Thank you for posting. It’s hard to find any data on the Lee key drive slugs. I have the 1oz slug molds. Remember when #8 birdshot was .25 cents a round?

The least I can remember paying for shotgun shells was $1.99 a box. These would be the promo shells put on sale in August before dive season. Yeah, the good ole days for sure.

Great video! Very useful for me because I'm also reloading 7/8 oz Lee slugs. Your roll crimp mouth looks awfully close to the nose of your slug. Any chance of a chain fire reaction in the mag tube?
@jonathanbeck666319 күн бұрын
@GeneLucas2941 I'm pretty dang new to reloading, so I'm not sure what difference the roll crimp being close to the slug makes. As far as I know, there isn't any chance of a chain fire reaction in the mag tube because of how blunt the nose of a slug is.

Great video. Would love to see the process you use when putting the rounds together. I’m just getting into shotshell reloading and I personally find the birdshot to slug conversion to be the best bang for your buck. Only a few guys sharing information on the subject, thank you for publishing your data. One question, did you happen to notice at what distance your wads were releasing from the slugs?
@jonathanbeck66633 жыл бұрын
It seemed like the wads would release about 20 yards down range. And I would love to make a video about putting the shells together but KZbin would take the video down and give the channel a strike
@ajcj19703 жыл бұрын
There at least three KZbinrs that have videos showing how to make a similar round (not to mention numerous videos on how to make wax slugs and old fashion "cut" slugs). The four that I find most interesting are 20grim12, Mountian Storm and Steve McSchneive and yours. I've been researching this for awhile now. If you search "slug from birdshot" they will come up. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question and I hope you reconsider making that video, I sure would like to see that.

Round 2 video would be nice. Respectfully, you rushed both of those shot groups. Take your time and it also appeared that 1 of those tumble based on the keyhole shaped hole. Hard to say what happened though without low speed film. Good stuff man,

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try to make a part 2 sometime this summer. It's been a crazy year so I haven't been able to get around to it.

Federal factory wad and Lee 7/8oz. drive key slug will not push through my Mossberg slug barrel. Concerned about over pressure I ordered and used CB windjammer and lighting wads with 7/8oz. slug. CB wjmr and lgtng wads with 7/8 oz. slug slid through my Msbrg barrel with slight resistance. Watch Fortune Cookie 45’s video on overpressure and wads. Might be why your wads are so torn up.

The lee 7/8 oz mold are available again I got one on AMZN. I would love to see more videos from you on the 7/8 slug. If using soft lead with the slug do you think it can be used in a 20 ga also? I thought that was how I first saw this used but I may be wrong? on a moss mave 88 20 ga it is all smooth bore no choke ? I am thinking that as long as you are using soft led and a bird shot load it should work but I would like to hear it from someone who knows? I know a lot about lead alloy and hand gun and casting but am a total newb on Shot gun reloading.
@jonathanbeck6663 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. I would not try them in a 20 gauge shotgun even with soft lead. The best, and safe bet would be to buy a 20 gauge slug mold. I am definitely not an expert but it is never safe to mix caliber sizes. Good luck out there.
@artstudio9673 Жыл бұрын
@@jonathanbeck6663 that is what I was thinking. Hoping to find someone who knew if it was safe since it sounds a little sketchy. Thank you. I guess I could try a hot pot and pure lead to see what dia I get but I think it will still be too big. Not sure they make a 20 ga sizing die?
@jonathanbeck6663 Жыл бұрын
@@artstudio9673 Take a look on ebay. I was able to find a few different molds for 20 gauge. They are around $90. They also have the large pellet shaped slugs which from what I've seen are a more stable projectile.
