Nothing wrong with being ignorant... it's staying ignorant that is the problem. Good job realizing that Zeppelin ain't just some jam band from back in the day. Their influence is still being felt today, 52 years later. They are the GOAT for a reason. In My Time of Dying, it's an old gospel tune that they redid and it smokes!

Led Zeppelin also took/sampled a lot of their music from 1930s Mississippi blues artists. Lots of Zeppelin's music was written by black artists like, Robert Johnson, in the 20s and 30s. Here's the original of when the levee breaks for reference: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2emkGitrdCod7M

"When the Levee Breaks" is a country blues song written and first recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. The lyrics reflect experiences during the upheaval caused by the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Zep were the best cover band in the world . They took old blues tunes and owned them . A kind of "sampling" in its day .You need to watch them live . In my time of dying live would be a good start . If you're a player wear a diaper cause you're gonna shit yourself !

Led Zeppelin is known as a rock band, but they were VERY experimental. They have tracks that seem like rock, blues, folk music, and some with a heavy beat. When the Levee Breaks is a cover of a pretty classic song. The was recorded in a mansion with a 3 story tall spiraling staircase, they placed the drums at the bottom to get that slight echo with the drums. Stairway to Heaven was long considered one of the greatest rock n roll songs of all time. It's a long trip though, I'd save it till your a few songs deep into their catalog. I'd bet you've heard "Immigrant Song" before, it's been used in movies and such. My personal fav is "Ramble On"

The band came together because of a jam - the first time those four guys played together (after much searching by Page and Jones), they started a simple blues jam to see if they got along and grooved for over half an hour before realizing it. They all knew instantly they had something unique. *edit* The album version of their songs was just the starting place for what they did live...

Respect bro, glad you tried them again. Music is all influenced from somewhere, not only did they influence hip hop, stadium rock bands of the 80s etc but also they themselves embraced the blues and rock and roll and brought it straight to the kids. Legendary..

For me, Page's guitar kicking in and Plants shrieking rap like vocals are the coolest sounds I've heard in rock history. Awesome, awesome song.

Having the same age as you (1978) Led Zep was my big thing growing up... In high school i was the only one listening to this... then I graduated and a couple yrs later Eminem came out... that's what fully push me to investigate hip-hop/rap .... best of both worlds... ad some heavy metal and its even better

Please at some point do "Since I've Been Loving You" Studio version off of Led Zep III. In my opinion, their finest song.....even better if you did it during a peaceful night drive.
