Greetings from Germany and I love your channel. For my tank at home of course I had the same question 2 years ago, looking for lights and all LED manufacturers said, their products are not strong enough to keep high class SPS in my tank. Tank is 1 meter deep (1,28 ft). So I went for the German ATI hybrid in 8x80 plus 4 X75 watt LED. And what can I say. I'm so happy with that light. Maybe LED becomes first choice for other tanks, but not here. Montiporas even grow in 1 meter deep water. Plus it is way more easy to take good photos with T5.

@@BRStv of course I've seen it LOL - legends. I know they are very similar. Mainly I wanted to see more about the Orphek spectrum - I think they probably have the best spectrum for acros for any LED so I thought this would be an interesting way to see that. Also as I think they have 380 diodes and the 830ish or something. I think it is strange they don't have 740nm like they have on their bars (or that may be called far-red) as Dana said those help to prevent bleaching.

The problem with LEDs is there are so many different fixtures and variations, and any given fixture can be adjusted in multiple ways. Ultimately, the term 'LED' means very little because of all these variations.

Gotta say in all my years of reefing, no T5s give the complete pop of what LEDs can do. But that's because with LEDs you can turn off wavelengths where as with t5s you can't turn off any of the wide band wavelengths that even a Blue+ bulb has. But that's ok, T5s are great for doing workhorse applications, i.e. "daytime" and do a fantastic job of coverage over a relatively large area with a relatively cheap cost.
@madweazl4 жыл бұрын
Sure you can! They just dont because they're smart enough to know the corals actually need more of the spectrum to survive, look good, and grow. Bonehead users with a wide margin tunable LED are responsible for killing so many corals it's borderline disgusting. I wish more companies would limit some of the combinations to ranges that provide proper spectrum instead of what people think looks good. Almost criminal.
@raisethereef4 жыл бұрын
@@madweazl When I talked to Oliver (the CEO) over at ATI, you can't make T5s nearly as narrow as LEDs when it comes to wavelength. Most T5s are using a tri-band phosphor in them and it's playing with that ratio that gives a T5 its look.

@sunnygoold94494 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? Do you mean they only seem to have like 3 types of diodes in that blue range? (like 420. 450 and 470). Yeah I think that is why the Orphek Reef Bars are so popular and in the lastBRS video Ryan showed how you need different ones to really make the corals pop. The spectrum of T5's is determined by the chemicals that the manufacturers use to fluoresce. They have obviously found good combinations, but it's interesting that we assume that this is the 'best' spectrum for coral growth and then try to approximate it with LEDs. It may actually be that the ideal spectrum is somewhat different and can be better approximated by LEDs than T5s.

The blue LEDs in the G5 Blue are too far into cyan. They need to be closer to 460. The G5 has improved on some things from G4 but I seriously question who put them together. They definitely swung and missed on a couple things IMO. For one, they didn't hit the AB+ spectrum that they've been touting for years on the pervious generations. That should have been the first place they started if they really wanted to market the Blue fixture as an AB+ spectrum replica.

@@tomg5405 From what I've heard most of our corals are found between 30-90 feet. That means blue is the most dominant wavelength left. There is no issue in running a couple 6500k halides or T5s if someone wants. Even the tuna sun from Kessil will give you that natural 6500k look. Just depends on what you like. Hello, no one see same than me? The spectrum are not same! even close! Where is the green? It is super important for metabolic processes, PerCP is a zooxanthellae pigment that takes advantage of wavelengths 450-600 (green). The T5 have that peak ... where is it in the LEDs? Saturating a coral with peak wavelengths such UV is not beneficial, especially when UV is constant, 2 hours a day in the ocean, most users put them to the maximum and varying, why? for pleasure or for the health of your corals? for first, sure! Anyway ... thanks for the videos but I don't think it's a very scientific fact ...
