That crunch that kicks off the solo, like a rocket taking off... This is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs. To me it's totally what 80's Zeppelin would have sounded like. My only knock on it is the lyrics are tough to pick out. Musically, though, it's a underrated epic.

I listen to this album more than some other Zep albums, so I don't know what fans are talking about. Fans deride Presence too, which is another great album. I don't see any Zep album as bad, just different. My least favorite albums are Zep I and II, but some fans swear by them. To each his own. They're all good just different.

I had a coworker who violently hated ITTOD. I thought isn't Fool In The Rain and All My Love on that album?! I wasn't a Zeppelin fan at the time so I didn't know any better. I now own this album, two copies by accident, it's a long story, and it's in my top half of my ranking of their albums. The only ones I like more are IV, Physical Graffiti and II. The albums I'm not terribly in love w/are Presence, though it has a couple of stellar songs, and III, thought I love Immigrant Song. But, one of the things I love about Zeppelin is that they don't put out the same album every time. Though I may not some as much, their worst is better than a lot of people's best :)

In the evening When the day is done I'm looking for a woman But the girl don't come So don't let her Play you for a fool She don't show no pity, baby She don't make no rules Oh, I need your love I need your love Oh, I need your love I just got to have So don't you let her Oh, get under your skin It's only bad luck and trouble From the day that you begin I hear you crying in the darkness, Don't ask nobody's help Ain't no pockets full of mercy, baby 'Cause you can only blame yourself Oh, I need your love Oh, oh, I need your love Yeah, I need your love I just got to have Oh, it's simple All the pain that you go through You can turn away from fortune, fortune, fortune 'Cause that's all that's left to you Oh, it's lonely at the bottom Man, it's dizzy at the top But if you're standing in the middle Ain't no way you're gonna stop, oh Oh, I need your love Oh, oh, I need your love Oh, oh, I need your love I just got to have Ooh, whatever that your days may bring No use hiding in a corner 'Cause that won't change a thing If you're dancing in the doldrums One day soon, it's got to stop, it's got to stop When you're the master of the off-chance When you don't expect a lot Oh, I need your love Oh, oh, I need your love Oh yeah, I need your love I just got to have, I just got to have

One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs. I can't really describe its sound; I guess haunting, echoey, and punchy might describe it, in my bizarre choice of words.

One of the biggest differences in this album was that it was really two different bands: JPJ and Plant would lay down the rhythm (without drums!) And Bonzo and Page would come in later to lay down their parts. So Page did alot less writing, this album was largely JPJ writing. This was the first one that they didn't sit in a room and play together.

This is one of my many favorite Zeppelin songs. Thanks for letting us join you on this journey. I get to rediscover music that is the soundtrack of my generation--took me 50 years to get to the party, but I made it! Hope you will consider reacting to their bootlegs--some of the performances make me REALLY regret not going to their concert when I had a chance.

5:38 The thundering and lightening sound was created with a Fender Stratocaster that has the back cover removed to expose the tremolo springs and he's pulling them out and letting they snap back, similar to a spring door stop but much much tighter because the springs are hooked on both ends.

All bands evolve and Zeppelin is no different. Once their albums (what I'd now call their next level) Physical Graffiti, Presence and In through the out door came out, I'd pretty much moved on. I didn't appreciate those albums until years later. I guess they were more willing to evolve musically than I was. 🤔

Hi Sir. This is my first ever hearing of this song not the best but as you say better than some one hit wonders you can hear. Never heard this before but have been aware of Led Zeppelin since 1970 when a lecturer at a day release class I attended showed us an LP cover that he had, it had to be "Led Zeppelin". Apart from singles heard on the radio I only bought their albums as CDs I guess over 40 yrs later! Never a bad song in their discography just 8 or 9's rather than 10's. Good job on review as always!

One of the reasons that fans may disparage this album is because it was a different sound than before. Why? John Paul Jones had a greater hand in writing these songs hence the prominent keyboard foundation of many of these songs. SOUTHBOUND SAUREZ is one of their greatest!

I think that this is album it's just a starting point for something new, or for better saying, it could have been. I'm sure they would have released something as classic as their fourth album in a couple of years...but things went tragically different. It's a very interesting record anyway, as I said, rich of new ideas and approaches that could have le(a)d to something epic.

I’ve never heard a LED Zeppelin album that I didn’t like. I hesitate to claim favorites because I honestly don’t have one. I might lean toward one type of song for a few days, then it might change. I think there might be 2 or 3 of their songs I honestly don’t enjoy as much as the others, but I don’t think I really dislike any of them. I can’t say this is true of any other band, I don’t know why other than the level of talent.

I can't under-emphasize what a big deal this was when it came out. Following their two year hiatus and complete silence (pre-internet) following Robert Plant's tragic loss of his son, they really weren't expected to come back. Let alone record new music. So it arrived in a brown paper bag with six different depictions of a drunk reading his Dear John letter at the Absinthe House bar in New Orleans in some kind of time warp, and In The Evening explodes on the record player. We were blown away. Yes, the entire record doesn't hold up like Physical Graffiti or Led Zep 4, but what the hell ever did?
