Served as a Marine in the Pacific during World War II. Wounded by a snipers rifle catching, as he loved to say, "in my ass, looking the wrong way." Lee Marvin fought in the Pacific during world war 2. He was only 17 when he joined. He assaulted over 20 plus beaches the last one was at the Battle of Saipan where most of his platoon were killed. He got shot in the rear which severely damaged his sciatic nerve. He received numerus medals including a Navy medal with a v. You can read more if you look him up. Finally he was injured so bad in battle he was finally sent him in 1945 before the war was over. He was a scout sniper with the 4th Marine division.

"Paint Your Wagon"'s director Josh Logan said later that Lee Marvin's behavior on the set -- fueled by heavy drinking -- made this film the most trying of his career. "Not since Attila the Hun swept out of Asia, bringing 500 years of total darkness, has there been a man like Lee Marvin."

Above all, Thanks for YOUR Service. All too often it is overlooked and most frequently by those who deliberately turned away allowing others to stand in their place. Your time is irreplaceable and highly appreciated. This nation wants and needs you to heal - the exterior of your wounds or injuries are the scars others can see - we, you and I, understand and feel that which is internal, but they too, can be overcome making you whole once again. Semper Fi means more than Always Faithful - it also means we stand as brother. RAH!
