Every single time I listen to Professor Winston speak its like I time travel into the future. And when I turn on the news its like I step back in time.

We are studying some native american languages, in order to prevent their extinction, and we have ended at this aisle towards fun and understanding. Thanks you all that pay MIT, since we cannot but we are instructed with the same quality as you.

Rene Girard helps a lot with understanding who the human being is. If we can understand how mimetic theory works, and how the mythical violence of the scapegoat creates culture, we should be able to work on our problem, the problem of "are they dangerous."

These sorts of relational diagrams do my head in, partly because of the following: "Macbeth murders Duncan. Duncan becomes dead", in which the becoming dead of Duncan is already contained in the Murder container. Aaargh. HOW do you decide what to put in the containers, and how do you indicate the relation, especially with horrible backdrafts like "in order to". Too much complexity.

actually the Neanderthals were as intelligent as Homo Sapiens were. Also capable of symbolic thinking (dirlling holes in shells, building structures - see Bruniquel cave in France). So, thinking is at least 180000 years old (age of the evidence)

42:20 Dr. Jordon Peterson does that too. He talks to himself in front of an audience to help him figure out puzzles and learn from himself.

@@yunusmulla7723 Didn’t realize there’s an obligation to admire Jordan Peterson, and anyone who doesn’t is a horrible human being-a “hater”! I’ll definitely have to keep that in mind.
@PabluchoViision2 жыл бұрын
Peterson is very sharp on some things, especially in his field of clinical psychology and on certain moral and self-improvement topics-his arguments for humility, open-mindedness, and the spirit of learning are often insightful and inspiring-but he can be embarrassingly bad on history, political philosophy, and what used to be called sociobiology. Winston is straight brilliant and I’ve never heard him make a fool of himself. It’s also a funny comparison because Winston was around and masterful for 30 years before Peterson came on the scene.

I did not enjoy this and learned little if anything. IMO it was a fragmented lecture on a hazy range of topics. I'm not well read on AI but am interested in it. The lecture title doesn't align with the description and stretches into obscurity even further after watching it in its entirety. I think all the pertinent info could be summed up in a 5 min read. What did you honestly takeaway from this lecture?
