As a black man who was turned on to LZ in '76 by dudes in my hood, I fell in love with them immediately because they have soul. They were grounded in the blues and they bled this ethos. Add the super musicianship and creativity, you have the GOAT rock band. They are the Beethoven, Bach and Mozart of Rock!

AGREED...I go to a show to hear the LIVE versions, not the album replayed note for note (only Skynyrd could get away w/ that) and Zep ALWAYS delivered on the improv/live front, even when they weren't "healthy/Jimmy? they still excited the heck outta me and the crowd.

I'd have to agree that Led Zeppelin were a much different concert experience than Yes or Rush. Led Zeppelin played their setlist pretty much the way that any band would on a given night. The thing is that if you saw Zeppelin in Seattle in say, 1975, and then went to a different Zeppelin show a few nights later in, say Vancouver, B.C. you'd hear essentially the same setlist but you wouldn't hear exactly the same "songs" in the sense that the solos wouldn't be identical, the precise timing and "groove' might be different and you might just hear an odd Blues cover thrown in for the fun of it. That wouldn't have happened at a Yes show or an Emerson, Lake and Palmer show or at a Rush show.(with the notable exception of "Working Man" in later years when they did change that one up a bit). When you when to see a Rush show or a Yes show you went to heat the music from the album done live rather than a "live version" of the song per se. When Rush played La Villa Strangiato or YYZ (zed .cause they're Canadian, eh) the audience isn't looking for a 20 minute Jimmy Page style improv'd solo from Alex. The audience knows exactly what these songs sound like, the 80,000+ in Rio were literally singing along with an instrumental (YYZ). There was very little room for such things at the Yes and Rush shows but that isn't what the crowd at a Led Zeppelin show was looking for. At a Zep how we wanted to see Bonzo go nuts on the drums and we wanted to hear Jimmy Page's rambling fretboard excursions. When Howe & Wakeman did their 'call & response' thig in Roundabout it was a carefully constructed piece of music and they could (and did) repeat it note-for-note nightly on tour.

Jimi Burleigh - Yeah that is really why, see my earlier comment on this page, these pioneering bands of that era were cutting new music and therefore were different I mean it is very difficult to compare Rush with Genesis, Pink Floyd with Led Zeppelin or Yes with the Beatles they vary so much from each other. And the most unique band Renaissance really does stand alone from that time.

I know what you mean about the band being on another level. I started with out on R&B, Rap, and dance music. Then Gangsta rap took over everything and it all became samples and the same novelty of studio gangsters that became copy pasted artists with little talent to back up the bling. Then I started listening to Oldies and Classic Rock stations before being really introduced to my first Led Zeppelin album, which was the untitled fourth album, and their 1976 feature film. Once I saw that concert at MSG it was like I unlocked a secret code or achievement. I have been a Led Zeppelin fan ever since. Only Iron Maiden Rainbow, and Megadeth, and Van Halen have come close to matching my passion for this band.

Zepp the best Wliburn! Timeless, classic, rock and roll. I'm 63 from Uk and I grew up with them in high school. I enjoy you 're young, fine opinion on these 70s bands which now makes sense as we kinda just accepted [and loved] them as part of the contemporary culture but their legacy is just totally astounding looking back. As a suggestion, you might want to also consider Wishbone Ash, in particular the Argus album. It was an absolute belter in 1972 and still is - I think it might have been voted best rock album on NME. You could start with Time Was or Sometime World however the whole album is sensational.

They are the GREATEST. You once blew my mind saying YES is better than LZ. YES is good....period. These guys .. Led Zeppelin........I SAW THEM IN 73.& 75' in NY. MSG.,....NASSAU COLLISEUM. No band comes within a thousand miles of these master's. They simply had talent superior to all other bands You want my favorite second band.......Allman Brothers Band. That's the band that created Southern Rock. Greg Allman has the greatest blues voice of ANY white man that ever sang the blues. They were known as a guitar band. Guitarists Duane Allman. Greatest slide guitar player of that era. Dickie Betts....even more technical than Duane. .Warren Haynes ...and recently drummer Butch Trucks nephew ...a prodigy guitar 🎸 master..Derrick Trucks. Two drummers Jomoe and Butchie. Berry Oakley was bass player. To me it's Zeppelin then Allman brothers band. But try listening to and hopefully reacting to ...to me...the Grand Master of all time...guitar God. Roy Buchanan. Roy turned down a chance to become the lead guitarist of the Rolling Stones. He's known as the World's Greatest Unknown guitarist also as The TeleMaster. Roy Buchanan used no gimmicks ..no whammy bar...no pedals ...nothing. Just his hands magical fingers. He was playing steel guitar horizontal .....at age five. Went on the road at 14 1/2 years old Country Blues Rock n Roll Jazz...Funk. ..Roy was idolized by Jimmi Hendrix Eric Clapton Jeff Beck. Jimmy Page. He was playing at 14 in 1953 with top country n western bands Chet Atkins Merle Haggard many others. He amazed the greats please try Roy Buchanan...he wrote When the Massiah comes Again

Robert Plant was arguably the greatest rock vocalist. Particularly pre 71 72 I guess. But even when he's not singing. 3 guys. Just 3 guys. Guitar, drums, and what ever instrument J.P.J. happens to be playing. And he plays them all. Well. The rhythm section of 3 guys is huge. The sound that these 3 guys create, is unmatched. I don't Care what you say. And they never play a song the same twice.

Good thinking, wonderful expression... but if you DON'T include Pink Floyd in your top 5, then you have a fallacy in the thought process. For me, those two are tops, with The Who, The Kinks, Rush, Supertramp, Yes, Dire Straits and Eurythmics in the next breath. But to ignore the Floyd is a sin... you could ignore the others from choice, but PF and LZ are the co-tops... and yes I'm subbed (x2), and yes I ALWAYS give you a like/ thumb up.
