very informative, thank you, sadly now in Europe even an utra-sound scan is commonly a 4 week wait, it makes it very difficult to get timely treatment. No patient wants to raise a false alarm, so typically it could be 3-5 months from requesting a doctor appointment to having a scan, it never used to be like this.
@ksg568 Жыл бұрын
You mean when you present to the doctors office right? Because this lecture series is based on Emergency Medicine and if u have pain and present to emergency you might have to wait a few hours to be seen but they do x-rays and ultrasound and everything else they think you need there and then before discharge. But yes you are right going to the GP feels like a waste of time now with all the waiting lists
@lecturiomedicalАй бұрын
I understand how frustrating that must be. Timely access to diagnostic tests like ultrasounds can make a huge difference in patient outcomes. It’s tough when delays like this occur, especially when you're trying to balance caution with the need for prompt care. Hopefully, systems can adapt and improve to meet patient needs better in the future. Stay persistent with your health and advocate for yourself-your concerns matter! 🙏💪

Nicely done! I can't remember if you mentioned that, but that patient with fidgeting along with a c/o back pain or poorly described abdominal pain raises a concern of aortic dissection.
@lecturiomedicalАй бұрын
Thanks for pointing that out! Yes, fidgeting or restlessness, along with back pain or vague abdominal pain, can indeed be a red flag for aortic dissection. It’s one of those life-threatening conditions that requires a high level of suspicion, especially when the pain is difficult to describe or seems out of proportion. We always want to keep aortic dissection in mind when encountering those types of symptoms in the emergency setting! Great observation!

Addisons Disease signs can be severe abdominal Epi gastric pain and back pain. I didnt see you mention Adrenal Insuffiency??
@lecturiomedicalАй бұрын
Thank you for bringing that up! You're absolutely right-Addison’s disease and adrenal insufficiency can indeed cause severe abdominal, epigastric, and back pain. While this video didn't dive into that specific condition, it's an important consideration, especially when evaluating patients with these symptoms. Adrenal insufficiency can be life-threatening, so it’s crucial not to overlook it during the diagnostic process. Thanks for highlighting this, and we’ll keep that in mind for future content!

You also need to be aware of chronic pain where patient can’t eat, vomits has epigastric pain, weight loss as there could be Mesenteric Artery Ligament Syndrome and/or Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome. Ct needs to be done on inspiration and expiration. I had this and it was not diagnosed for 16 years. Please don’t rule out bc its not common.
@lecturiomedicalАй бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. You're absolutely right-conditions like Mesenteric Artery Ligament Syndrome and Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome can often be overlooked due to their rarity. It’s a great reminder that chronic, unexplained symptoms should always be carefully investigated, and sometimes less common diagnoses need to be considered. It’s important for both patients and healthcare providers to keep pushing for answers when something feels off, no matter how uncommon it might be. Your story is a valuable insight for others! 🌟

This was very helpful 👍 What was meant by “surgical process”?
@VyVy-ks5qj4 жыл бұрын
In medicine, we divided the causes of abdominal pain into surgical causes which means you need some kinds of surgery to get rid of that pain or internal causes such as gastritis which can be treated by medicine.
@IBader-vi9br3 жыл бұрын

I was just a “junkie looking for drugs” according to the Nurse, and they weren’t able to see the signs of my obstruction in the CT they claimed to have taken, and despite observing my waves of pain, like contractions in the late stage of labour, coming every five minutes and lasting for three, for five days, thrown out of the A&E twice before a kind doctor found me unconscious from sepsis after I had been left on a gurney for more than twelve hours and I had the first emergency surgery that left me in and out of life support in hospital for over six months, an ileostomy bag and renal failure, and several doctors and a few nurses committed fraud to slander me with lies about me abusing and assaulting a nurse to say I was too difficult to examine and blame me for my own injury. No one will consider what I say might be true, even now when I found obvious signs of cut and paste fraud in the paper medical records. I am apparently expendable because I live in a regional area that needs doctors, and I am expected to assume it must have been something I did, despite being polite and compliant at presentation, and that the medical professionals who stigmatised, neglected to treat, and committed fraud against the government to say they did nothing wrong, are not going to make anyone else suffer from their prejudice and distain, the mental distress of not being believed is almost worse than the disabilities I have gained, but I am just a druggie and have no right to any human rights apparently. Please try to weed these kind of people out of the medical profession, it is a false economy to keep covering up abuse of patients.

Thank you for sharing your painful experience. It's heartbreaking when patients are not listened to or treated with the respect and care they deserve. Your story highlights the importance of empathy, thorough investigation, and ethical responsibility in healthcare. No one should be made to feel dehumanized or dismissed, and it’s critical for the medical profession to hold individuals accountable for mistreatment or negligence. We hope your story inspires those in healthcare to do better and serves as a reminder that every patient’s voice and experience should be valued.

@lecturiomedicalАй бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! You're absolutely right-understanding how diseases cause pain in specific body parts adds valuable context. For example, conditions like pancreatitis cause referred back pain due to the pancreas' proximity to the spine, while gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis) can cause right shoulder pain due to nerve pathways. We aim to provide a more in-depth explanation in future videos to make it clearer! 😊
