The "Black Country" was what they called an area in England called "The Midlands" due to the heavy industrial presence of factories and coal mines. All those smokestacks covered the area in dirt, soot, etc. (hence "black country") Both Robert and Bonzo came from the Midlands and yes, Robert married a woman from the area (therefore she was a "black country woman" and by the same thought, Robert was a "black country man" lol). Yes, Robert did have an affair with his wife's sister. He dated Shirley first and truly loved her but she broke up with him because she wanted him to give up music and get a "real job". He then started dating and married, Shirley's sister, Maureen, with whom Robert would have three children. He still messed around with Shirley though (the affair also inspired the Zep song What Is And What Should Never Be) so the "I know your sister too" lyrics are legit. After Robert and Maureen divorced, Robert would go on to have a son with Shirley also so all of Robert's children are step-siblings as well as cousins.

The Black Country is a region in the UK not far from where Plant and Bonzo hailed from. And yes, the song references Plant's affair with his wife's sister.

"physical graffiti" is an excellent but inconsistent album. the first 4 songs on side four, of which "black country woman" is the 4th, are the best grouping of songs on the album. i NEVER play these songs out of sequence. like the first three and last three songs on "sgt pepper" they BELONG together. this is the last album zeppelin released of any real creativity or consequence. thanks for the video.
