Lectric sold 7,000 Lectric XP Trike in the first 4 months which is a huge success. However, I decided not to buy one. I tell you why in the video.
On this channel we test and review ebikes and accessories. Its our goal to help you find the perfect ebike. When we review an electric bike, we don't simply ride it once and make a video, we ride it for 50-100 miles to get familiar with all it has to offer, then we make a video. But we don't stop there, we will make follow up videos as we continue to ride.

This bike is PERFECT for the handicapped and people of any age with balance concerns. And your concerns do not seem to apply to most. But for someone who just wants a mobility scooter and whose primary concerns are not an enjoyable, safe bike ride, this and other Etrikes are likely not the best choice. A couple of simple points about your concerns. 1. Tires. These tires are perfectly sized for this bike. You may not realize that 2-wheel bikes have to distribute their weight over only 2 wheels while a trike distributes their weight over 3. So, a trike with 3 wheels does not necessarily need fatter tires. And this trike is not heavy. They are a nice size, not to thin, not to wide. Actually, I was surprised how wide they are and how well they perform. This bike can easily handle 'soft' surface conditions and the trike's powerful motor will power it through just about any typical terrain. By the way, those huge fat tires increase drag and ultimately range. And require larger motors and batteries. This trike is perfectly configured. 2. Range and Range Anxiety Range is actually quite good, surprisingly good, especially for someone who pedals along. I believe in PAS 1m which is likely adequate for most, will have a range beyond 60 miles. The bike only draws 1 amp in PAS 1 when you peddle along with it, with speed in a range of 7-10 miles per hour. Electic bikes use most battery power when accelerating so accelerating gently will extend range. For someone who is going on a long ride with lots of stops and starts, using PAS 1 for starting from a stop is highly recommended. In any case, Lectric sells extra batteries are reasonable prices, and it takes just seconds to swap out the battery. 3. Suspension The bike seat has a shock absorber in the stem which smooths out the bumps a bit. This bike does not need front suspension in my opinion. And I do have a high end 2-wheel Specialized hybrid electric bike (which I can no longer drive, unfortunately) that has front suspension. The bike also has the ability to lock the suspension. I had tested it both ways over many surfaces and there was barely a difference. This bike is comfortable over bumps in its current configuration. Of course, a memory foam seat cover might add additional comfort to some in bumpy conditions like what you have to deal with. And of course, lowering the tire pressure a bit will also contribute to a more comfortable ride. My conclusion is that this bike is meant to typically be peddled in PAS 1 with speed in a range of 7-10 miles per hour. For those who cannot pedal much, PAS 1 is still the best/safest choice. And it operates extremely well and efficiently in this mode. Above 10 mph, there is no need to peddle (because the bike has no gears). I chose this bike for numerous reasons, but driving fast is not one of them. And I absolutely want to peddle 100% of the time if I am able to. I am in a relatively flat area, with just a few small bridges. I do switch to PAS 2 to go over them. Ultimately, I am not surprised by your conclusions and those of others. BUT ask someone who is handicapped or with balance issues, and I am sure they will confirm my conclusions, that this IS a perfect bike for its intended users. And this is only my opinion but anyone who is handicapped or has balance issues should not be driving ANY trike at high speeds. And I suspect typical users are generally NOT in a rush to get anywhere, and just want to enjoy the ride. I sure your wife will enjoy whatever you ordered! Happy rides!!

I really appreciate the detailed feedback. I'm sure the Lectric XP would have worked fine for casual rides in our neighborhood, but she also wants to join our group rides from time to time so we felt this other brand was better suited for multiple roles. I do wish we could have tested an XP Trike though. It may have changed our mind about it.

CORRECTION TO MY ORIGINAL POST: With regard to fat tires, I stated: By the way, those huge fat tires increase drag and ultimately range. and meant to say... By the way, those huge fat tires increase drag and ultimately REDUCE range. | | ALSO, I wanted to clarify why you can't really peddle above 10 mph. Above about 9 1/2 mph, there is virtually no resistance in the peddling - so there is really no need to peddle at that point as it is uncomfortable to even do so without resistance. If you have ever had a bike chain fall out of off its sprockets, you should understand exactly what I mean - there is absolutely no resistance. In any case, this trike is a pleasure to ride in PAS 1 in the 6-9 MPH range and gives a nice and very safe workout to the rider. Start acceleration from a stop is gentle and smooth, comfortable and safe. And minimal electricity is being expended from the battery, typically only 1amp in PAS 1 which is one of the reasons why the range in PAS 1 is so high. The other is that whenever you accelerate from a full stop or any accelerate if you are already moving, minimal battery power is being used in PAS 1. There are many factors that affect range. I believe the data provided by Lectric is reasonably accurate. I have only had my XP Trike for a few days and expect to exceed the ranges they provide. I am on track to likely reach around 60 miles of range after my 1st charge. I thought I might need to purchase a 2nd batter for long rides, but it will absolutely not be necessary.

The chain guard support mounting to the bike is thin metal in easy Ben's if your foot gets caught on it. I've had to fix my wife's three times now. I wouldn't definitely not recommend riding 2:55 them bikes on trails with potholes. The tires aren't big enough well as the fork no spring suspension in them. They're meant for the streets them blacktop and cement sidewalks. That's the only good thing about them bikes is the frame as well as the price I don't know if they came out with a cover for that bike yet with there logo on it yet? But maybe in the future they will produce aftermarket front fork with suspension bigger tires like on their XP premium bicycles and sell a bigger watt motor.
@StephenMartinez-ve1ey
@StephenMartinez-ve1ey 11 ай бұрын
I wouldn't recommend buying one of them they got better ones with suspension front forks and they go faster without pedals assistance and the bigger tires cost more but 14 miles an hour top speed getting across a six-lane highway with the turning lane in the that the highway is a 50 mile an hour zone very challenging on that bicycle. But they're going to have to build a stiffer metal front chain guard mount to the bicycle like I stated the one that's on it now is very thin and Bend's easily

I am 80 years old and only have one leg., I bought the to be able to get round my 1 acre yard to do chores. A wheelchair does not get around very easy in the dirt. I took it put out of the box and put together in my wheelchair. Charged the battery and rode it around with no problems. Then I built a toe bar for my wheelchair and hook it up to the trike and put my tools in the basket, ride to where I have to work and use the wheelchair. Works great for what I need. I rode it on the street and it is plenty fast enough for me. I my younger days I was a drag car racer and 138 mph in the 1/4 mile so I have had my speed thrills years ago. For me it think is a great product for the price.

This Trike comes STANDARD with a 500 watt motor. Virturally ALL other negative points can be upgraded at Walmart or other local discount bike shop. His review is not without merit, but I still bought the Lectric XP Trike with the custom seat option. The features I felt set it over and above the competition were price, rear wheel drive, locking hygralic brakes and apperant sturdy construction. My wife and I are over 85 now. I have COPD and my wife has bad knees. We live on 9 acres 11 miles from town. With this Trike we can visit our neighbors, get the mail and do chores around the place.

A late 60's guy pulled up to the picnic table at the Riverwalk with one a few days ago & hung out for 20 minutes or so. He's had it for two weeks, gone 200 miles so far & is absolutely ecstatic with it. He said the bumps didn't bother him & the speed easily took him as fast as he cared to go on an e-trike. He demonstrated how easily it folded up to stick in the back of his car, though it does weigh 65 lbs. The motor isn't on the hub, it's closer to the pedals, though I wouldn't call it a mid-drive. It's a pretty ingenious design actually, & a very well made e-trike. They'll sell a million of them, easily. Very much looking forward to the review of the one you chose to keep secret for some reason, once it arrives.

Again I say...the Lectric trike is great and an awesome value. I have found that the real battery range exceeds the claim from Lectric. 👍 The motor has plenty of power but the trike actually pedals very easily without any motor assist. I own 4 bikes from Lectric and would definitely recommend their bikes. I am a very picky consumer and have put Lectric bikes through many miles of riding. They are great bikes, an awesome value and their customer support is the best I have ever experienced. 👍👍👍

Thoughtful video with many helpful comments as well. I’m 83 with Covid-damaged lungs. My trike makes riding possible for me. I love it! We live on the prairie so hills are fairly gentle and I can use PAS 1 most of the time and PAS 2 briefly in places. I average 55 miles on a single charge which is beyond my expectations. (I also fly drones and company estimates for time in the air are usually greatly exaggerated). I average about 9-10 mph and have never had a rear wheel raise on corners at that speed, though I’m sure making sharp turns would do that. My wife just likes the scenery and the wind in her hair so she uses mostly throttle and gets around 30 mph. Hope this user input is helpful to some of you 😊

Walmart and the Depot are 5 miles away in gentle hills, I had almost 50 Miles of PAS 4 (that evened out my speed :) ) and the SOC meter was just under 50%. I think this trike needs 2 speed gearing, because at 12MPH, the pedals don't always keep up going down grades and my foot tries to slip off the pedals when I again 'pick up the load'.

Fair enough comments but it sounds like you've got very specific needs. The Lectric trike is selling well because it appeals to a lot of customers. The build quality is good and the price is outstanding. I've watched the reviews. Battery life seems to be fine. It climbs hills better than most (rear wheel drive probably helps a lot with that). Front suspension? To me that just seems like a strange thing to have on a trike. If it were intended for trail riding fine, but it's not. It's going to be ridden on paved surfaces. To me front suspension has never seemed effective for the types of terrain you're talking about. That's probably why we don't see road bikes and cruisers with suspension. The benefits are minimal.

Buyer beware of our experience, I’d Look elsewhere, it’s been a nightmare of regrets dealing with 2 damaged trike so far. Video & screenshot documented from delivery to discovery to dealing with customer service. Lectric customer service is charming but they suggest all the shipping damage is normal and is the responsible of the buyers. Lectric will send parts and a list of bike shops if YOU need help with the install. However all the shops I called want more than Lectric willing to pay to fix their problems. But, in my opinion they FAILED US by pushing their problem on us. Biggest regret of our lives for my wife & myself. We were so exited. Now it’s become a life full anxiety because Lectric supervisor just delivered their dark threat, we will send out 1 more replacement and that’s it. They’ll send parts to rebuild your new trikes only, that’s it. A new reconditioned trike put together by an 82 yr old or hire one of the bike shops to install parts. Absolutely the worst.

1. suspension fork does not mean smooth ride all the time, fat tire is what smoothest out the bumps. Besides rigid fork makes more predictable handling when the trike is loaded up with heavier weight; especially under heavy braking. 2. The motor power output on the XPTrike is programmed (not for speed, but) for torque, to move heavier rider, to conquer hills. 3. Battery range is no problem if the rider actually put in some effort in pedaling. 4. 20x4" tires will weight more and require more battery & motor output to move. XP trike is a benchmark for e-trike market, no other manufacturer even come close to its performance or value.

The front part that holds the chain guard to the frame is made very cheap and easy to bend if your foot gets caught on it. Definitely not made for the trails. I've noticed other three wheelers being produced with front-end suspension well as the seat post well as seat and with the bigger tires. Also I noticed their three-wheelers go a lot faster than 14 miles an hour both bikes without pedal assistance. My wife only in our neighborhood on the blacktop streets. The fenders as well as the support for the fenders thin metal.

Top speed is less important to me than low speed torque to stop and start on hills at car shows & flea markets. I like the bigger wheels and fatter tires but these add more weight. Hydraulic brakes and parking brake are a must. Would also like a key lock so when left unattended for a couple minutes at a car show or flea market someone can't ride off with it. My wife is 73 years old, no longer drives and can no longer handle her RadWagon4. I am 79 and have a RadRover with a trailer and a pair of electric unicycles. We have a Subaru Forester that will hold either EUC plus the LectricTrike, folded up and still have room for one person in the back seat. Well, I can't also fit $300 worth of groceries in the car at the same time with someone in the back seat. So, it doesn't check all the boxes, but it does check more boxes than any other trike I have seen. She is not interested in bike rides that last longer than 45 minutes one way unless it is to see a friend. At about 70 lbs without the battery, but including accessories, we can still lift the trike into the Forester without a ramp. I will however try out some positioning aids and tie downs. We are not considering using the roof rack for this. The hitch receiver is 1-1/4 inch, so that is a non starter. I will make a spacer to fit between the spare tire and the floor board, its starting to sag.

I bought this trike…and it works great for riding around the neighborhood, to the post office, etc. my only concern is the low speed. I get about 12 mph either in pedal mode or PAS mode. 15 - 20 would be better. If I have to outrun a chasing dog, I just can’t get the speed. I carry mace, but I’d rather be able to boost my speed a bit to leave the area.

I bought one last month because I no longer have a DL and things are over a mile away. I live in an area with medium terrain (hilly roads). You are spot on with the condition of those roads and sidewalks (where permitted). Basically our Bike Lanes include the GUTTER. That has a 5 degree slope. Add the roads crown and the lean on a trike is OMG. Oh and that lane is next to traffic at 40-50 speed limit. one tiny wrong twitch. I think people do not understand 'Peak' enough. That is what helps you Start Moving (and makes for a flashy number in ads). 500W (and top speeds) is baked into many Vehicle codes. BTW Great preentation

It helps a little. But when the bike hits a bump, the vibrations will go thru the bike, handle bars, your hands etc. The springs in your saddle help you butt feel a little more comfortable. I would prefer suspension forks to help prevent the shockwave from going beyond the front wheel.

My weight is close to 300 lbs, the trike comes with a shock post. It helps smooth things out. The only thing for me is it's length, living in an apartment it's a bit hard to get in & out of the elevator. Other than that it is letting me go out on rides the pedal assist makes for very easy pedaling. I can understand that every person has different needs & this may not be the right trike for everyone.

No snow in Florida, but I would say three wheels are better than two in the winter. No risk of hitting a slick spot and the bike coming out from under you. More wheels would also be more contact points on the ground for stability.

I got a fairly high end recreation/mobility scooter a couple of years ago and use it quite of outside of course. It is a 4 wheel scooter with 950w motor with 2 group 24 deep cycle batteries. Range is about 25 miles at 10 mph. Anyway Ingot that because of my arthritis in my knees and now my hip. Also have CHF that leaves me out of breath riding my regular bikes in a block or two. So I understand that E-bikes or trikes can help you exercise without straining you to much. I’m 310 lbs and most of the bikes I have been looking at have 500 watt motors and I should have 750w motor. If Ingot this trike it will be for exercise and ride wife my wife again. Also I don’t want a fat tire bike and those tires use more energy to propel them. So those tires should be great for that trike.

Exactly right about the front forks that bike rides very rigid and you feel every bump in the road & potholes. Hopefully they come out like I stated with a suspension front for fork. I'm already going to purchase a bigger motor for my wife's well as I'm looking for a suspension front fork that will fit it But I do like their frames very well put together but I only wish they had aftermarket bigger rims and tires like I stated like the XP premium bicycles they build I have two of them ex premium bicycles. One for my granddaughter for Christmas well that's one for myself. Top speed without pedal existence in level 5 I can only get the bicycle to go up to 20 miles an hour. And that's in 7th gear. But the bigger fatter tires make a world of difference would make for a better smoother ride on the 3-wheeler. But I do like the back support seat just wish they would make one with the springs with it. Like the deluxe seat I paid extra for my bike my granddaughter's got hers included with the bike or her two months before Christmas. It's hard to ride a three-wheeler on the sidewalk in my neighborhood too many dog walkers as well as little kids riding dirt bikes sickles on the sidewalks.

Keep in mind that motor ratings from one company to another may vary in their meaning. Lectric rates their motor at 500 watts BUT also states that it peaks at 1092 watts. I have looked at many, many trikes and trike companies and all the others only list a single rating, like 500 watts, 750 watts, 1000 watts etc. Lectric is the only company that shows the motor's peak performance wattage. FWIW, the actual wattage used will typically not be all that high during normal cycling except while accelerating at a high rate of speed or when driving up an incline, REGARDLESS of the motor's rated wattage. On level smooth surfaces, minimal power is need to maintain speed regardless of the motor's size. I own a large, heavy eight-cylinder vehicle yet on the highway, the fuel economy of my car is as good or better than many smaller, economical 4 cylinder cars. The same basic principle applies to trikes. I typically ride with PAS 1 in my area, and it is more than sufficient for level roads. I do peddle 100% of the time, typically at speeds in the 7-9 MPH range. PAS 5 has a lot more power obviously for aggressive accelerations for those that want or need to accelerate quickly, a lot more, yet I find I never need to use PAS, 3, 4 or 5. I do switch to PAS 2 for going over inclines when I drive over the small and medium size bridges in my area. PAS 2 is more than sufficient to get me over them, and my riding speed even increases going up them. There is no doubt in my mind that the motor (and battery) is perfectly sized for this trike for most. As far as tires go, for a firmer ride with increased drive times, overinflate the tired a bit. I increased mine by 5 PSI over their recommended tire pressure. For a smoother ride with slightly decreased drive times, underinflate them s bit. In my area, suspension would be useless most of the time because the roads in my area are flat and smooth, but I realize there are many areas where suspension could help soften the ride a bit where the roads are not the best. But bike suspension at best only does a fair job in general. And helps the most when at higher speeds, speeds which I don't typically drive at. But it is of course a personal choice. Frankly, I am not sure more than a few in the target group for the Lectric trike who would be using this trike would need any of the upgrades you mention. And I do fall into that group. But ultimately there is a big difference between need and want. I think the trike is perfect as is, at least for me and in the area I live in. This is not the first trike I have owned or tried but it is the best one beyond any doubt. I am impressed with its performance, which has far exceeded my expectations in every way, and I would not change anything. Once you do the upgrades to yours, please let us know your thoughts, good luck and hope they work as you expect them to.

The biggest legal size motor in the United States is 750w. But not all 750w motors are the same. You also need to look at the Torque rating. Torque is the power to climb hills or carry heavy loads. 80nm is about the average. Less does not perform very well on hills or grass. 90nm or above would be best for a steep hills, grass, off roading etc. The new Addmotor E-319 which just launched has 750w motor and 90nm of torque. Its the strongest trike I am aware of.

The 330 has 80nm of torque, the Bison comes standard with 65nm but they offer a free upgraded controller that makes it 80nm for anyone that asks. The bison took a while to assemble, I don't know how Addmotor ships theirs. I like the battery storage better on the Bison, never cared for batteries under the seat. The Bison balance seems good with no concerns. The 330 has 3" tires, the bison has 4". The 330 has a half twist throttle which I prefer, the Bison has a thumb throttle. I hope this helps. Center drive which cost a lot more in. They have a differential in the back but it it does have a lot of power and the tires are almost 3 inches so if that should be A. Problem in it also has hydraulic breaks which the other ones don't have. It has a seat post that takes up most of the shock.

The bike is great for anyone and especially people with balance issues. I have 2 electric bikes and hands down they are worth more than I paid. Customer Service is top notch. The trike at 15 mph is ideal and no need for suspension especially with three wheels and an average 10mph speed. But, not everyone likes everything. The tires can be filled to a level which provides more stability. The bike tackles hills easily too. Rear two-wheel motor is powerful enough. I think since you didn't buy it. You are not really able to provide a substantial review. This is only your opinion without experience.

To each their own. I have owned six(6) E-Bikes in the last ten years. From the cheapest Chinese to some of the more expensive full suspension fat tire american brands. I also own a E-Bike trike. When you are trying to find an E-bike cost is always a factor. You spoke about fat tires for riding on the beach or sandy roads. Really, how often is that going to occur? Another factor with fat tire bikes is a thing called rolling resistance. Yes your E-bike has a larger battery output. Well, you are going to burn thru it. Smaller tires with higher compression has a lower rolling resistance. Also you can always add a better suspension seatpost and a better seat. Unless you are a heavier weight person, the 500 watt battery will serve you well as long as you are willing to pedal at a lower PAS. I purchased a Lectric trike because of an accident I had last July which has left me handicapped. I am looking forward to a greater range of mobility without the fear of falling!

In our streets in my Michigan aren't the best of roads to ride Ridgid bicycles on as well as small potholes cars have the right away our streets not bicycles we don't have bicycle Lanes. Getting crossed a six-lane highway the middle turning lane that the speed limit is 50 mi an hour very challenging on a bicycle that only goes 14 miles an hour top speed without pedal many people are handicapped as well as like I stated the front part of the chain guard metal that connects to the frame is very thin and easy Bends just from your foot. The fat tires on a rigid frame makes a world of difference on a bumpy ride. I wouldn't recommend that bicycle trail riding and we got plenty where I live in Michigan trails that is. Note there is no seat suspension. A groundbreaking and perhaps not very expensive addition would be suspension to the rear wheels. Good suspension is safer. statistics show that seniors are drawn to trikes. Why not cater to their best interests with quality rather than a cheap excuse.
