When Providing Post-Mortem Care, the goal is to respect not only the deceased patient, BUT ALSO, the family! And respect the patient's wishes. For example, My hospital has Stryker InTouch beds. These Intensive Care Unit beds THEY PLAY MUSIC! When I'm in ICU, which is quite often, I want my music playing at all times. In the event I passed, I would want that music playing on my bed, while I'm passing, AND after I have died. I'm a ventilator dependent tube fed patient, and I've been in these beds MANY times. I called Stryker and they sent me the actual audio files to the bed, and that exact music from the bed is also on my iPhone. So this music is FAMILIAR to me, because not only is it playing in ICU, but I also play it at home. SO OF COURSE WHEN IT IS MY TIME, I want that music playing, and my family is familiar with it, so after death, I want the music playing for them. I've expressed this to my family, and to everybody who knows me in the ICU. And they know what the protocol would be when that time comes and when I pass.
