Cool reaction - This song is one of THE reasons I became a drummer. I was awed by it. Beyond that though, it's just a great song. In fact, it's difficult to even think of a Zeppelin song I don't like. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, is a good second choice too. One thing about this band is you can tell a song is Zeppelin within the first few bars, and yet, a lot of their stuff sounds nothing like each other. A signature sound, but an incredibly diverse style.

Great reaction and commentary, thanks! That was a banger right out of the gate, eh? Album 1 was recorded and edited in 36 hours during October of 1968 and released in January of 1969. Album 2 was both recorded and released in 1969. IMO, you don't need to do "You Shook Me" and "Dazed and Confused" in one reaction. They're two separate and unrelated songs. The first is blues rock and the second is hard/acid rock. Some people like reactors to do a few songs back-to-back because that's how radio stations often played them, but it's not necessary if you don't think it would work for you given the length of the songs. However, there are a couple of other tracks on album 1 that are rather short, so if you'd like to make a bit longer reaction by combining those two considering the work that goes into it, they are "Black Mountain Side" (a few seconds over 2 minutes) and "Communication Breakdown" (a few seconds under 2.5 minutes). Either way, it's all good. :)

The main mistake I see reactors is on the second album where they don't know that they should play Living Loving Maid and She's Just a Woman back-to-back as one long song.
@jmar7631 Жыл бұрын
@@stevedahlberg8680 It's "Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)". Same song, not two separate songs. Perhaps you meant it should be played together with "Heartbreaker" because radio stations did? Page once said in an interview that he never understood why people think they are one interconnected song and have to be played together because they're not and they don't. In fact, Led Zeppelin often performed "Heartbreaker" in concert but never "Living Loving Maid", so they clearly never played them back-to-back. If they didn't, I wouldn't call it a "mistake" if reactors don't regardless of what DJs did. ;) Edit: Page doesn't particularly like "Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)" and was never interested in performing it in concert.

I see some comments about pausing. I'll just say that my pet-peeve, and i think others share this, is when a reactor pauses and doesn't rewind five or so seconds. Gives you a chance to get back into whatever that part of the song was, a chance to hear cool transitions or a kick-ass drum fill u might have paused (unknowingly) in the middle of. Just a suggestion, good reaction!

Hi there, I'm glad to see you're doing the entire album track by track. Once a reactor starts doing a few Zep songs, I always recommend starting from the beginning and go in album/track order so you can get the full measure of the band and witness their musical evolution. Also, it guarantees you don't miss a deep cut/hidden gem because you're not reacting to only the most requested songs. I'm a huge Zep fan and have seen that you have several Zep reactions which I'll be sure to check out. I agree with @J Mar in that you shouldn't combine You Shook Me and Dazed because for the songs mentioned (Black Mountain Side and Communication Breakdown), Black Mountain Side is an instrumental so would blend more seamlessly with Communication Breakdown. I'm glad to hear you're as Beatles fan - so am I and Zep was considered to be to 70s music what the Beatles were to 60s music. Zep ushered in hard rock/heavy blues and, while not metal themselves, are considered one of the progenitors of metal. That being said, I definitely consider this song to be proto-punk. I look forward to joining you on your Zep journey.

Bonham was a big fan of James Brown whose 60's band had three drummers and one of whom - Pretty Purdy - was a master of triplets. It's like he's tried to compress that James Brown sound into one drumkit which, by the way, was the minimum set up with just an extra floor tom and an extra crash (plus a pair of bongos and a big f** **f gong, Rank style).

@@Andy_Tunereviews84 That's one way to perform a triplet, there are others. In any case, drummer Carmine Appice commented in an interview when he was asked what he thought of Bonham's (Bonzo's) drumming: “I heard Bonzo’s foot thing, the triplet on ‘Good Times Bad Times,’ and was blown away. When I finally got to meet Bonzo, I said to him, ‘I love that foot thing you did,’ and he said, ‘What do you mean? I got it from you.’ I said, ‘I never did that triplet.’ He said, ‘Yeah, you did. It’s on ‘Ticket to Ride’ on the first Vanilla Fudge album.’ I went back and listened to the Fudge record again after that and found that, yes, I did a triplet between the hand and foot, but he did it all with his foot. That blew me away.”
