Please, discontinue the story of the underground railroad quilt blocks. It has been academically proven to not be true!

My family is related to Elias Howe, the Inventor of the Sewing Machine. Elias was an out-of-work machinist who had a dream of the spear-like needle...told his wife he could make the machine that would speed up the work many women & girls did at home to survive - cottage industry sewing. Mrs. Howe cautioned Elias that a machine would put many of those ladies out of work... Sadly, Elias Howe & Isaac Singer were involved in a bitter, many years long Patent Dispute; most of Mr. Howe's money went to pay expensive Lawyer's Fees!& Mrs.Howe died before she saw her husband's victory. I first began to quilt using the, "Quilt as You Go" hand piecing & hand quilting method...later bought a BROTHER Sewing Machine to try machine quilting;. but send my quilts out to a local shop for long-arm machine quilting. I still prefer making quilts by hand, more calming, portable & no trouble with machine!
