They all say the same thing. Each band member says that the very first time they actually played together ..they started playing an old Yardbirds jam..Train Kept a Rollin' and after five seconds they all stopped...and each one was astonished ..scared a little ...amazed . At their sound together Bass Keyboard artist Jones and Drummer Bonham are the most incredible foundations for this juggernaught

Page and John Paul Jones knew each other well at this point, they were two of the top session players in London, and had been for a few years. They played on many British hits together, and Jones was often the arranger on those sessions as well, so you’re not wrong, Jones was absolutely Zeppelin’s secret weapon - he plays most of the keyboards on the Zeppelin albums, and arranges the strings and orchestral parts, and wrote some of the iconic riffs to boot. His feel is part of why Bonham is so celebrated, he locks in with Bonham in an almost supernatural way. I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Jones play with Dave Grohl, and you could see how utterly thrilled Grohl was, because Jones made him sound incredible on the drums, better than he actually is, which I don’t say lightly. Oh, and, if you haven’t seen Andre 3000 play Jimi Hendrix in All Is By My Side, you absolutely must, it’s one of the best music biopics imo, written and directed by the guy who wrote 12 Years a Slave. Andre is incredible in it, he really captures Hendrix’s essence.

Please, I hope you continue going in order with Led Zeppelin; their evolution is nothing short of amazing. Here's a couple of dates to maybe help put their skill level in perspective; their first rehearsal was August 12, 1968. Their first album was released January 12, 1969 in the US and March 31, 1969 in the UK. So, that means they were already naturally skilled enough to put together an album like this in approximately 5 months. The album itself took 36 hours to record which Jimmy paid for, then he produced it, as he did all their albums. They went and shopped around a *finished product* looking for a record deal. John Paul Jones is often overlooked but only by people who don't know - fans know.

Planty is STILL doing it, and he's in his 70's now. He's in 2 bands, both successful in their fields, and I believe he's still recording as a solo artist (or is it with Alison Krauss ? ). He's local to me (Wyre Forest area of the Midlands)so I've met him several times, a mate is in one of his bands (Saving Grace), and even my daughter has had a quick vocal jam with him. If you didn't know, you'd think he was just a regular local guy, not this global musical icon. My friend, you are standing right on the lip of one of the deepest rabbit holes in music.....

You hit the nail on the head with their chemistry. And it's interesting how they all formed. I believe Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones found Robert Plant and he turned them onto John Bonham and it just worked! Bonham is a big reason why I started playing drums. Keith Moon of the Who, and Neil Pert of Rush as well, but Bonham to be sure. One thing about this band that I always found amazing. On almost every song they've ever recorded, you could tell it was Zeppelin from the first measure, but no two songs sound the same. Not even close really.

Just wait til you see them live. Unbelievable!!!!! Andre 3000 is a Bad Ass!!!! A musical genius. There are very few rappers/ producers that garner my praise, but Andre is definitely one of them. I remember years ago, I got a new job delivering food for a popular local restaurant. My first day on the job, Outcast was doing a free show for the college kids. I wish I knew how good they were back then. (I was filling in for people that asked off for that show). I delivered to workers at that show that night. I made rent in that one night, From the people working the gate and other security. I wish I could've been at that show, but rent was a priority away that moment.

Just a little fun fact, while everyone who was anyone was trying to get into and play Woodstock in August of 1969 Led Zeppelin opted out. Their manager decided against it after Zeppelin played a number of festivals during that summer. Instead they played a small, 2,000 seat, venue on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, New Jersey called Convention Hall for a couple of nights that weekend.

Good Reaction! How are you able to so accurately analyze music when you’re not educated as a Music scholar or teacher? And you didn’t go to Berkeley College of music either. You said you’re an Engineer and not a Musician. Yet you have provided me with insights into songs that I never would have thought of that I think are accurate and on point. You left me feeling stunned after the No Quarter review and the Nirvana reviews. I think you’re interpretation of the lyrics is accurate and you got me to understand the songs much better then before! Thanks for that! Destiny? Exactly! You’re right again! Led Zeppelin were destined for greatness from the very beginning. They knew it would work after their first rehearsal! They knew they had lightning in a Bottle right then and there. They actually laughed with relief because they had to go play as the New Yardbirds in Stockholm. After they finished their first live Gigs, they returned to London and became Led Zeppelin officially.

Yup, John Paul Jones is the quiet guy of the band, he like Jimmy page cut his teeth as a session man where you had to learn fast, and be top notch and versatile. He would often cross paths with Page at recording studios in the 60's, during the pre-Zepp days. Jones also has great arranging and producing skills, and he plays keyboards as well as bass guitar. A real asset to Zeppelin as they progressed into wider areas of music outside of their staple blues/ rock foundations.

Jimmy Page wrote most of the lyrics on the first album, Plant only really got started writing on their second album. In my opinion John Paul Jones' bass lines on Led Zeppelin II are his best, especially on the blues laden "The Lemon Song". Alternately, if you would like to hear a top notch band with more up front bass, perhaps check out Yes. Songs like Roundabout, Yours Is No Disgrace, and Heart Of The Sunrise, are good introductory songs from that prog-rock enigma.
@jakeenan
@jakeenan Жыл бұрын
Actually, Page didn't write all the lyrics on the first album. Plant, for contractual reasons, could not be named as a writer on the first album because the band would've got stiffed by the record label he was signed to and got out of when he joined Zep. Page spoke about it briefly in an interview a couple of years ago. He got credit years later though.
@paulmcintyre141
@paulmcintyre141 Жыл бұрын
@@jakeenan Plant's CBS contract turned out to be moot in the long run. My point was Plant didn't actually "write" anything original on LZ. Aside from rearranging already established lyrics from already previously established songs. Plant was always dropping in lyrics from other songs in their live performances. Scattering your set with someone else's lines, verses, or tongue in cheek alterations of said lyrics, doesn't constitute "writing", IMHO. Even though Page is guilty of this as well, he actually tried to change/update his parts to what he wanted LZ to sound like. As we all know Plant's first "real" song writing contribution came on LZ2 with WIASNB, and Thank You.

John Bonham and Robert Plant were barely 20 when this album was recorded. John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page, who were not much older, already had careers as in-demand session musicians in London behind them. Page had also been part of The Yardbirds, an influential 60's band. The 4 of them joined together was magic. The members have said the first time they rehearsed together - they knew instantly it was something very powerful. And it still is. Thank you for the thoughtful reaction. ☮

Yes they knew they had lightning in a bottle when they first played together. All members are very good musicians. For their best performance in my opinion it has to be Dazed and Confused live at Madison Square Garden in 1973. This piece is many years old by this point. Apparently first played by Jimmy in its infancy when he was a teenager. Its 28 mins of music I have seen bo other band even come close to matching. The nearest I feel is Rush with a song called 2112. Their drummer, a man called Neil Pert who passed away sadly recently is also on the same level as Bonham. Rush are amazing too I highly recommend them. Along with and in no particular order are The Who, Qeen, AC-DC, Pink Floyd of course can't forget them. And if you want to try bands from Britain from the 90s which is when I got into music who are also first class musically I reccomend The Stone Roses, Blur, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene and The Charlatans. Welcome to the club my friend enjoy yourself.

Read this: To quote from the special edition Guitar Legends Feb. of 2004, "To be fair, Led Zeppelin's greatness is genuinely complex. Like a Japanese puzzle box whose mysterious contents are revealed only after one acquires a deep knowledge of how each piece works together, the group defies easy analysis." This my seem a bit floral or snobby, but it really sums it up. I would listen to all in sequence, and have some companion books like Hammer of the Gods (I've read SEVERAL TIMES) to give you context and the sequence of underlying events.

No, their master piece to me is "In Through The Out Door" the last album they did as a band. 7 songs and all are different aspects of music.

Hey Syed ! Just found your channel and subscribed. The ancient Greeks popularized, "The 7 Wonders of the World." If I was to write a list of 7 wonders of modern music, Zeppelin One would be at the top. It is said they took less than 40 hours of studio time (over a few weeks), to record it. Hello from Connecticut U.S.A.

Great stuff! My second favorite band, almost tied with Yes. But Yes has it over them a little.

What we all are forgoting is that both Plant n Bohnam were just a 20 yr olds when this song is recorded. Just imagine the talent of them...

John Paul Jones, I think, is revered as a prodigy. He plays all kinds of instruments. He does arrangements for orchestras and a lot of different things at expert level genius level..

Interesting comparison! Bombs over Bagdad got quite a bit of airplay on the radio station 99X in Atlanta, (the home of Outkast as I am sure you know ;) ) 99X was an alternative station, that played some Outkast and Eminem as well.
