This is my favorite Lee Aaron. That chorus vocal tone is wicked heavy.

Lee Aaron will always be my Metal Queen. This is a fantastic song. I love her first 6 albums through and through. Lee Aaron looked ridiculously hot (I know, she's still hot), but for a young girl of only 23 years at the time of this video her big rough edged voice is amazing, it's just pure heart piercing and wall shattering power!!!

I saw Lee Aaron on stage live at the Spectrum in Montreal. She was not only breathtakingly beautiful but her voice blew me away at the time. Very memorable. My first concert was Dio at the Forum, followed by the Scorpions - Love at First Sting. 80s were an awesome time for music. I think we're finally getting some comparable stuff now with bands like Within Temptation, Metric, Paramore, Airborne Toxic Event, etc...

@simplegr33n420 - there is no way I know of that can teach someone that Dio/Bryan Adams type rasp. Most people that do that, can just do it and can't really tell you how they do it. Anantomically whats going on is a partial closing of the vocal cords. A sort of heavy vocal fry but not quite exactly. Its hard to explain. There is a way to get distortion in the voice but ti doesn't sound exactly the same. I won't out up a video on this because of the legal problems if someone hurts themselves.
@TotalSinging14 жыл бұрын
I knew of Lee as far back as '84. There was a free music video channel here in NYC called U68 and they played every metal/hard rock video they could get their hands on when they came on the air in Summer of '84 - including this one and "Metal Queen".

she does one-off shows at the festivals in Europe. She sticks mainly to her later period of music that was more AOR - more commercial. She's been doing a lot of Jazz recordings in recent years and given up the gritty Rock vocal stuff. She's still smoking hot though!
@helmutbiehl24546 жыл бұрын
Kevin, you are 666% right. She really was the female version of Ronnie James Dio. Her voice in this song is incedibly passionate. Doro did not have that volume.

@RocktheStageNYC Was mainly her management and record companys fault. A lot of record companies was lining up to sign her for the US market (Atlantic, Chrysalis and EMI to name a few) but her Canadian record label boss said no as he wanted to open an US part of his label. But that never happened!

Not saying Doro isn't great too but in my opinion Lee was better - BEFORE she went too commercial on her 3rd album. Doro has stayed more true to her metal roots but isn't as big a metal screamer as Lee was.

@TotalSinging5 жыл бұрын
Yes. She just couldn't get it together with a band here in the states. When she did they took all the "power" out of her voice and tried to make her a pop star like Taylor Dane. It didn't work.
@TotalSinging11 жыл бұрын
Watch this and you'll see why I said that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3WopWN_qNuAmNE I'm also talking about the time period of the early 80's - the other female singers you are probably thinking of (like Doro Pesch) came later on after Lee. She is the original female metal screamer of the 80's.

@AtariMaxiToriyama - Her management & label turned her away from her core hard rock sound and tried to make her into a pop sex symbol type of artist. Even she admits her music got away from her core sound and went too "pop" to try to sell more records. What bands want to do musically and what they are pressured to do by the people who guide their careers are two different things. "Cherry Pie" haunted Jani Lane until his death - a type song he was pressured into writing.

Great song, admittedly not my favorite from her, but still great. I do wonder--if she had continued to try to sing many songs like this after this album and then even on into the 90's, what effect this would have had upon her voice? I'm not a vocalist but I would think singing a song like this (especially the last chorus) must have put an incredible strain on her vocal chords.
@TotalSinging5 жыл бұрын
No. That rasp was natural to her voice. She can still do it today, she just doesn't do it much
@TotalSinging13 жыл бұрын
@KRF1984 - Yeah poor Lee Aaron suffered from being Canadian. She made bad choices in band members and song material. I was saying even back then she needed to hook up with a great group of hot, young American musicians and get on some US tours. Didn't happen. And then she went too commercial and that was it.

@RocktheStageNYC Could you explain that, then? Cherry Pie is catchy and it still had that lame echo effect sound with a nice guitar solo. So people liked it. He still made other songs. What is the problem with that?

@RocktheStageNYC What's with "went too commercial" stuff? You like what you like. If you like power metal, then that's what you do. If you like more technical, melodic music, you do that. So why do these people "go commercial"? Is that what they LIKE? Because commercial music is like -- maybe a shot of Red Bull, but the REAL music is like steak and potatoes! Did she go commercial because SHE wanted to and liked the style, or because it was the easiest way to make money?
@Jermusicislife847 жыл бұрын

Nice pop-metal singer, and cute too (about 30 years ago in her Penthouse centerfold!) but certainly NOT the female version of Dio. I can think of at least five female singers that are much closer to Dio than Lee Aaron. She is trying to be Pat Benetar in my opinion.
@dennis83095 жыл бұрын
You're a moron...she wasn't in penthouse, and she's still mega hot at 56. Nobody had ever compared her to Dio but you. She has metal pipes like no other female, and where you pulled a Pat Benitar comparison is beyond me...
