You said 800*2=1600 on the yield, where is the 2 coming from? Thank you

Since H2O is the limiting reactant, that is being used to determine H2 max. The ratio of H20 to H2 is 6 :12 ( or if u simplify 1:2) so to determine the equivalent H2 produced for 800 mol/hr of H20 it has to be multiplied by 2.

That is the value of the stoichiometric coefficient.

when we write DOF,how do we understand,in case of atomic species,the number of independent balance?
@theteachingshow4745 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your query. I apologize for delay in response due to festive season in India. Its a very good question. In the atomic species balance you can find out whether the atomic balances are independent or not by using the following approaches. 1. If two atomic species appear in same proportion in all the reactants and products then if you write atomic species balance for these two species, they will be the same. For example in my video (lecture 33) CO reacts with H2 to give CH3OH. Here C and O are in 1:1 ratio in CO as well as in CH3OH. So C and O balances are one and the same and are not independent. 2. In Lecture 23 on atomic species balance, you will see that C2H4 reacts with HBr to give C2H5Br. Here we observe again that out of 3 atomic species balance only two are independent and the third one can be written as a linear combination of the other two. This is not evident on the first look. But if you write all the three balances and try to solve them, you will find that only two equations can be used. There is one hint though. If you fix the amount of C2H4 (at n1) and amount of HBr at (n2) then you will notice that C going in is 2 x n1 and Br going in is n2. If you fix amount of C and Br going in, you have automatically fixed amount of H going in. This gives a hint that H balance is not independent and can be written as a linear combination of the other two balances. I hope you have understood the point. Thanks.
