I'm studing PLD like FPGA and CPLD,and now I understand why they use so many multiplex in the logic matrix. That's the best way to simplify. Thanks professor!!!

I'm still new to field of logic design and I don't understand why would you want to implement that last function using 2-1 mux's. One 2-1 mux consists of 4 logic elements. 3 of them means total of 12 logic elements for implementing that switching function, where you'd only need 5 of logic elements to implement the function in regular way without mux's. But +1 for this video's brief and easy explaination of how to use Shannon's expansion.

It's just for practice. You can also imagine a situation where you have access to MUX's but no OR gates, then it can be useful to know this.

now, I understand Shannons expansion but still my question is WHY WE EVEN BOTHER DOING THIS? Using such a complex network of multiplexers (that are made by atleast 4 seprate logic gates) would be requier alot me gates which is horriply slow and expensive rather than using simple AND , OR and NOT gates to represent the function ?? Am I missing somthing here?

I have to thank you for this amazing lesson , but I have a question wouldn't it be cheaper to use w1 and w3 in 1 to 4 multi Because I've solved like that and it turned to be lots better!
