For anyone who’s interested in getting a deeper understanding of what you're listening to… I’ve pulled together a mini-study of the set - demystifying the ‘art of DJing’ and showing that it isn’t just pushing buttons! :) Mood & Energy The overall mood of the set was chilled and melodic in nature, with a low/mid-level energy. The lower intensity storytelling here aligns very well with the energy of the location - overlooking the ocean (almost on top of the ocean!) The environment is mirrored by the lower intensity and long melodic motifs which are driven by the mid and high frequencies. The objective was likely to get the crowd to feel the emotion in the music and sway to the beat (as opposed to ‘fist-pump’ the air!) Overall the BPM of the set (which is the biggest driver of energy) was largely maintained - starting at 123, moving up to 123.25 and then slowly brought down to 122.25 by the close. The mood was chill - both melancholy as well as a communicating a spiritual vibe, both of which were also maintained throughout - providing unity to the set. While the tempo, intensity and mood provided the glue to hold the set together there was some movement provided by changes to the motif length of the tracks. In terms of key observations and emphasising what was done very well: Marrying Energy with the Environment Lee does a very good job of aligning the energy of the music with the energy of the location. The track selection was chosen to make the crowd ‘feel’ an emotion; using lots of longer motif melodies driven by the highs and mid frequencies. For example, for the first track @ 02:07 you can start to count the 32 beats that form the loop before it repeats again (hence a 32-beat motif). The second track likewise loops every 32 beats as does the third. These longer motif melodies are naturally very emotive and provide a chill vibe to the set. While Lee does move to an 8-beat motif @ 30:00 and even a 4-beat loop @ 37:00 (as a means of creating contrast to the melodies) from 45:00 onwards he returns to the longer-motif melodic selection. To note - if Lee were to play all 16 or 32-beat melodies for the entire duration of the set, if would start to become ‘stale’ as every track would sound the same. Even though creating a chilled melodic theme is perfect for the location, there needs to be moments where you take people out of their heads and put them into their bodies with some shorter motif rhythms (8 and 4-beat motifs) In addition, the slower and more subtle mixing is appropriate for the chilled vibe of the set. A faster mix-through (i.e - bringing in one track and exiting the current track) and/or the use of filters to pull away the energy / re-introduce energy would not have been appropriate - since it would be more jarring to the ear and would take people out of the melodic trance which Lee is communicating. Finally - as noted above, the use of mid and high frequencies driving the tracks give the sound a more chilled vibe. While there are sections of the set where the tracks are driven more by the lows - for example - @5:00, @30:00 and @37:45, these serve as contrast to keep the sound interesting / provide contrast. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you're interested in reading commentary on other Cercle DJ sets; I've included a list of the Cercle video links with my commentary at the top: Martinez Brothers at CÉ LA VI Marina Bay Sands: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGqvqIBvjcZpopo&lc=Ugw8FjXRTwNr_igsxEh4AaABAg Blond:ish in Sint Maarten: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5WXenShiJJkY9k&lc=UgyYS7pegfiMkfHUmKx4AaABAg Above & Beyond in Guatape: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3bdhmR-q6eibLs&lc=UgzwLbb8bwfCee9x72N4AaABAg Hernán Cattáneo at Cercle Festival: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5LWoppqiLqfaLM&lc=Ugz6nHNUJYRxJcvLxhh4AaABAg Black Coffee at Salle Wagram: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXjUmJKQr7mberc&lc=UgxQT39JEwTd-j7E1Ax4AaABAg More to come soon!

It's a great set, but all the 'lower intensity storytelling' and 'marrying energy with environment' is nonsense... All he's doing is playing some records. The people listening don't care what the precise BPM is, or even notice 8/4 beat loops, or 32 beat loops. He's blending one track into another, not painting the Sistene Chapel

How good is Lee, totally in the zone on the decks, at home, completely in the moment. Absolute banging set, would of been an amazing experience up close. Loving his theatrics around 50:00 for that drop. Claiming it like an absolute legend.
