at 4:59 brings back memories seeing you seal the heat shrink with a lighter. I am a Marine and worked on helicopters where we used same heat shrink material after fixing wiring issues except we were SUPPOSED to use a hot air gun to do the shrinking which required much more time in bringing out a generator all the way out to the flight line, big pain in the butt. So instead, everyone carried a BIC lighter, even the non-smokers. They were a tool commonly referred to as a "B1C" or a "Bravo One Charlie".

Love this book! kzbin.infoUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!

Since I do a lot of commercial retail spaces, where LEDs are used quite often. I've made it a habit of using all the different varieties of aluminum extrusion tracks for LEDs. Some have covers, some angle the light or shield the light. I always include those into the build... but when I just need a small piece to show the client what I had in mind, I get 1 meter strips off of ebay. The nice thing about them, is that they act as heat sinks, and prolong the lifespan of the LEDs and I can tell the clients that there won't be a fire hazard when they are applied to the aluminum extrusions. No client says no to them after that. But for your shadow box build, I would have made it so the lights are way more recessed. So you don't see the strip of light, but it makes the back of the board light up evenly. Just recently did a build like this to showcase luxury purses in display window.

Great looking boxes, something you could do to mix up the lighting would be to put different colored paper over the lights to change the lighting in each box. Or even have multiple different colors in each box

Linn, I really like the look of this fixture. I was also thinking that if you wanted to have items that collect dust, you could put on smoked glass or acrylic doors to bring down the light level and still give you that wonderful shadow box look. Beautiful

Very cool and useful project. I was gonna ask about any heat generated by the led lights, but you cleared it up. Reason I asked was to put an additional groove for a colored acrylic or glass sheet and possibly add a shadow land scape to it.

Very cool Linn! One option that I did with some arcade marquee lightboxes was to inset the back panel by 1/2" or 3/4" and run a french cleat across the top of the back panel to hang them on the wall (assuming they were wide enough to cross two studs). If you were okay with the boxes touching a bit you could still hide the wires, though I suppose you could also use small lengths of the fairy lights to connect the boxes. Hiding the wire to the DC adapter/outlet is still annoying unfortunately.

New intro! Nice. Excellent looking project. An idea to dress up that switch would be to get half an easter egg or ping pong ball, or maybe even a velvet ring box and punch a hole or slot in the middle to let the lever poke out. The box would cover the body of the switch and help integrate it into the design of the piece.

Great build. Screw from the back to hide the screws in the box. Route a groove on the rear for the power cable and maybe use a more elegant switch. nice project, you could have also used an RGB strip light with remote control to change to any theme light background for them plus lower the intensity of the brightness so you wont need to add the paper strips....plus with the small remote you wouldn't need to wire a switch since the remote would turn it off and on or do any color or brightness or even effects.

Hi Linn, I am bewildered where you got all these skills. From concreting to electrical work, woodwork, turning on the lathe, etc..... Are you self taught? In Australia we are not allowed to do our own electrical work, or we are, but it has to be certified by an electrician, with paperwork etc.. You explain everything very well and you are extremely creative. Congratulations on this and all your projects!!! I've subscribed and will continue to watch your projects. If you like watching creative KZbin videos, have a look at this guy. NZ woodturning from the U.K. He will try anything, similar to you. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Sean
