Always found it strange and quite sad that it took white mostly English musicians to bring Blues into the mainstream. All that amazing talent being widely ignored on their own doorstep, my god even Hendrix had reached some sort of glass ceiling in his career in the US before Chas Chandler took him London. Thankfully the blues artists are recognised all over the world now, it's such a shame that a lot of them weren't rewarded enough for their talents.

Abracadabra 303...Many of us for years absolutely agree with you that Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. But do you know how they got their name? Back in the ‘60’s when they were first started playing together and were just forming then band. There were a few haters who laughed at them telling them that they would crash and burn like a Led Zeppelin...like the Hindenburg. So, they embraced their criticism and put the Hindenburg on their álbum. In this song, at certain times, this is one of the few times that John Bonham plays in fours while Jimmy Page is playing in fives.

Play when the levee breaks at a party and everyone shuts up. That drum beat draws silence.
@pebblehilllane Жыл бұрын
One reason "When the Levee Breaks is so "bluesy" is because it's a cover of an old blues song recorded by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy in 1929. The lyrics reflect experiences during the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Forty-two years after the original Led Zeppelin covered the song and did a fantastic job. Zeppelin was smart enough to credit Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy as the songwriters and avoided what otherwise could have been another lawsuit for 'borrowing' the works of previous artists/musicians.

Don't forget that it sounds great in the 02 because it's been altered, as has most of, if not all of the sound. Plant even admitted at a press conference that they fixed up the end of his vocals in Kashmir because he didn't quite hit it. Don't believe everything you see/hear, however I do agree that it is my favourite Kashmir performance. It gives me chills. I recommend checking out bootleg versions in the 70s where they fuck up Kashmir and Plant is like ugh I don't think we got that one right (paraphrasing).
@wholelottastairway84 жыл бұрын
@Jack Bauer I felt the same way man, plus I've had several copies of TSRTS album wise and movie wise and it always changes. If you want, which judging by your love for Zepp, you can check out the bootleg recordings of all 3 individual nights. It might not be as good as an audio sound as you're used to, but the playing is still there.
@wholelottastairway84 жыл бұрын
@Jack Bauer Believe me lol. I have the CD version, the vinyl version, the DVD, and the re release. I used to listen to the CD version all the time and knew it quite well, and when I got the vinyl version, I was surprised that things like No Quarter were different. As for the footage, TSRTS has been rereleased several times with updated resolution, and audio restoration. I don't own the actual film (like real film, I own the movie obviously), but I bet that also has differences. Two major examples that comes to mind are Jimmy Page playing the violin bow solo and Stairway To Heaven. I know 100% that they cleaned up notes for re releases
@wholelottastairway84 жыл бұрын
@Jack Bauer Is that song "Fire" by any chance? Because there is a bootleg recording of that song on here. You can find a lot of unreleased stuff on here. Swan Song is also another instrumental classic that he didn't release on the new re releases lol (so many). If you haven't checked out unknown songs like that, I highly recommend. Things like Carrot Pod Pod. But no, I don't know how to contact Page directly. His social media is handled by other people. But there's a lot of stuff you can find on here

You don't recognize a version of this done by Puff Daddy called "come with me." From the Godzilla sound track? kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKnYoJePYshjr7c This is from the "Physical Graffiti" album. Which I think is their best album. It came out in 1975 and is a double album. But man, the first album is one classic hit after another. This is the last song on the first album. But you should really listen to "In my tome of dying" and "Trampled Underfoot." In my time of dying is an old blues song they reworked about a man taking his journey to the Pearly gates. In the live version of the song, which is excellent, Plants asks of Gabriel the angel, if he has ever had his horn blown. LOL. "Trampled Underfoot" is Zeppelins version of another old blues song by Robert Johnson called "Tarpin Blues." it's about comparing car parts to a woman. But this song is more funky than bluesy. The live version of this song is also very good. Both are from the 1975 concert at Earl' Court.

The crickets go nicely with the music. Engines in the background, not so much.

I was just informed they are cicadas! O:)
@TheSimonScowl4 жыл бұрын
@Queen_Of_Cups They're totally different animals as far as I can tell. The cicada kinda looks like a giant house fly, where locusts are basically flying grasshoppers. Cicadas make lots of noise, come around every 15 years or so, and 'molt' (leave little shells behind on trees). As for my handle, thanks. I am a prophet/mystic (and a Led Zeppelin fan)... so I often refer to people as 'Grasshopper' (lol). Oh, and the grasshopper is the symbol of my patrilineal bloodline from ancient times. I've been thinking there might be significance to that. Hmmm....

@Queen_Of_Cups I wouldn't say I'm 'into the Tarot' so much as the Tarot is 'into me' (Astrology too). But The Hermit is my essential card (I'm a 9). What do you mean by it being the 'Virgo card'? Which are you?
@TheSimonScowl4 жыл бұрын
@Queen_Of_Cups My understanding is that, to find your essential tarot, you basically just numerologize (is that even a word?) your birthdate. Whatever it reduces down to is your card. But I only learned that one thing. Didn't know about the zodiac mappings.

I remember years ago a hip hop band did this and they rapped to it rather than sang it and that blew me away too. It worked. That's how you know you have a great timeless song. I don't think this was in any movie to my knowledge. I love seeing how these songs are for people that never heard them before. For me it makes them new again. Thank you.

Yeah it’s hard to find all the right words to find especially when you are hearing the Mighty Zep and you are blown away. So much brilliance from vocals, lyrics, master musician and as you are discovering, music that evokes so much emotion/feeling. Not from this world, heavenly are words we often use to describe how amazed we feel also. Great reaction and happy you are getting to experience all the great music you are discovering.

I loved that Mark Ratner was so inept with the ladies that he couldn’t even get the right Led Zepplin album to listen to.

Hey there; since you really like Robert Plant's voice you should check out the band Greta Van Fleet. The leader singer has been compared to Robert Plant since they came out. You should checkout: " Highway Tune." BTW, another GREAT reaction!!
