I bought a hot plate from the dollar store just for this mold. I run my pot on 8 and they come out full pours. Takes forever to get a decent amount of the 4 buck lol.

I had the same problem. I found that I have to pour the lead directly into the hole as oppossed to using a continuous stream and letting each fill run to the next. Good, quick pour per hole. I start and stopthe stream 6 times. that fixed me right up.

Very nice Good to see you again on BRO I remember that Richard Lee wrote in his book to smoke a new mould with a candle flame, but I can't say since I have not done it myself. The spray is obviously working great for the purpose. Thanks for another informative video. Looking forward to many more ❤

I used to cast pewter for a company using centrifugal molds .Some times we had to increase the temperature of the alloy .The mold had to be well seasoned for a clean pull .the silicone rubber molds took a beating .Sometimes speed and pressure plate had to be adjusted and tiny pin holes in the mold to let teg air out had to be made

Good to see you back to making buckshot again!!! I’ve got to make some #4’s for myself…honestly, I’ve got to make bunches of them all. I’m just about out of everything except 00. Thanks

Thanks Wade, got this mold last year. I cast about 25 lbs out of it in get some misshapen ones now and again as i cut them and sort my avg is about a 8-9 oz of rejects an that small of run
@vdog47999 ай бұрын
25 lbs takes a loooooooong time to make! I made up a bunch also. My back and neck were killing me from being at the tabke for so long even with breaks. I sure like the mold though. I clip them while watching tv. Then tumble. Lots of work but worth it later👍

I think the lee pot mold shelf is correct. The short part on mine has a radius so i can adjust alignment. That part hits the side of the mold to get it centered, and i rest the mold on the bottom shelf. Thoughts?

Wade, I am not trying to steal your thunder or get any of your spotlight. But one of the things that people might be running into is contamination of their lead wheel weights such as those that contain zinc. Just thought I would share as I know you already know this.
@BubbaRountreeOutdoors9 ай бұрын
You know, I found a couple of lead/zinc mixed wheel weights in the last little batch that I picked up from the tire store. And you're rt! They could be melting those things in their alloy. Thanks brother!

Why wouldn't someone turn up their pot all the way all the time?
@raymondbuie52929 ай бұрын
Where to begin with this question? First of all the hotter the lead the quicker the oxidation of the metal on top of the melt. In that dross , it’s called, is good amounts of your tin and antimony that hardens up your lead. So you’re depleting exactly what you want to keep in the alloy quicker. Second, when mold gets too hot you will frost everything that comes out of it , not nice shiny pellets, also when alloy is extremely hot you are pouring a water consistency with very thin sprue on top, like paper thin, can leave pellets not completely formed especially on top as it cools and shrinks. Really hot lead also takes quite a bit longer to solidify before you can cut the sprue to dump the mold. So there is magic spot in temperature where everything is in sync. This can be different with many molds. Size of cavities, size of mold block, material mold is made of. Also exactly as Wade said, your natural environmental conditions, cold day, hot day, humidity and such can play a big part in how lead and molds work on any given day. I hope this helps you see why you wouldn’t just max out lead pot.
