After seating the bullet, if you turn the die upside down over the freshly formed cartridge, you then hit it with the mallet a couple of times it will crimp the bullet...which you will definitely want for a lever action rifle. Nice video. I love my Lee loaders even though I have and use regular presses.

@@thebruffy1077 if the recoil of the rifle caused the bullet to go into the case, reducing the overall length, you could have a very serious problem with pressure to the point the shooter and firearm could be in danger.

@@MarcosCaminante Thanks, so only for bolt action rifles then? You'd need at least the Lee hand press for lever and pump action rifles? Would be interesting to test uncrimped bullets in a tightly packed tube magazine. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJatnoKuftCfesU

After you drive out the primer, while you have the case in one hand and the punch in the other, run the tip of the punch around in the bottom of the primer pocket a few turns to clean the primer residue out of the primer pocket. Then tap the case on the table a couple of raps to get the crud out. This will allow the new primer to fully seat in the pocket. Consistancy is the mother of accuracy.

Correct. And only cases fired in the gun you're going to shoot the reloads in should be used or they may not chamber. I found that out in 1968 when I reloaded 100 Match cases which had been fired in M14's to use in my Model 70 Winchester. No way would they chamber!

I happened upon one of these at a antique shop and bought it. I had never seen one before and since I have reloaded bullets before with a press I decide to buy it ($25). I took it home and reloaded 3 bullets (30/06 Springfield) they came out perfect. I would love to find one of these in 350 Remington Magnum and I am willing to pay a premium price for it.

I like to rub a little case lube on the necks of the cases. Or wipe the cases with an oily rag before I load them. It really isnt necessary but it does make driving the cases into and out of the die easier.

"Any chance" covers a lot of ground. I suppose it is possible, but I have never heard of it in almost 50 years of Lee Loader use, multiple calibers and gauges. Wear safety glasses anyway. Follow the instructions.
@williamwallace9826
@williamwallace9826 4 жыл бұрын
At 6:15, it looks like you dumped in a heaping scoop of powder. You need to read and understand the instructions before trying to show other people how to do something. Lee's instructions for those powder scoops call for using something like a business card or an old credit card to scrape off the top of the scoop absolutely level. That's the only way to get consistent loads using a scoop.
@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380
@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 4 жыл бұрын
I read over the instruction again on the lee instruction book and no where does it say use a business card to level out the scoop. It does say to tap the scoop side to side and not up and down to help level the powder so that is what I did. I do like your idea though and I will try it next time I load some ammo using the loader. Thank you for your feedback
@wdtaut5650
@wdtaut5650 3 жыл бұрын
NO! The instructions are clear. "Give the measure a slight shake sideways to level it off." No tapping, no scraping. A little practice and you will get good results with one "slight shake".
@gregritchie9375
@gregritchie9375 3 жыл бұрын
I believe you will find both instructions with the Lee Classic Loader. The old sets sat to tap side to side. The new sets say to use a card.

No case lub is needed...Lee Loader only sizes the case neck. Don’t forget to crimp the case mouth after seating the bullet. 2.550” OAL is MINIMUM, not max OAL. Dude? Please get a mentor to prevent injuring yourself. Clearly you don’t understand what your doing.
@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380
@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 2 жыл бұрын
You are not correct it clearly states in the loading sheet that comes with the Lee Loader an OAL of 2.550. Also Here is the definition from the latest Speer Reloading Manual, and I quote "This OAL dimension shows the industry standard (SAAMI spec.) for a particular cartridge. Those published loads have been tested to be safe at that specific length, and they will always fit in your magazine" By the way in case, you do not know what OAL stands for it "OVERALL LENGTH" the key word in this is the "OVERALL" You can load a cartridge past the OAL and in most cases it will not fit in your magazine, the pressure is going to be different, the bullet may fall out, your round will not fly accurate, and a whole lot of other things are going to happen to keep your round from going boom if you load past the OAL. First, this is not the minimum length as you stated that is just incorrect. Second, I use lube on the neck to make the loading process easier, true it only neck sizes, but the lube makes the process easier. Third the cartridge you loaded can only be used in the firearm that the brass was originally fired in. Forth, I have been reloading cartridges for over 40 years now, so I actually do know what I am doing. You only need to crimp the case mouth if you are using a lever gun with a tubular magazine not a box magazine. I have both types and a single shot as well. You also have to watch how much crimp you place on the bullet as the tighter you crimp the bullet the higher the pressure increases, and it can also affect the bullets coefficient. You are the one that has no idea what you are talking about. Please refrain from talking about things that your knowledge is clearly lacking at this time. Do some research or it will be you that injures yourself from poorly loaded ammo.
