Matt talks about a few of the things to look for in your LED headlight conversion, and shows how simple the change can be on a 73 Triumph TR6 as an example. Unlike halogen bulbs, LEDs use less power so no changes to the wiring are necessary.

Matt... I just installed the new LED headlights on my 1973 MG Midget. Wow!! what a tremendous difference its like night and day... no pun intended. I purchased the VC3500 Classic 7". They fit fantastically and just as you mentioned plug and play. They can now see me coming from a mile away. Super safe and well lit. Thank you once again. Cheers.

Just order a pair of the upgraded version for my 70 c10. Cannot wait to install and check em out after seeing your video showing the difference between the OG lights and the LED. Didn’t see this video till after I ordered, but still very informative.

@@midwestmotoring kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX6Qe6SLgteFnJY they made such a big difference driving at night vs the OG lights on my C10. This isn’t a drive video but shows how good they even look in the day light

So, I take it that a relay is also not needed? I'm thinking not...I WISH my lights were as bright as your old lights LOL! Thanks for the video!

Hi John! A relay is generally a good idea for many different circuits. It would still save wear on your light switch, for example, because there is still a sizable amount of current flowing to the lights. That said, one of the main advantages of adding a relay to halogen H4 bulbs or sealed beams is that it gives a more direct flow of current to the lights--so they're brighter. The LEDs draw fewer amps than the original bulbs, so a relay is optional but not necessary--I'm not convinced I'd notice the difference in light output. That said--if you're going the LED route, there are a lot of "meh" options. I looked for a while and settled on these even though they were a little pricier.

Hi Matt, which kit did you use for your "73 TR6? I see about 5 different kits on the web site. Jim

Hi James, I used the VC3500 with the "upgraded" lens. The standard lens works just as well, but is a little flatter at the front--that's the one that we put on the Mini. If I were to buy another set for a car I'm very fond of, I'd probably try out the Hella lenses. Why not, for a one time expense? Anyway, if you go to buy a set, let them know I recommended them. There isn't a discount or anything we agreed upon, but it couldn't hurt to ask for one--you never know!

Is the lens glass or plastic? And are they available in yellow instead of white?
@midwestmotoring
@midwestmotoring 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eli! The lenses are glass. You'll find the economy ones look and perform great, but they're a little flatter than the old fashioned bulb (i.e. less convex). The upgraded sets both have a more traditional profile. All 3 options are glass. I THINK one of their sets (the 5000 series) has bulbs with temperature ("color") options, but I'm not sure if that's exactly what you're looking for. There's a chat bubble that pops up if you go to www.vintagecarleds.com, and if they aren't there immediately they usually get back to you within a few hours.

Here's a response from one of the owners: "Our VC5000 kit comes with a yellow filter for yellow light output. However the lens itself will appear clear/ no color unless the light is on. We do ship internationally."

It is an expensive option.

Definitely true. In our opinion worth it--but only if you drive your car frequently. If you take it to shows a couple times per year... stick with the sealed beams. They'll work just fine given that you won't be driving at night very often. We DO like the LED options with a bulb that has more of a curve to it. Most LED conversions have kind of a flat lens.
