one machine and input what you want and how many and it automatically brews the potion types you want and the exact number of potions. I hope the idea is clear enough for you to understand. It would be awesome if you could pull it off! ❤

I have and sadly it doesn't work in minecraft bedrock since the book and quill shows 2 pages at once compared to how it is on pc. I'm not even sure how to try to adapt it for this problem.

@@RexxStone I thought that too and made made a blank page between each item to get to 30 pages. But when selecting the ingredient and pressing the button it dispensed one of everything else behind the selected ingredient.

Had a look into this one and the problem on bedrock is that the outputs further down the line from the selected one fire briefly when pressing the button adding several ingredients. Seems to be a problem with all red coders I have tried in bedrock. You can fix this by using pistons on the outputs then using repeaters and a button to power the droppers through the block the currently selected piston has pushed up. Problem is this makes the design 3 blocks taller and 2-3 blocks wider and is somewhat more expensive. It also moves the chests for ingredients higher a couple of blocks. Although with a bit of tweaking you may be able to shrink the design a bit as I've only had a quick play around with it.
