Jimmy Page heard Fred Gerlach's (1925-2009) version of this song on Gerlach's album, "Twelve String Guitar" (1962) and was impressed enough to cover the song on "Led Zepellin III" (1970). Jimmy page was not happy with the media's negative reaction to this album.Which is why their fourth album remained untitled, and did not feature the bands name on the cover.Atlantic records had been aghast at this idea but page was adamant.Jimmy wanted to show that Zeppelin could sell their albums in huge numbers, even without these features....He was right.

Love that attitude: “Oh ya? Here’s an album that will be a classic for decades. You figure out how to promote it”. Jimmy caught a lot of flak in the Atlantic office. Probably reminded him of being sent to the Schoolmaster’s office for bringing his guitar to school. They used to store it in the office and give it back to him at the end of the school day.

Jimmy was always right, from the moment he decided he wanted to put a band together. The media generally still don't understand what "the kids" love, even all these years later.

I was born in 1981 so missed led zeppelin in the early days. My dad told me that if I ever bought a led zeppelin album, I could throw away any others I had they are that good. I remember buying a double cd. The early days and the latter days. I still regard that as the best I ever bought. Absolutely amazing.

This and Four Sticjs are my favorite songs, Call me strange, but they both have that certain something…. This undefinable quality, Miles away from what other bands were doing at that time. I’m 65 now, I was born and came of age in the most exciting time of the 20th century or any century. Feel blest if you from that same time frame, Luck and serendipity puts us in the best of all possible worlds …. Tj Struska

The Battle of Evermore has begun. So I'm packin' my bags for the misty mountains Where the spirits go Over the hill, where the spirits fly. The apples of the valley hold the seeds of happiness The ground is rich from tender care- Repay do not forget The pain of war cannot exceed The woe of aftermath The Magic Runes are writ in gold To bring the Magic back Bring it back...

I think my two favorite LZ songs are covers of traditional folk/blues tunes: When the Levee Breaks, and this one. I love the song's long buildup, with the mandolin coming in at 1:10, the bass at 1:20, and the banjo and drums at 2:05.

Zep doesn't do my favorite song ever but Zep IS FOR SURE my fav band ever. No,I don't know everything about them nor have I even committed their albums arangements to memory,,, but,,, after decades of road tripping and partying, plus just listening in general, I feel qualified to love their tunes. Just as a side note, my fav song is Victim Of Changes by JP.

Imagine being obsessed with Zep I and II and then in a short 11 months, they've grown beards and make an album that's 60% acoustic. Amazing and an ethereal trip, especially when embellished with electric guitars. Jimmy uses some intriguing effects on his electrics on this record, tremolo on Immigrant Song, direct injection on Celebration day and a few others, 12 string overdubs, Leslie speaker flourishes here or there, some beautiful ADT guitar on Since I've been loving you that's effectively a doubled slapback delay sound, the bathroom reverb slab guitar of Out on the Tiles, those buttery lead lines at the end of Gallows reminds me of Ramble On in some ways, like this Is a successor. More rustic tho. Ramble On is very electric at its core. Love Zeppelin III

Commenting already 3-4 times on this song, the background laughing that comes in at 3:22 is my personal favorite part of the song and absolutely makes it one of my, all time favorite songs. And to me atleast, it always sounded like John Bonham. The man who inspired me to drum. So, it's special, and even if it isn't, it's still damn catchy to, laugh? Sing with it?
