"SpottieOttieDopaliscious" is a song by OutKast, a pioneering hip-hop duo from Atlanta, Georgia, consisting of André 3000 (André Benjamin) and Big Boi (Antwan Patton). The track is from their critically acclaimed album "Aquemini," released in 1998.
The song stands out for its jazzy instrumentation, featuring live horns and a laid-back groove. It's known for its unique storytelling style, where André 3000 and Big Boi vividly describe a night out in Atlanta. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the city's nightlife, capturing various characters and scenes with colorful detail.
The title "SpottieOttieDopaliscious" is a playful and nonsensical term coined by the group, adding to the song's eccentric charm. The track's structure is unconventional, with multiple instrumental breaks and a loose, improvisational feel.
"SpottieOttieDopaliscious" showcases OutKast's innovative approach to hip-hop, blending elements of jazz, funk, and Southern rap to create a sound that was both unique and influential. The song has become a fan favorite and is often regarded as one of the standout tracks in OutKast's discography.

@@thisisitreactions Oh yeah… just a glorious mix of soul, 70’s funk, reggae/ska, and at times even hard rock/metal, all mixed with such invention and creativity. I really think Outkast is a bit of a spiritual successor to Fishbone. 😄❤️ Songs I’d suggest: Lemon Meringue Unyielding Conditioning Sunless Saturday Everyday Sunshine

There's a reggae feel to this too. Always found it strange that aside from Marley that America never really seemed to get reggae.
@bossfan49
@bossfan49 25 күн бұрын
You're right...Reggae has always been like a niche or even a 'cult' genre in America. I feel like there's many layers to that... like- were there any other reggae or Jamaican artists who could compare to Bob Marley as far as songwriting, outspokenness on social, cultural, political, religious topics, stage presence? He was basically a rock star. Were there any other reggae artists on major labels that would promote them in America? It seemed Jamaica always had connections with UK politically, and west and south Africans culturally that would enable easier promotion of reggae music for the record labels. Also, there was so much incredible music being created by American black artists at the time, maybe it felt like there wasn't room for foreign black artists of a different genre of music. Idk.., there's probably a lot more to it...these are just a few things I've wondered about.

@bossfan49 The UK - Jamaica connection is the main thing for me. There were a lot of reggae artists who enjoyed commercial success in the UK and reggae was popular among white Brits too. Barley was the biggest star but some serious reggaeheads would say his stuff was too commercial. Some preferred the more rootsy stuff & dub reggae was popular too. There are many facets to it.

@@philipmccarthy6175 I remember watching a brief documentary on that a while back. It was called Under The Influence: 2 Tone Ska. It featured The Specials and other artists... UB40 of course..

@bossfan49 I was in the record industry during the 2-tone , ska boom of the late 70's & early 80's. There was a lot of social unrest at the time and bands like the Specials & The Beat struck a chord with their music , which was part good time , part social commentary .

@@philipmccarthy6175 Sure. None of that really caught on in the US except Elvis Costello's "Watching The Detectives" and maybe a couple 80s songs that were popular in the dance clubs. Although, whoever was listening to The Clash sure got a taste of ska. It may have transferred as an influence for the Third Wave in bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, No Doubt, Fishbone, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones... but that little ska surge only lasted a few years ...except of course for the Chili Peppers in whose sound it was deeply ingrained.
