My Led Zeppelin Playlist! • Led Zeppelin
In this Trampled Under Foot guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song by Led Zeppelin off of their Physical Graffiti album.
The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.
Most of Trampled Under Foot contains just two guitar riffs. These riffs can be challenging to play up to speed, but are a lot of fun to play once you get them under your fingers.
Throughout a lot of the second half of the song, you will hear Jimmy Page play a bunch of overdubbed guitar fills and a solo. Instead, of taking you through each one of those note-for-note, I will instead talk about the scale forms that he using and improvising with.
In live performances, Jimmy would just improvise for all of those solo sections. So knowing what scales he is using will allow you to do the same thing.
But for those killer riffs hear throughout the song, we will tackle those note-for-note.
Have fun learning this great song from Led Zeppelin! Carl...

Back at it with *the best band of all time* legit didn’t even know this was a guitar riff. Jimmy’s tone is so legendary it doesn’t even sound like a guitar 😆

when you pointed out how the nuanced wah-pedal effects might muddle one's understanding of notes/chords, i realized that the reverse reverb effect in this song potentially adds yet another layer of ambiguity - especially since it's played against the wah! definitely can make led zep tablature a challenge to transliterate at times. funny thing is that when the technique was stumbled upon in the late 60's there was no way to recreate it live at the time. we have pedals/plugins that can mimic it now obviously, but back in the day you had to go through an entire process in post to get that kind of effect. was time-consuming and involved reversing the tape, playing it backwards in a particular way, recording the delayed effect onto another track, etc... the outcome layered the original unreversed recording against the reversed reverb tail of said original recording so that they played as one entity. i still wonder how they went about performing songs with this effect live before proper equipment had been made available. anyways, i think the consensus is that page or someone working in their studio accidentally invented it, was a serendipitous accident that they went on to use in a lot of their discography. could be why the tablature for trampled under foot is very divided from what i can tell - i went through several, all with slightly different variations. that being said, i would never have felt confident approaching/learning this song without your demonstration, thank you so much for making this!
