I'm gonna try led headlight bulbs as well . I am not sure if all crown vics have this problem , but the light output really really sucks with the regular halogen bulbs ..... barely lights up the road . My lenses are a little hazy but man .... i am trying leds when it get warmer outside . Gonna get new lenses too, i wanns see at night when i drive . It's like they light up to about 3 feet in front of the car and they're aimed correctly . I put leds in my reverse lights and holy moly , what a huge difference . Thank you for giving me the confidence to try new things on my Vic !

every Crown Vic I've owned or driven has had crappy headlights - even compared to other Ford cars. Don't know why they are so bad in stock form, but they are horrible. LED makes a big improvement but still not as good as any of my other vehicles

I picked up a set of Lasfit LED lamps and they were plug and play. You just spun the retainer ring off the bulb, slipped the factory one on and the ring goes back onto the bulb and the whole thing clicks in place. Seriously, installed in 15 mins.

I bought the Cougar Motor fanless LEDs for my 2001 Crown Victoria. They don't have screws under the red gasket. You just twist the plastic base of the LED light and the back end with the fins comes off. You still have to take the LED bulb out from the base to get the larger holder ring to fit on the new light. The red retaining gasket on the new LED was thick and very hard to push into the light fixture. I put some vaseline on the ring and that allowed me to force it in. It took longer than expected as the instructions are minimal and don't pertain to your particular car. I will be testing them tonight. Just wanted to comment that the new fanless LEDs from Cougar do fit, just a little difficult to do.

I am back again and still on the fence about replacement LED Bulbs that replace the H9007 Head Light Bulb in a Crown Vic/Mercury Marquis. Previously I spoke about a problem I had with my first set of LED Light Bulbs below. I corrected the wiring problem with them as already mentioned. They are a 9007 with 3 LED Chips on the inside. What I liked about them was the very nice beam of light I get in the Low Beam position on my headlight switch. I am on the fence with the kind of light shown on the High Beam position of the switch though with these bulbs. Not impressed with it at all. What I ended up doing since my last post was I ordered another set of 9007 LED Bulbs that have just 2 Bigger LED COB Chips that look to be made simliar to the bulbs WJ Handy Dad installed in this video one Large Chip on the right and one on the left. Handy Dads has 2 small chips on the right and the same on the left. I made sure the bulbs are properly positioned in the housing. Tried them out at night for the first time last night. I actually like the Low Beam position on these Bulbs that have 2 LEDS inside the bulb even better then the other set that I have with 3 LEDS in the bulbs but once again I am still on the fence with the High Beam that just seems to spread out the light some from Right to left. Is this what we are to expect from LED Lights Bulbs installed in our older Crown Vics/Mercury Marquis Headlight Housings? I have had some cars in the past with Regular Halogens that gave me a better High Beam then what I am getting from the LED's. This was the reason that I purchase a 2nd set from a different manufacturer. Still not sold on the idea of LED's for my Mercury Marquis. I welcome all comments or questions.

I've noticed there isn't a huge difference between low and hi beams on the Vic (LED or regular bulb), at least when doing the aiming at the wall, but where I notice a bigger difference is driving down a dark country road, the high beams light up farther down the road but also out to the sides better. And for me, the LED's make a huge difference and are worth it both price to purchase as well as extra hassle of installing them.

for the headlight bulbs? I have done newer LED headlight videos and they are both better lights than the ones in this video. It would be better to look at those videos and pick one. One is amber & white and more expensive (but worth it in my opinion) or if you are on a budget the ones that replaced the ones in this video work much better than these

Hey Handy Dad, thanks for the Video. It turned out great for your car, but I did the same to mine and it's awful. Are your headlamp housing an original Ford part? My beam pattern is all over the place with the same LED bulbs. I aligned the headlamps with the LED bulb aligned up and down (vertical) and it was terrible, then turned it horizontal and it was worse, so I turned them back. The beam pattern is full of shadows the blotches. Maybe it's my headlight housing? It's aftermarket and they look cheap. What do you think? Should I change my headlight fixtures to Motorcraft? I'm totally bummed out about this on my car. I wish I had your beam pattern, but I don't. It sucks man. Thanks for any input.
@WJHandyDad5 жыл бұрын
I don't know... I've not had that issue and mine are "cheap" aftermarket lenses too. Possibly you got a bad bulb or something? Just guessing though.
@ricksavage94575 жыл бұрын
I purchased 2 new headlight assemblies for my 02 Crown Vic, I was already running the plug and play LED lights ( another brand) on my old assemblies which were OEM and they worked fine without the shadows and splotchy patterns. I bought some "cheaper aftermarket" reflector type assemblies off of Amazon and immediately noticed the situation you are encountering. I also had a very hard time making adjustments to them and they still are not 100% correct. It would be my guess is that it is the cheaper aftermarket housing assemblies that are causing you the issue. I just received my Spec D tuning projector halo lights ( havent installed them yet) and have watched a few videos saying how bad they suck (except when high beams are on) but look cool as hell. So I am at a cross roads to go with crappy spotty light beams or go with something that looks cool but might not give as much light.

@WJHandyDad6 жыл бұрын
what do you mean by "the headlight mod?"
@Cp-qo6xk6 жыл бұрын
WJ Handy Dad I forget the specifics but you wire it up so it’s direct power from the battery and not through a resistor that makes the headlamps pretty much awful from the start. Google it you would probably be interested and it would enhance your new bulbs even more.
@WJHandyDad6 жыл бұрын
sounds interesting... good idea for a future video
@Cp-qo6xk6 жыл бұрын
WJ Handy Dad yep exactly sounds just like a video you’d do too. A lot of people on crownvic.net do the upgrade. I’m totally incompetent with wiring or else I’d do it myself lol.
@cardinaloflannagancr89296 жыл бұрын
You can also confirm if it is worth installing a harness for direct battery connection. Check the power at the harness before you open/install anything . Each company can use different gage and quality wires so power loss or gain using direct can be assessed.

Did you aim them? How are you sure they aren't blinding people? People always say LED bulbs in halogen housings are bad.
@WJHandyDad6 жыл бұрын
my lights were already aimed. So far no one has "flashed" me so they must not be blinding folks
@cardinaloflannagancr89296 жыл бұрын
While many get caught up on "blinding people". It is one not exclusive to hid or led and two more people are blinded by trucks, SUVs which are higher than their vehicle. An incorrectly aimed halogen, xenon, hid, led will all blind you and it is very uncommon to have that actually checked on inspection. Despite it being part of state inspections and checked off as performed. I've seen shops deny a car for what they deem unsafe lighting, in reality be either a dot approved bulb which they didn't check. Or sometimes even a factory equipped hid light vehicle is claimed to be unsafe to oncoming traffic. Cars and bulbs age so they typically could benefit from minor adjustments, esp if an accident had occurred.

the grey plastic piece that gets unscrewed and removed from the LED light - it has a top and bottom - if your high beams come on at the wrong time, unscrew it, spin it half way, and retighten it and you should be fine

LED headlights are blinding to oncoming traffic no matter of the reflector you put them in. There are so many people complaining and petitions started that soon this may become illegal.
