Mr. Murphy, I have a number of MEC Loaders on my shotgun bench, yet I find myself turning to the Lee Loadall quite often. It was my first loader and I will never remove them from my bench, so simple they are.

You can try to do 1mm shorter last station, it will produce little bit better crimp. To be honest, that LEE needs small update. I wil try made video how to fix it ;) Bad thing is that updated parts I got from Ukraine ... now it is not possible, but maybe some 3D print?

I just saw another video comparing the MEC 600 Jr. to the Load All II -- looks to me like all I'd get for the extra $500 (plus more for charge bars and bushings if I want a load the ones with the press don't support) is the ability to easily change powder and shot bottles by inverting the top section. It looks to me like I can do the same with this Load All II by unclipping the lever from the top unit, lifting it off the press column, and then holding the lid on the powder while I empty the shot or vice versa. Am I correct in seeing it this way? Looks like it'll take two minutes, as opposed to one for the MEC; the only real disadvantage for this much less costly option is I can't keep preloaded bottles on hand with different shot and powders (which is, IMO, of very limited utility if I shoot the same load most of the time, and could be overcome by buying a spare top unit, available from Lee). Am I understanding this correctly?

I agree with everything you said here. Only holding the lid over one while you empty the other is tougher than you would think. I actually use my hand but do exactly as you describe.

You need a recipe from a loading manual. I have a video on loads for this machine where I share a spreadsheet with different bushings for different levels of powder. You still have to have a verified load from a manual, bit then that spreadsheet will let you know what bushings to use to get to the load you need.

Advantages manual from ballistic products incorporated (bpi). More data than any shotshell manual I have seen.

Depends on what powder, what hull, and what wad. You would need to consult a good reloading manual.

The first 2 stations would work. The center station would work except for the little fingers that help the wad enter the used hull, you would have to drill a new hole in the center column to move those further down. The final 2 stations (pre-crimp and crimp) would not work. The shell would be too short for the end to reach all the way to the crimping star.

No. 12, 16, and 20 gauge only. Each of those requires a conversion kit and those are the only three kits they make.
