Lecture 20: Introduction to Hydrophobic Colloids, Particle Size Measurements, and Settling Stability

In Chapter 8 we begin our discussion of more traditional colloid science topics. After the necessary formality of reviewing definitions and classification schemes, this first lecture of the chapter will focus on dispersions of solid particles, their generation, and characterization. Following this general overview of sols, we will have our first look at the stability of hydrophobic colloids, which examines how the size of the particle itself tends to provide such systems with a certain amount of kinetic stability.
