I currently only have the Led Zeppelin II 2014 single LP that I bought last Summer. I think it sounds great personally. BarakaPDub did a needle drop comparison between it and a few other pressings through the years using the Ludwig 'Hot Mix' cut as the base. The Page/Davis 2014 sounded nearly identical to the Ludwig (to my ears anyway).

Hey Chris! I kinda came to the same general consensus after hearing the comparison for the first time. I think it’s down to the way it’s mastered and the EQ what is worked into the final cut on the lacquers. Pressings like MoFi will have a bit of a shine to them but because it’s a “digital record” doesn’t make it the Black Plague of all LZII pressings. Just to touch on Baraka’s comparison, I thought the Japanese pressing was not up to snuff and some people swear by Japanese pressings. It’s all down to the human ear after all. Cheers man.

@@nacho7742 Interesting! I wonder if some copies are inferior or had printing errors...looking at my 2014 against an early 70s pressing (?) I obtained and my 1977 pressing I thought was gone - other than variations in the overall colors between the 3, it appears to be fine and doesn't seem pixelated or blurry.

Great channel, I just subscribed. I completely agree that the single vinyl editions are better as they stay faithful to the original album. Leave the bonus stuff for the CD’s.

Thanks for the reviews. I have all the deluxe CDs too but I’d like to pick up a few of the single LPs and this convinced me.

So glad this video was able to help you in your decision! The single LP editions are great and you wont be disappointed. I was kinda on the fence on getting the deluxe vinyl edition of the first album since it has a great show from Paris 1969 but for having perfect replications of first pressings, I always stood with the single LPs.

Nice to see a positive review of these for a change! Everyone I've seen been trashing the sound! Especially, "Michael fremer" from "analog planet"! I really respect Michael, but I have three of them, "1,2, and IV" , and they don't sound anywhere near as bad as he says! They may not be nearly as good as the previous pressings, but at least they are decent, and cut at a higher resolution than the dismal 44.1k/16bit of a CD! Not saying that CD'S are dismal, you know what I mean?

Michel's system is "a Wilson Alexandria XLF speakers, darTZeel NHB 458 monoblocks and darTZeel preamp. I have a Ypsilon VPS-100 phono preamp and step-up transformers. And of course the Continuum Caliburn turntable, Castellon stand and Cobra tonearm. I also have a Kuzma 4Point mounted on the Caliburn and I own a Graham Phantom II tonearm. I use a Lyra Atlas, and Ortofon A90 and Anna cartridges" His sound experience is light years apart from the average listener.

In all fairness, you can buy earlier 70's re-pressings in VG+ condition for a similar price (or at times cheaper) as these digitally sourced reissues. Many of these earlier pressings sound astronomically better, even on a low end turntable.

In all honesty the original UK and US pressings obliterate the reissues for sound quality. For the asking price they are decent but they could have gone all out and given us all analog pressings from the master tapes mastered on the latest modern equipment.

Nice reissues overview with interesting personal opinions. I , aswell , stick to the single disc issues on vinyl and the extended versions on CD. It feels more real to me. (I’m quirky , I know) Well , now I got the urge to do the Zep-a-thon when the wife is away , the whole day tomorrow. Keep spinning , bro.

Thank you Roger! It just kinda makes sense in terms of sticking to the single LP editions and the deluxe CD editions. The only deluxe vinyl set I was tempted on getting was the first album since it has that phenomenal Olympia '69 recording. Keep the record spinning!

These remasters are great if you have nothing to compare then to. I bought I,II and III to testv the waters. I found them flat sounding and feel my original pressings sound better. But you can't beat the price compared to original pressings. Cheers!

That is indeed very true, I have some older copies of IV, Houses and Physical Grafitti and I haven't done my comparisons but these sound pretty sweet to my ears. And considering Page has been behind the mastering, not too many liberties are being taken in terms of the mastering.

Do u suggest i go the used route and avoid the 2014 reissues? i just got a turntable but it seems that getting a decent lp is difficult, ive even read reviews of brand new lps that would skip, not only zeppelin but other bands, it seems they are not able to make quality new vinyl anymore

Missed opportunity by Jimmy Page to get all these reissued with an all analogue chain. Unforgivable. These are fine, but the certainly ain't great. They sound digital. Not good enough.

You’ll LOVE the “Mothership” vinyl! #Epic However, we’re with you on the “How The West Was Won,” we’re not paying over $120 for that, it damn near insults our intelligence.

I definitely am taking your word on it! If they would've have included more in the vinyl package, like a book with photos (which do appear on the CD and Super Deluxe versions), I would've snagged it. But when it comes to box sets, its all about bang for the buck. Like the Floyd "Pulse" reissue: 4 LPs, heavyweight vinyl, mastered by Grundman, individual outer/inner sleeves, hardbound book, in a slipcase for $80. "How The West Was Won" just had the 4 LPs in sleeves that are different variations of the cover (in my opinion a short let down) in a box. It'll only be a matter of time to see a justifiable price drop.

As for" in through the outdoor ", originally hyped as 4 different covers.. hence the brown paper. I bought two at once, and got two different covers. Lucky, but, never searched out for the other two.

Too bad they never gave Robert Ludwig the chance to reissue that first mix. Can you imagine how many copies it would sell? But also maybe, just maybe those first 200k copies are unique given all of the variables in 1969...

Very cool collection, I think I’m going to mainly find these remasters, I just bought the vinyl plain version of Zeppelin 4 today, question.? On the labels of the LP’s themselves do they say made in Germany on yours.? My copy does. For the vinyl I just want the plain original albums issues. For the CD’s I’ll get the 2 disc deluxe versions. Original US copies are cool to find but very flimsy quality to the pressings themselves that I don’t really like. And finding original UK copies are almost impossible to find am to afford. I hope I’m making a good decision with just mainly getting a hold of these new reissues. Led Zeppelin and The Beatles are my top 2 favorite bands ever, so it’s really important that I’m making a good decision. Thank you and hope to hear your input and see a response soon :)

I didnt like these remasters very much. I and II was alright in places and III was pretty good, but IV was very flat and at that point I just stopped and got the Classic Records reissues instead which are great. Id rather have NM 70s issues over the 2014 ones to be honest. I also tried the Mothership box and thought it was even worse than the 2014 remasters for the most part.
@TheRecordSpinner
@TheRecordSpinner 6 жыл бұрын
Was it the first edition of Mothership you're referring to? The mastering for that comp has gotten a bad rep for being overly compressed. The newer remasters I feel sound a bit more natural compared to the early Mothership version. Once the studio albums were out, they actually put out Mothership again using the new 2014/15 remasters, which is an edition I've been waiting to get.

First I want to start out by saying I'm a huge Led Zeppepin fan. I saw then on thier first 4 U.S. Tours and those 4 concerts are all in my top ten concert experiences. Now to the remasters. The American versions that I picked up all have noisy vinyl. My origonal British Pressing blow the doors off the U.S. remasters both sonically and dynamically, and even at going on 50 years old, are still quiter. IF I buy any more of the remasted series, I'll buy the British versions. Thanks for posting

Hi Jimmy We need Music Jimmy not books . . Books are Ok once our Thirst for Led Zepplin is completed. Your remasters were a poor job in quality and the fact none of those albums were put on HD Blue-Ray disc for the Millions who do not have Vinyl was a huge let down for Millions of fans. The lost of Analogue was another huge mistake and the lack of live material and companion material was poor & limited, thus making the Box sets a over repeated kill of nothing more to offer then the CD versions . . Kind Regards
