God is truly gracious. I was in doubt about my calling to preach until he lead me here. When Dr. Lawson started talking about evidences of being called and how he felt after his first sermon, I knew I was for sure. I love expository preaching, and heartily agree with Dr. MacArthur and Dr. Lawson on the need for it in church today, and I teach everyone I can how to interpret the text correctly when I preach and teach. How is heavily freighted theology such as teaching that if a person who lacks sufficient works in their lives as taught in 1 John, "can be assured they are not converted", get into a course on Expository Preaching? He is forcing his Reformed/Lordship theology into 1 John, rather than demonstrating how 1 John is actually teaching how a born again person should be living in fellowship with God based upon belief how a person can know they have eternal life (see 1 John 5:13). If 1 John is saying what Dr. Lawson is saying, then 1 John 5:13 would have to be rewritten, "These things I have written unto you so you can know you don't have everlasting life. He needs to take off his eisegetical glasses when he teaches exegetical preaching. However, they need to put their Reformed/Lordship in the closet if they are going to teach people how to interpret the text itself, rather than read a huge amount of theology into every thing they are teaching. This is hypocrisy at its finest.

You sure you are teaching them how to interpret correctly? The whole point of 1 John 5:13 is to TEST and make SURE your election. The only way to have people do that is to make sure they are not false converts. Not trying to make fun of you, but I would be more persuaded by Dr.Lawson than by someone who does not properly form sentences.

Wonderful teaching. Except from the heresy of not allowing women to preach and teach, which is contrary to the context of the Holy Bible as a whole. The Holy God shows us throughout scripture, that He raises up whomever He wishes, to whatever work He wills. He made a donkey speak and lead, He raised up female prophets, and Deborah as a judge (meaning a teacher, judge, prophet and leader with knowledge of and trust in Scripture) who also was asked by the king to act as a military leader. Jesus Christ used women in central roles in His ministry, to teach about faithfulness to the Word, and as bringers of good news. The suppression of women in the name of the LORD, is a clear violation of Holy Scripture, and done in the Holy presence of the LORD. Unless repented, our violations of Scripture will have severe consequences for the church.
