@@EbikeEscape I don't think you understand how revolutionary the software on this bike really is, you missed it completely...And it's the most impressive aspect of the bike...No matter what pedal assist mode you are in, using throttle only, it will keep going faster, up to 20 mph, meaning you can go decently fast, and get extreme range, by using minimum amps/watts..when you hit hills, to maintain speed, you might want to switch from 1 to 2 or 3 and then back to 1 or 2 depending on terrain and load....There is no need to go into 4 or 5 and use all those watts...Unless you have an xtreme load on the bike..No more going 7 mph to get extreme good range...I'd like to know for sure if that's the case...But, that is how I understand it..

I’ve had this bike for a month & I love it. I live in a very rural area so the closest grocery store is 12 miles away. We don’t have bike lanes so I’ve been taking gravel roads. It handles those roads so well. I did add some Flat Out to the tires for extra insurance. I may also change out the seat for better shock absorption, but I’m overall so happy with this. The throttle handles hills like a beast.

We found that Tannus Armor was a way better solution for non-competitive, non-racing situations - compared to sealants such as Stans or Slime. No messy clean up when you eventually need to remove your tire, no need to add sealant as it dries up over time inside your tire, and no leaks from your the air fill valve when it gets gummed up by the sealant.

Great review, thanks, I do have a question. I've never ridden an E-bike but wanted one for long range touring/camping. This one from Lectric with the dual batteries is the most affordable I've seen but one thing I've never seen any reviewer mention is what are they like to pedal WITHOUT any assist at all? I realize people buy E-bikes exactly for that pedal assist and if you're only traveling 20 to 40 miles, that's fine but what about longer rides, where you'd want to pedal as much as you can with no pedal assist and only use the motor for help on hills or heading into the wind?
@deerarebigdogs Жыл бұрын
Pedal assist 1 is very mild for if you want more range or exercise. Gotta keep in mind it weighs 75lbs so that kinda offsets the motor. It's not the same as a completely manual bike but it's definitely similar in terms of effort and speed. Riding with no assist is a lot like riding a normal geared bike if you only rode it in the wrong gear. It's perfectly doable but with a 75lb bike it's definitely more difficult and I wouldn't really recommend it. But if you're worried about getting stranded if the battery runs out, it's still perfectly ridable.

Would it be possible at all to add a set of adult stabilizing wheels to the rear at all (to any of the Lectric eBikes)? See, I’m disabled but still want to get an eBikes as a replacement for my car. I know that they make a trike but with my needs/wants Lectric’s XP Trike meets my medical needs, but fails in every other necessity I have. I need to be able to travel long distances[+100 miles, I live far away from college & work], carry school supplies/books for college, I live in Wisconsin so the weather changes a lot so I’d also need to be able to have everything I carry be put into a waterproof bag to avoid rain & snow running groceries, clothing, and even very expensive tech (MacBook, 2 iPad Pro, multiple devices for accommodations for my disabilities) Every bike that Lectric has does really well in either distance, cargo capacity, or accommodations, but none of them come close to enough of a sweet spot for all 3… unless I could add stabilizing wheels to a bike like this one.

Perhaps PA levels 4 & 5 might be highly beneficial when needing to peddle up the steepest of hills whilst not blowing an o-ring and thus turning up for work in need of a shower and a Power Nap. I live in the mountains, and just ordered one of these so that I can leave my car at home and make the 11 mile/18km, (22/36 round trip) commute to/from work. I am still capable of doing this on a peddle bike, but it takes a long time with several long steep hill grades to pull, and as suggested, l turn up in need of repairs. I anticipate the e-bike allowing me to leave the car home, still get a decent bit of cardio because I will always peddle 😅, yet not go into oxygen debt and sweat out all the salts, and, all while keeping the pace up so I don’t have to leave home in the middle of the night. Have you tried testing various PA levels on various hill grades? This is something I would appreciate seeing in reviews. I’ll find out soon enough though, my order is scheduled to deliver next week. Lectric is throwing in nearly $500 worth of accessories with both single and dual battery versions right now, so great time to buy if you are back & forth on the decision.

One month update: The XPedition has been running great, although with only a few minor hiccups. The second battery was lost in transit, but Lectric's customer support was on top of things when I contacted them via email. I got my second battery within a few days. Second hiccup is one that's affecting most if not all XPedition owners: Due to supply chain issues, the essentials package won't be shipped to customers til around end of April. Supply chain related delays I can deal with, but bear in mind it does make the derailleur vulnerable should the XPedition topple over on the side the derailleur is on. I do wish there was an included derailleur guard but considering I believe most XPedition owners will pick up the essenetials package, I understand why it wasn't included. Third issue: I'm unable to install the Tannus Amour. Maybe it's because Tannus is primarily for knobby tires and the XPedition uses street tires? Those non-issues aside (they're not dealbreakers, that's for sure), riding the XPedition is superb! Hydraulic brakes give me no issue about stopping power. Having the bike unlocked to Class III makes PAS 2 or 3 more than enough power for where I need to go. The adjustable handlebars solve the reach issue I kinda had with the 2.0. The cargo capacity gives me no qualms about grocery store trips now, especially once I order the XL pannier bags. Love my XPedition!

If you watch the conclusion you can see how Ryan (who is 6') fits on this ebike. I think there is a level of difficulty to adding a motor to a standard bike. @orson347 Жыл бұрын
Obviously, Lectric has hit at least a triple with this cargo bike and certainly for the price, it seems unbeatable. I have a reasonable amount of experience with the Tern GSD cargo bike and wonder how you would compare the two. The GSD cost 4-5 times as much as the Lectric XPedition, but with the GSD you get more high end components in the transmission, the brakes and the suspension. Also, you get the Bosch motors and batteries which are UL tested and certified. Further Tern bikes have to meet the European safety and quality standard established for cargo bikes and I would imagine that Lectric has not applied to have its bike certified in the same manner . While I imagine that this bike will sell well, the real test is how long it will last???
@EbikeEscape Жыл бұрын
Lectric is making strides towards UL certifying their products. And with the launch of the trike and the XPedition, have began DIN testing their frames. So while they are not on the same level as Tern in some categories, they are trying to bridge that gap a bit.

How do you find the geometry in terms of the how far forward the seat is compared to the pedals? I had the XP 2. 0 Step Thru and found the seat too far forward which made you feel like you were on a Unicycle with the pedals right under your seat. Even with the seat all the way back, my thighs and knees were cramped I I felt a lay back seat post would be needed. Pedaling didn't feel natural in this position and required more effort and caused more strain. (5ft9, 185lb, 40 year old rider) I couldn't get good leg extension with seat raised and moved to the rear. My other ebikes felt more natural in terms of relationship between pedals and seat. I felt the folding nature of the XP 2.0 caused them to have the seat post angle too verticle above the pedals instead of further back.
@deerarebigdogs Жыл бұрын
They don't have that specific dimension listed anywhere but I took a look at their website and on the XP the center of the pedals is directly below the tip of the seat, and on the Xpedition it looks like the pedals are offset in front of the seat. So it sounds like it would be a better fit. The Xpedition also has a comically long seat post if you extend it fully. I don't know if that was an issue for you with the XP but if it was, the Xpedition definitely does better there. Take a look at the photos on Lectric's website.

I think this will be my first cargo bike...mostly due to price. It will probably be between this, aventon around, and the radwagon4... This will let me see if I can adjust my behavior at a minimal investment overall... Beyond value is there a reason this is better than the other 2 I am considering?
@sundaydiver Жыл бұрын
I had the RadWagon 4 for two years as my daily. driver, and it just got stolen. I have no doubts about replacing it with the Lectric. Based on what I see here, the Lectric is superior in every single aspect, except for the boring color and the kickstand. The RadWagon has a motorcycle-like kickstand, yet still - that didn't prevent it from falling over (with my kid in the back) on soft ground once (nobody was hurt.) I found the RadWagon adequate, but I had a few gripes with it. Number One: the brakes. In my opinion, mechanical brakes have no business on any e-bike, but I begrudgingly accepted that reality considering the RadWagon was - by far - the most affordable cargo e-bike at the time. Unsurprisingly, the brakes required constant maintenance. I had to adjust them about once a month, and on a few occasions, I experienced sudden failures of one brake at a time. Not super-dangerous, but definitely not a great thing going up to 25mph with a kid in the back. Number Two: The RadWagon always felt overbuilt to me. It is incredibly heavy. With a child caboose and cargo racks installed, mine weighed about 100 lbs. The motor has adequate power, but the bike is unwieldy. Moving it around without motor assistance was like pushing a motorcycle around. I used to refer to it as my "two-wheeled pickup." With the disclaimer that I have yet to experience the Lectric Xpedition in person, I don't see anything here that would convince me to get the RadWagon instead. I looked at the Aventon Abound, too, but seeing it has mechanical brakes immediately kills it as a contender for me.

Calling those washers on the front fork torque arms is false advertisement they are not. There is no torque related to the front axle due to wheel bearings. Those washers are for alignment, placement, wear-protection, not torque arms at all. The torque goes through the welded, integrated brake-caliper mounting-brackets. First thing I upgraded on mine was to the Altus derailleur. Much improvement! Leads me to believe your test units are more precisely tuned for you to review. Real world delivery is much different!
@EbikeEscape Жыл бұрын
We have a lot of experience with the tourney derailleurs, so might have a bit more ability to adjust them. But we also completely agree, the Altus is a worth while upgrade. Has a bit larger adjustment range.

Is it normal for the motor to be that noisy?

Seems like (given the choice) - you'd probably pick up a XPedition over a RadWagon 4 if you had to buy one today...?
@EbikeEscape Жыл бұрын
That is a correct assumption. The 28ah batteries and Lectric's customer service are two things that we would almost have to go with.

@Ebike Escape what about between the adventon abound vs lectric xpedition? I love in a small town and would like to start getting some exercise and going to the store or taking my 5 year old to school etc. He would be in the bike mist the time and we do have several hills in town. Just not sure which one to get especially with Aventon giving a free second battery right now which helps with the gap between the dual battery on the abound

The loud sound, is it just in video or is it really that loud. That would get tiring to hear especially out on a joy ride.
@EbikeEscape Жыл бұрын
That's how it sounds though the camera/mic is closer than you are to the motor. Typical sound in my opinion.

What? No keyed on/off? Love the bike, but hate the "steal me, steal me" aspect of it. I guess this is for people that like to ride from their locked garage back to their locked garage.
@eladnudd1895 Жыл бұрын
I would agree that this bike is giving a good value at this price range. Especially for the two battery options.. all ebike brands sold in America must be careful how the product is worded, 750 watts is the max legally to keep it in a certain class, if it peak over 1300 watts it a 1000 watt motor. Which is achieved when over riding the factory settings..the factory settings is how it's able to meet the conditions to be sold... 🤫. It's their first unfolding bike so why the tiny tires?. All folding bikes have small diameter tires, because they are compact bikes designed for storage and transport but not suited for a cargo bike, especially with no front-end suspension and considering the payload this bike is rated for,, especially for your most precious payloads. Bigger is better... A compact cargo bike??? Might as well made it fold..🤔🤔hmm.
@EbikeEscape Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing capacity would have been impacted if it folded. The motor question is an interesting one that I've thought about. It seems like the consensus at least for ebike brands is that 750 watt nominal motors meet the regulation and peak power doesn't necessarily matter. Rad takes a hard line on 750 watt peak. And the tire size does help keep the bike lower to the ground and certainly helps with packaging. I like the Flyer L885 route of having a bigger tire up front and a smaller one in the rear.

I commute 32 miles round trip to work 3 days a week on a FreeGo DK200 (no I have nothing to do with them and bought my bike at full price on Amazon), it's not perfect, but is better suited to commuting (at least to me). I like the concept of the XPedition, but for me it's just a toy in its current configuration. It needs a 1200+ watt sustained (not peak) motor. It needs a fixed gear, to allow you to take off easily in pedal only (saves battery, it's like a hybrid car in reverse, the most power is used on takeoff) without extra crap to break (full gear set). It needs turn signals, actual suspension, a functioning brake light and BMX style upright handlebars --- who wants to ride to work hunched over? For someone like me commuting, I need to be able to sustain 30-35 mph in traffic, this bike doesn't look like it's going to do that. It also looks like you're going to be very uncomfortable after about 5 miles. The gear bikes with small motors, poor lighting and poor suspension are just toys (IMO). I guess if you live a block from the beach or something and just want to scoot down there on Saturday with your cooler and beach bag on the back, this is probably fine... which makes the dual batteries an odd choice, as I can't see anyone actually commuting on this bike or using it for deliveries.

@@deerarebigdogs 1. Not exactly a budget brand. There's cheaper. But I've owned 4 of these. Thought they would get better. Never really do. 3 inch tires suck. Worst size for stability. And my point is....a cargo bike should have bigger than 20 inch tires
@deerarebigdogs Жыл бұрын
@@wesduff7075 @Wes Duff 1) If you don't think it's a budget brand then I want what you're smoking. They're the cheapest bikes you can get from an actual reputable brand. Bikes cheaper than these aren't budget they're dangerous. 2) Making tire with narrower makes them less stable. That's universal, maybe you're filling your tires too much or too little. 3) There's nothing about it being a cargo bike that makes a 20 inch wheel too small. It's not the perfect wheel size but that's why the bike is cheaper. If you want perfect get a reise & muller for 8k.

@@deerarebigdogs lol. Must be easy to be ignorant. Huffy is a prime example of quality budget brand. Several others at same range. Walmart sells true "budget" brands lol.
